A few months ago a co-worker mentioned that his parents still had his old Odyssey 2 and some games. He promised to dig them up for me sometime. Since then, I reminded him every now and then. To be honest, the best I was expecting was an O2 unit (I already have 4) and some common titles.

Tonight he brought it in and I was ecstatic. Here's what I got:

-Odyssey 2 Unit in original box, including packing styrofoam braces. Missing was the manuals and the RF modulator. Box was in immaculate shape.

-Quest for the Rings, totally complete and the box in almost new shape. Some of the game pieces are still connected, meaning the game was probably never played. This copy replaces my old, beat-up one purchased back in the day.

-Conquest of the World, totally complete in a near-mint box, again with all game pieces as they originally were connected. This replaces the loose cartridge of this title in my collection.

-Demon Attack, new in box with plastic wrapping still around it except on the ends. Immaculate shape. I already have this one, too. Oh, if only he had Atlantis instead!

-Turtles, complete, in a slightly worn box, replacing a loose cartridge in my collection

- Killer Bees, complete, in a slightly worn box, about the same shape as the one in my collection.

-Matchmaker/Logix/Buzzword, complete - this is the one game I did not have.

The following games complete in their boxes: KC Munchkin, UFO, Cosmic Conflict, and Baseball. I already have all of these in about the same shape.

-Computer Intro, box but no manual - I already have this with the manual anyway

- Odyssey 2 Dustcover, with logo - sweet!

- A few issues of Odyssey Adventure magazine I already have, as well as a blank Odyssey 2 Adventure Club Membership Certificate

So remember, even if your co-workers think you're odd to collect old games, it's worth the strange looks to fish for treasures such as the ones I've found tonight. Be sure to tell them.

Which reminds me, I need to ask a friend at work if she's still willing to sell her 2600 stuff.

On a side note - does any old RF adapter work with the O2, or is it some special piece of classic-ware?

I totally agree. Aside from the risk that some may say "he's the video game dork" which is already WELL KNOWN :). I work with a guy who used to review games for a newpaper here in NYC. He's no where near as avid a gamer as I and mentioned that he was looking to get rid of much of his collection without the hassle of individual eBay acutions. First I picked up a Dreamcast and a BUnch of good stuff for it as well as FF8 for PSone for about 40 bucks. Then the other day he gave me Xenogears for free. I know that I have already posted this stuff..but it does say something...

Tell your co-workers that you collect games ^_^

I think the spare 2600 Star Raiders box hanging on my office wall gives it away, actually. Also, it's not uncommon, on slow holidays, for me to bring in a PS1 or two, loaded down with retro goodness and classic-style controllers, to help my fellow skeleton crew-members pass the downtime. :D

Good call! Since I let my coworkers (and friends) know that I'm into gaming, I've gotten a free Saturn with three games and a free Dreamcast with one game. Their loss is definitely my gain.

yep, it does pay!

i used to hound this japanese pastry chef i worked with to look for stuff for me when she went back to japan. she always told me i was silly for liking kids stuff but then one day she showed up at work with a super famicom and 8 games (including a boxed copy of that greatest arcade hits with crazy climber). 100% free. i sometimes mention my hobby at work but i'm sort of afraid to let them see our NECG webpage, here my gameroom gets respect, in the normal world it might just convince folks i'm insane.
