I know there are many threads on DDR, but none on Pump It Up. LOL Anyways, how many of you play either games? PIU is like DDR but it has five buttons instead of four. There is a button in the middle and a button at each corner of the mat. I suck in DDR because I played Pump It Up first. Yesterday, I tried Double for the very first time on PIU and failed. :o The version I was playing suckz, so not only did I failed once on Double, but 3 more times on Hard. I usually don't fail on another version of PIU, so I was embarrassed.

I absolutely hate Pump it Up. I always seem to wander away from the center of the pad, and thus begin missing many steps. That and transitioning from corner to corner means bigger steps, long time, etc etc.

I'll take the real DDR any day 8-)

To be honest, I like both. But in my opinion, PIU has better songs than DDR. Some songs in DDR rock, but that'z only a few. A lot of people who play PIU hate DDR and vice-versa. With DDR, to me, the arrows seem ackward and I can't step on the arrows too quickly as if I was playing PIU. Once you get good at either one, you'll tend to like it more cuz your good at it. LOL

I've never played PIU nor have I seen a machine.aye, same here. The "arcades" here are pretty pathetic. the newest game one of them got was Soul Calibur 2 two months before the US release. The other one has had the same stuff for 2 yrs straight

The same arcades for two years straight? WoW. @_@ Anyways, if you wanna see how PIU looks like (for those that haven't seen it), here's the link. http://www.andamiro.com/eng/business/business_01.html . I tried looking for DDR, but I only find a Japanese site, and I can't read Japanese.

The step designers for Pump it Up are a hundred times better than the guys that make them for DDR. The brutally fast stuff still makes sense. Imagine that! And Double mode isn't nearly as awkward on Pump it Up because the layout is a bit more sane for that sort of thing.

Yeah, I find it easier having the steps like PIU than DDR, cuz with DDR, my body position is always slightly turning left or right.

I started both at the same time, but I think that DDR is the far superior of the two. DDR's song selection is both larger and better. Too much of PIU's song list is just remixed instrumentals (Beethoven's Virus, Maria, etc.). In addition, I think everything about DDR just feels better. The four arrow format works better, I think, and the step patterns seem to be rhytmically better, almost like you're playing a drum part with your feet, instead of seemingly random.

The one thing I do like about PIU is the way that, one the really hard difficultie, it will ocassionally ask you to hit three steps at once, effectively forcing a knee-drop or handplant. I always thought DDR should do that.

To me it'z vice-versa. LOL But hey, I wouldn't mind playing a game with a DDR girl, even though she'll do 10x better than me. LOL In DDRMAX, I only like 10 songs or 13. All the rest suck for me, but I will still play it, so I can get better at it. DDR is superior, but PIU is not too far behind.

DDR has more songs, and overall, the quality of these songs are generally higher than the average on Pump it Up. But the best songs on Pump it Up absolutely annihilate anything on DDR. Jjanga, Empire of the Sun, Man & Woman, etc...

Yeah...with DDR's huge selection of songs, which are actually good? LOL Throught every arcade, I've only liked 3-5..maybe 6 songs. The thing I don't like about PIU is that they got rid of a lot of good songs that were in the older versions, such as Lover's Grief..and some other ones that I can't think of at the moment, but they added new modes such as Half-Mode (I believe that is what it is called).

Yeah, Half Double isn't bad. Division mode was the best, though. You'd change the difficulty in the middle of the song by stepping on the G or W steps that would appear. And god help you if you hit all the W steps in Csiko's Post. Holy shit.

I think I would never be able to do Csiko's Post or any some on Crazy. I can't do anything on Standard in DDR. :o

PIU was the first one I played, but that was at a local arcade.

So I ended up buying DDR and that's all i'm able to play now :(

PIU always had better music IMO
