Easy questions here.

1. How much have you spent on gaming to date?

2. Has your collection gained or lost money?

On just consoles (doing some quick math) ... I would guess around $2,000.

Games are harder, but ... I'll say $1,500.

Arcade cabinets, roughly $1,500.

Also, I'm going to include my gaming computers (C64, Amiga 500) ... another $1,000 there.

$6,000 so far. I'm sure my collection has probably lost money. I don't have anything "on a shelf" for the most part. My crap is all open and played with. Hard.

My guess is I'll have one of the lowest estimates on the board. Impress us with your deep pockets!

Just on consoles I'd say between 7 and 8 hundred. I have quite a few, but most of them I retained as gifts from childhood, so I didn't really spend anything on them. The only expensive ones were the brand new, PS2, Gamecube.

As for games, oh jeez. The older ones I'd say I average 6 or 7 bucks a game. I've got about 15 games for the Ps2 at forty or fifty a pop. I'd wager 3 grand or so, the bulk of my collection is $1 NES and $5 Genny games.

As for value, I don't know. I've only been collecting for a few years so the market hasn't fluctuated as a whole, but certain games like Suikoden 2 and most of my Working Designs stuff has gome up in price. I'd say it's about the same, maybe a little lower.

A) Probably somewhere around $2-$3 grand. Wow money flys. Last year at CGE alone I spent $800, worked all summer for that. 8-)
B) I am not sure. Probably even, because If I really want something I will spend top dollar on it. I have my Halloween buy though that was great and some others.

I really dont care if I lost money. I buyw hat I want, and am perfectly happy with it. What is money anyway? NOTHING. Its a piece of paper, and it ruins familys. I HATE HATE HATE money.

I have more fun when I don't keep score. As in gaming, as in life.

1) My collection isnt too big, but I have spent A LOT.
2) I'd like to think it increased in value, but I have no idea.

1). Gawd.... Ive got no clue. My IGN page says that ive dumped over 20K on games (but that depends on how they value them), and thats not counting all the consoles I have bought (got the PS2 at launch price, GCN at launch, XBox at Launch, 2nd xbox at 169[halo bundle] not counting the GBA and GBAsp both launch, and my DC for 40). It is probably something close to 10-12K (a good percentage of my stuff has been used so that helps keep the cost down). I used to go on binges and dump 200-400 every 2 weeks, picking up new stuff, or bunches of PSOne stuff. And did that for well over a year, maybe close to 2 years.

2). I think that most of my modern stuff has lost money (I'd say that 70% of the collection is N64 and up) That tends to go down, before it goes back up. All of my older stuff I dont really know its value as Im not hunting those systems too, It would kill me even more than getting all the stuff for the different systems that I do now, which is what I would do if I studied up on my older ones.

I really dont want to think about the cost that ive dumped...so many "better" things that I can have dumped my money into, or saved.... Damn you Flack.... Now I dont want to buy games again for a while..... :( :( :(

1) Craploads. :D
2) Classic stuff = probably about even. Current stuff = definitely a loss, so far.

Bonus question: Does the value equation matter?
Bonus answer: No, not really. The joy of having a long shelf full of SMS and Genesis stuff, plus my bigger-than-I-realized set of GC and Xbox games, is what keeps me interested. Not so much the thrill of the hunt, but the satisfaction of completeness is what gets me.

I'd post how much I've spent, but my wife might see and make me sell everything. It's bad enough that IGN posts an 'estimated' value and she sees five figures :D

(To be honest, I have no idea - I don't really keep track, and I've been buying games seriously since I started working full time, which is over 8 years now).

Since I started console gaming back in 1995, I've spent well over $8500 AU

IGN Gamestore says just a bit over $32k. I know it's more than that since I was heavy into the buy-play-trade thing when I first started working at Funcoland. Plus I've paid plenty more for titles that are now deemed worthless (Fantavision).

Bonus answer: As usual, value is subjective. I feel that my money is well spent, as the things I have purchased in the past have provided me with plenty of entertainment.

Note: These totals are from the time I originally made this post, and will obviously be different in the future.

Alright, I just got done adding this up.

I own 118 games, spread out over 5 consoles (SNES, Genesis, N64, PS2, and GC).

I've spent $120.00 total on consoles.
Super Nintendo: Free (birthday gift back in the day)
Genesis: $15.00
N64: $35.00 (However, this is a little debatable since it was a bundle with 8 games included. It's too hard to break down how much the games would have been separately)
PS2: Free (birthday gift a few years back)
Gamecube: $70.00

Now, here's a total amount that I have spent on everything for each system (console, games, and accessories). I also included a separate total for games for each system alone.
Note: I don't own a PSX console, and the only PSX accessory I own (first-party memory card) was free, so the total for that is a "games only" total.

Super Nintendo: $269.10 (Games only: $264.10)
Genesis: $29.23 (Games only: $14.23)
N64: $94.98 (Games only: $46.98)
PSX: $24.97
PS2: $123.96 (Games only: $103.97)
Gamecube: $198.96 (Games only: $110.97)

Grand total on games only: $565.22
Grand total on everything: $741.20

I'm not sure whether my collection has increased or decreased in price or not.

And by the way, I was thinking about getting around to this someday, so this thread sped up the process. LOL

Oh man, I dont wanna think about that.
I was bad when I was younger, not saying that Im THAT much better now but....

I bought the Super Famicom when it first came out in Japan through the only game dealer in town. I paid over $700 plus 100 for Super Mario World. Then being young and crazy, sold it back to the store and bought a SNES. DAMN DAMN so mad about that now.

Also bought Xbox near launch, $450, but now I only buy used games so I save more that way.

But Ive prolly spent over $2000 in my gaming life, easily.
