Additionally SAMURAI SHODOWN 5 and SAMURAI SHODOWN 5 SPECIAL are in development for PlayStation 2 and Xbox. Arcade systems for both and a playable PlayStation 2 version will be on display at the SNK booth.

Good times? You know it. Anyhow, Sam Sho Special came out last week in Japan, and I've heard some neat things about it.In addition to like 20 new backgrounds, the characters have seen some tweaking...

Basara's fireball has a different speed and arc, but overall, he's improved, a better character in close then he was.

Rimiruru was beefed up, she's safe after her ice needle attack, has a high priority attack in jumping fierce slash, good mixup game with her fireball and overheard, and of course, the SUPER OF DOOM.

Ukyo is better then he was in 5, better at poking, and his moves in general are safer.

Yoshitora was toned down enough that few people in japan are playing him now. Galford is still weak like he was in 5, Sogetsu is better then he was in 5, though. Like Ukyo, he's got a good poke game.

Genjuro is slightly weaker, his dp isn't as good as it was in 5, but the 3 part slash is still annoying as ever.

The boss characters don't seem overly strong...Mizuki has decent normals but is overall weak, Zankuro is limited in what he can do, Gaoh is pretty much just a poor man's charlotte, and Amakusa, I haven't heard anything notable about him.

Mina is supposed to have more recovery on her arrows, allowing big guys like Kusaregedo to move in on her easier.

The new Instant Kill move can only be done while you're in rage mode and you're opponent's lifebar is blue. Essentially it's a fancy way to finish a match, but it probably works well as anti-enlightenment. Speaking of enlightenment, it now lasts for a decidedly shorter period of time, which hurts characters that used it as a major part of their game (Yunfei especially). Alas, if Poppy is in the game, the code changes, since no one seems to have figured out how to pick the damn dog.
