Doesn't seem too many people have spotted this due to the lack of bids. It's a Hotel Famicom system for 'Love Hotels' apparently. You pop in some carts and plug it into a TV, pay 100 yen coins (or wire up a switch to override it).. and you can play the games. Good novelty item. I'd buy it, but shipping-wise it's too rich for my blood, as these things are insanely heavy.
As for the coin mechanism. I'd get a 100 yen coin somewhere and pull it out of the drawer when I need to. ;D or just rig it so I can push a button to trigger it. [very easy].

Maybe it's the broken VCR and the $211 shipping?

Love Hotels are just that....places where Japanese people, espeicly young ones, go to have sex or spend quality time together. :D Japan is a very overpopulated place, and houses often have many people and more then one generation under the same roof. In addition, free land is not as easy to find as it is here and many don't drive. Hence, for people to get away and have some alone time, they often will go to these love hotels.

Ewww... o_O I don't care how much they wash the sheets and stuff, I wouldn't want to have sex where tons of other people are having sex year round... You may as well go to a brothel then. :P Actually, my boyfriend says that sometimes Japanese men will take hookers to Love Hotels, so it is basically one step away from a brothel... I live with my boyfriend's entire family, but we're smart enough to either be really quiet or wait till everyone has left the house. :/

Nobody says you have to go with the $211 shipping (though SAL isn't much better), and the VCR's just a VCR.
*shrug*
Now that I've gotten a better look at it I probably wouldn't buy it since it doesn't look terribly clean, which means it could be really, really dirty.
That said somebody out there probably would drop $250 to get one of these, just wait until they find it. Not $250 on the bid and then nearly that much for shipping again, though...

Oh, and it comes with six games. Could be a goldmine.
The spots on the top of the unit look like light coming from the roof...too bright to be anything else. That said I've emailed him (love sellers who put their email in the actual auction ^_^_^) and I guess I'll find out soon enough.
I'd like to get one of these but wouldn't touch it unless it was new/boxed or pretty much unused. I mean really.

Yeah that's a normal VCR... looks exactly like mine actually. Actually now that I think about it, it eats tapes too. (:

I don't see the word "Nintendo" or "Famicom" on that anywhere. Are we sure it's even Nintendo's?

True, I can't even see a manufacturer. Guess the top right hand corner has model number...can't read it...maybe the kanji on the cover that he's slided over in the last pic?
I did get a reply, he says that the spots are indeed from the lighting and showed me a pic of a CubeQ he's auctioning with the same spot evident. So no worries there. :O

Wow Soulblazer you sure have done your research. ;)
I seriously don't see any proof that it is actually a Famicom thing. It does look like it, but I need to actually see the system/games.

A famicon at a love hotel....hmmmm......SEX & VIDEO GAMES?!?!?! Sounds like a great night, them japanese no how to party.
....On a side note, if you think love hotels are weird check out the oral-sex bars! Yep, they have bars where you order a drink, and get blown....And what i weird is how many people go to them, and how exceptable it it....
But back on topic, that is a cool item, and deffinately an oddity. If i had the green, and the shipping wasnt so high id bid on it.

Research? Nah, I always thought that was common knowledge. :) I've known that for YEARS. :D

Having spent more than a few nights and evenings in love hotels, I've played similar units myself. As well as units containing Playstations, Playstation 2s, and N64s. Honestly though, given the surroundings and the typical company, I usually prefer to watch porn...

I thought you said in one of your notes, pete, that you lived in Japan. How far off the truth am I? LOL

I've been moving back and forth a bit lately. Hopefully the next move will just be BACK. Anyways, it's cool you picked that up Joe. If that unit could talk, the tales it would tell...
