Does anybody know what the story is behind Justin Bailey and Metroid, besides the obvious codes for the games. I've tried to do a little net research, but all i come up with is the darn code. O_O

I've heard that a bailey has something to do with swimsuits. A quick search on Google shows a designer label "Bailey Boys" that makes all kinds of swimsuits. In this instance "Justin" would be a composite of "just" and "in". When you finish the game, Samus is just in a swimsuit.
It kind of makes sense though I may very well be way out to lunch.

Truth be told, it's just a random password that happens to spell out "Justin Bailey". This can be demonstrated easily enough through one of Metroid's password editors.
The only specifically-programmed password in Metroid, according to romhackers, is "NARPAS SWORD0 000000 000000" (NAR PASSWORD) which grants invisibility and infinite missiles.

Yea, a lot of the guys on the Metroid fourms on GameFAQs looked onto this. The whole "just in swimsuit" thing is just another internet rumor. Bailey doesn't actually mean anything in any language. People try to say it's used as slang for swimsuit in Australia, but try asking any Aussie if they've ever heard it before. :) It's just a random password that happens to form a few coherent words and put Samus in her non-suited costume.
There are a whole lot of other passwords that use real words, but they are all just random. The only "real" intentionally inserted password is NARPAS SWORD.

I think someone linked to a password generator a while back. It can be used to generate many alternatives to Justin Bailey, so long as a particular checksum is included at the end.

So folks, if the only intentionally programmed password in Metroid is this string, where would JUSTIN BAILEY be stored? Ya know.
Very interesting, this, if it's true it'd be one of the most interesting cases of digital serendipity around.

"Excess code?" Didn't do their homework. The "secret areas" are either palette swapped areas or the result of the game trying to load random data from the cartridge as a level.
Oh, and that no-direct-linking-to-FAQ thing.
