View Full Version : Decided to list my Sealed Zelda & Contra Force on eBay

Decided to edit the original thread. Thanks a lot guys (and gals) for all your input on this, I have done a LOT of thinking on it, and 2 things have made me come to this decision.
1. Another sealed Zelda just sold for 405.00
2. There's a Playchoice up for auction, and I have been SERIOUSLY DYING for one and can never afford it when it comes up for sale.
So here they are!
CLICK HERE FOR SEALED LEGEND OF ZELDA (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=62053&item=8103672973)
CLICK HERE FOR SEALED CONTRA FORCE (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=62053&item=8103674722)
Feel free to bid if you want! I really hope these do well...if so then I will be the happiest man on the block with his shiny new playchoice. :D
ORIGINAL POST.....
Ok, I have an original very mint Legend Of Zelda for NES, sealed. I paid 20.00 for it a few months ago at a Western Auto. I never considered selling it until I seen this...

Now I'm considering selling mine. I kinda would like to hold onto it, but I think now is the perfect time and the perfect market to sell it. What does everyone else think?
Also, I picked up a sealed Contra Force for 20.00 also. I couldn't find one of those that had ended on eBay anytime recently...anyone have any idea what this would sell for?
And, theres still a Bartman Vs. Radioactive Man up there sealed for 20.00. Should I go back and get that for resale also? I couldn't find one of those either.
So any help is greatly appreciated. I can normally judge these type of things myself but this time I'm having some problems

If it were me I wouldnt sell them, and I would go back and get Bart vs. Radioactive Man and keep it for myself as well. The way I would look at it is that you were extremely fortunate to find a sealed gold copy basically for free considering what it's worth so it isnt like it cost you a lot of money that you now need to recoup. But I should also say that Legend of Zelda is one of my all time favorite games so there is some sentimentality coming into play there. If you don't like the game so much, then you could sell it and use the money to buy other games. That's my 2 cents.

Well, I've already got a loose mint copy. Zelda isn't one of my favorite games, but I know a lot of good, rare things I want that I could get with 400.00. That's why I'm considering it.

Contra Force would likely command a premium. I know we've seen on in this forum before but I don't know if it's a $400 one. I could've sworn it hit around a $100-$150, but that could have been the first game in the series. I would think the Simpsons game wouldn't go for much since they are so common and not highly sought after, but knowing E-bay....well, who knows.

What is this "Western Auto" place, anyways? Sounds like an auto parts store like kragen or napa...

If I were you I would keep them....Must have the precious :P Honestly. When do you ever think you will come across another sealed copy of Zelda or Contra force....... :o This should be one of your greatest finds ever !
Dont trade it away or sell it. That would only make the memories of such a great find seem kind of cheap.
I would understand if you had a financial problem however. But those are different circumstances ;)

If I were you, I would sell them.
I can certainly understand the desire to keep boxed games, but keeping sealed ones just baffles me. Then again, I collect games to play and enjoy, not to collect dust and stare at.

Unless you're a "sealed" NES collector, there's no real reason to keep it.
Similarly, there's also no reason to believe that you will get that much money for it, just because someone else did. I've seen sealed copies sell for under $200 as well as over $200.
Right bidder at the right time, who's dead set on owing that particular game, and someone who gets caught up in the heat of the moment, will drive the price up. No guarantee on that exact scenario providing you with the same cash.
My thoughts are - sell it. The "fad" of collecting sealed games for "future investment potential" is just that - a fad. It will eventually pass, and the price will go down. Take the money and run now, versus speculating on the future value.
However, as I said before, if it holds a sentimental value or sealed games are your bag, then keep it.
By the bye, the Contra Force should net you a cool hunge ($100) for sure.
Good luck,
Steve

Like I said before, I say you sell it.
Besides value, you really have no use for it. It's not like Zelda means alot to you.

I agree with sisko 100 percent. :D
BTW, can anyone make out what the price of the game in that EBay auction was at Target? I'd sure like to know how much that was back in the day, since my parents bought me my copy for my birthday in 1988. :)

I would sell it but not quite yet. I would wait until the last week of November or the first week of December and get people while they're spending money on Christmas. People (even collectors) tend to have other things to spend their money on in the summer. Sure there are the guys who pay the bucks to have this now (not naming any names) but I think there would be a larger base of people later in the year.
As for long term (next 2 years anyways). I think this will go up in value and collecting sealed games is more than a fad. As with every type of collectible, the closer an item is to new, the more it is worth. There would have to be a drop in interest in the hobby as a whole for this to go down in the near future. IMHO there is a lot more insanity to come and in higher degrees. So if you don't need the money now then I would hold on to it.

I say sell it! I would say either wait till prices are higher, or offer it to the 2nd and 3rd high bidder.

Orrimarrko is dead on. I would sell the zelda in a heartbeat. If you could get at least $200 or so, you could buy many more games than just one sealed one. I personally would keep the Contra Force. That has a better chance of going up in price IMO.

All this talk about little old me... I'm blushing. Cmos, if you want to pm me we can talk about contra force. I'm not really sure how this board works yet, but I'll keep an eye out. PS I recognize you from gamefaqs... and congrats on the finds. $40 is a hell of a sweet deal. The simpsons game is quite common though, and really not worth the trip if you're thinking resale. If it's for your collection that's different of course.

When you bid on anything on ebay, anybody can find out.
If I was you I would wait until about Feb or March next year to sell them. You can probably get a lot for them then. By that time all the online stores have sold out of their games from christmas and have not listed any more, and so the prices are higher (since all the lower priced ones went out first). People think that the games are worth more.

I don't think he means OUTSIDE of ebay. I think he just means eBay.
Buying "off of" ebay and buying on eBay actually mean the same thing.
Go figure.

unless you want to get a sealed set of NES or really love zelda, then i would sell the game and, hopefully you will get a shit load of money and possibly invest it in a part of your collection that you really care about, or get into something new, since you might get enough money to get a nice start on a system that you have nothing for.

frugal i guess thats me...
although i do tend to over pay for things sometimes.... like the 20 bucks i just dropped for dragon warrior game that had all the original paperwork with it but no box... i already have 2 of these games but i sold my manual :/... but now i have maps!!! and explorers guide!!! woo hoo!!!!!!!!!! oh and of course the poster, instructions and that stupid yellow piece of papar that came with it...

Well, I hope you get a good price on that sealed Zelda.
Just for the record, though, that's the second run. It has the new style Nintendo Seal of Quality on the front. I had the original run, that had the old style of seal on it. Also, there was a change made in the game itself, on the save/quit/continue screen -- the second run has a warning to hold the reset button in when turning the power off. (I've heard there was a couple of bugs in the first run also, as far as gameplay goes.) One bug I can confirm is that the battery could suddenly die without warning -- I sent my original first run game back to Nintendo and got a second run game in replacement.
And it seems that the second run of the Zelda game is the most common out there. The third run was the Players Choice version with the non-gold cart. (There may have been a forth run, but so far I can only confirm three).
Now, I'd love to see what a sealed FIRST run Zelda game would go for. :D

Sealed first run Zelda ended the other week at 379.54 which was won by Bronty-2
BUT
Yesterday a sealed second run Zelda with the oval seal ended at 405.00
Seems to me that people just don't care as long as the cart's gold and it's sealed! This is what urged me to sell it, because the price going looks to be really really good right now.

Yeah, I supose only die hard collectors would care about first run and the second run. Nice prices on both of those, though.
Contra Force? Never seen that one sealed. I love Contra to death, but I really did'nt like that game. I'm half tempted to buy it just so I can burn it. LOL

When common carts start getting insane then you can worry. If I had those two you damn well know I would sell em. For that kind of money I can get alot of games and items. I have only had one sealed game and traded that away with a couple of commons for Castevania: Harmony of Dissonance and Dynasty warriors 2. But 500 for Zelda... DAMN!!!!!!

Stuff along the lines of "I'll remember this" & "watch yourself". Also called me "greedy" a "liar" and "Hypocritical" because I wanted to get the most out of my games and not be "true to the hobby and the collectors" and sell them to him for much less than the going eBay price.
