Vector video games. For some reason, I liked every one of them. Major Havoc! Space Fury! Rip Off! Armor Attack! Tempest!

2D Platformers, and games that use 2-3 buttons tops.

I miss 2D games period. Everything these days is in 3D. Give us some of those classic 2D Run 'n gun games.

2d games of course, old school mario and sonic

Oh yeah. The good ol' side scrolling platformers. Imagine what those would look like today.

Beat-em-ups, like Final Fight and Vendetta. The one-on-one fighting genre killed them off, basically, but since I'm on a fighter craze nowadays, I'm conflicted. Still... *sigh* Those, and shooting games like Commando and Guerrilla War. :(

Power ups in shooters. What happened to them, anyway? These days companies seem more intent on flooding your with bullets than giving you the means to fire some of your own at the enemies.

Vector graphics, yes, I LOVE vector graphics

Also agree with a good Beat 'em up. Something like The Simpsons, Alien Vs. Predator, etc.

GOOD Disney games, and ones that you won't get made fun of for owning. Ducktales for NES is praised by everybody! And it's also much better than crap like Monsters Inc. for PS2 or Jungle Book Rhythm & Groove. I think Disney games went downhill when they started with SNES & Genesis....and left Capcom.

Pure, simple, fast paced gameplay. Kaboom for Atari comes to mind, Arcade Snake, theres even some games today that hold up to that like Gitaroo Man & DDR. I like giving my fingers and mind a workout, not crawling around in stealth.

I miss...

Good Batman games. There were a couple good ones on the SNES...Batman Returns and The Adventures of Batman & Robin (based on the animated series). Since then it's been "Holy Craptitude, Batman!"

A local arcade with games I want to play.

Friends who play video games.

Vinyl records. Okay, no one said this had to all do with games :D

Awww... come on the Lion King and Alladdin games were great too. I'd rate them right up there with DuckTales (and this is coming from a DuckTales fangirl... well for the series overall not the game in particular).

How can I say this? I miss the satistfaction of playing a game knowing that it could be my last new game for some time, rather than the one at the top of my voluminous "To Play" list.

American-style RPG's where you actually role play rather than watch movies.
Point & Click adventure games. Where's my Full Throttle 2 and Sam & Max 2??
2D Fighters. Screw this side stepping nonsense.
Games that never end, but just gradually get harder while you strive for a high score.

Laserdisc Arcade Games. I would love a new Dragons Lair, Space Ace, Cobra Commander, or any good laserdisc game. It would get my attention anyway to see a new one. I know I would have to stop and play.

I miss the "food" themed games. Pressure Cooker, Jawbreaker, Fast Food, Tax, Pac-man, Plaque Attack, Tooth Protectors, Burgertime, Food Fight, etc. Where have they all gone?

I also miss the days when videogames were just that--GAMES. Not me controlling some psychotic murderer, or machine-gun totting lunatic in some hyper realistic stealth mission. I don't want more realistic games, is that too much to ask?

I miss...

Games that you could just start up and instantly be playing. None of this fumbling through menus bullshit, neverending intros, loading time, or long tutorials.

The glory days of the Neo Geo... even if I was too wrapped up in Nintendo to pay attention to SNK most of those years.

2D games in general, but especially platformers.

When Japanese games were king. In the days of the NES, SNES, Genesis, etc. just about all the games that were hyped up were from Japan. Now it's Vice City this, Halo that...

I miss:

Games that were designed to be fun works of interactive art, not just crap shoveled onto shelves to make a quick buck.

Games where you didn't have to wander about a sprawling barren world for hours on end just so you can sit on your ass all catatonic looking at the pretty 3D scenery while forgetting what gameplay is.

Not having to fight with the 3D camera.

I miss:

2D platformers that put fun and challenge over gpahics and collecting mindless trinkets.

2D Rpg's that focused on interesting characters and unique ideas, stuff like chrono trigger and Earthbound.

The days before grand theft auto, when games like mario & sonic sold millions of copies.

The Super NES, the greatest system ever.

Games based off of food products like cheetos and Mcdonalds.

I miss the bizarre game ideas that weren't based on reality. Nowadays 'realistic' games are the norm. Whatever happened to making games where you don't control a human? I miss the era when giving you control of a green dinosaur (who blows bubbles to trap enemies and 'pop' them so they would turn into yummy fruit) was the norm. I guess I miss the "nintendo logic" that was rampant in the 8bit era. If I want reality I'll walk out my front door.

Walking into a videogame store and NOT having to journey to the back of the store were they HIDE all the XBOX and GAMECUBE games because all the PS2 sh%* umm stuff takes up about 90% of the store
OK i feel better now thankx ;)

I miss going to pawn shops and finding games that arent sports titles
I miss classic games being sold in volume at chain game stores
I miss when games were collected and played by only nerds such as myself
I miss when nobody cared about collecting vintage computer stuff
Most of all, I miss the classic era of gaming when companies were forced to focus on gameplay......... :D

The Virgin Disney games were JUST as good as the Capcom versions. Both franchises did a great job. The two Aladdin games were both good IMHO, though, admittedly, I did think the end battle in the Virgin version on the Genesis sucked in comparison to the Capcom's beautiful snake fight. I wish they could have merged the two. I can't wait for the GBA version if it's the SNES one. I would choose the Capcom one if I had to. Though, the two were strikingly similar at some parts. (Apples, anyone? Inside the Lamp?)

I truly miss older games that deserve an update. Mostly sega games.

I guess I miss the beat 'em up style games. Streets of Rage, Final Fight, etc.

Somebody, please do these games right. I know the GBA has had a few decent releases.

YES. I would sell off half my collection to get those machines. In fact, maybe I will. I want new vector games. The potential with today's processing power just boggles my mind and my imagination is not easily captured.

I miss the game plus mode in Chrono Trigger :) I think all RPGs should have a standard game plus mode built into them, I also miss wrestling games like WCW/NWO Revenge, Wrestlemania 2000 and No Mercy because of that excellent Aki gameplay engine, No Mercy IMO is still the best wrestling game evermade outside of the Fire Pro Series, I recently bought Raw 2 and was extremely dissapointed :(

I miss gaming information ignorance. Thanks to the Net we can get bombarded daily with screenshots, developer diaries, video, biased previews that can artificially inflate hype on a game while at the same time squashing any interest once you actually get the game because you know everything about it already. Sure one could just avoid going to IGN and such but if you have friends that are gamers and they need their daily gaming info fix, you'll definitely be left behind. With magazines in the past you got so much info and that was that. Typically a game wasn't overly hyped (except in between diffferent magazines perhaps) and you had about a month to mull on the info.

I also miss Magnum P.I.

As for games.

I miss the 2D games.
I miss when the arcade was the place to go to see the newest games.
I miss Turtles in Time.
I miss outrunning the cops in "Need for Speed: High Stakes"

I miss Turtles in Time.
One of my top favorites in the Arcade and on the SNES.

Ooh.. I have that game. Now that I just checked my game list to see if I had it already... I didn't know there were Cops in that too! I loved NFS III: HP and have been contemplating Hot Pursuit II for a while. Is and of those two as good as the original HP?

Also, I miss being able to tell what games I have without having to consult my online game list pages. LOL

I miss...

-REAL Arcades
-The 16 bit(and early 32 bit) era
-Sega systems
-Having friends that actually played games
-Being excited about getting a new game
-Only having gaming magazines for game info/pics

Good times, good times...

I just simply miss simpler times.
Back in the day when 2d games kicked ass and platformers were all the rage.
I also miss classic games being easier to find.

It seems many major chains and phasing them out and it's getting hard to come by them at thrifts and such for me lately. =\

I've never played "Hot Pursuit" but if its as much of a blast as zipping around High Stakes in a Porsche then i am sold.

I did play HP 2 on PS2, i liked it because you didnt have a set "track", you could take shortcuts or alternate routes to evade the police.

Best quote from the High Stakes game: When you have evaded the police for some eventually the "head" cop will blurt out "THIS IS NOT A GAME!". I understand he is refering to the chase...but still :)

I seem to keep at around 975 games. I think once I have over 1K games, I'll have to enter "gamers anonymous" or something!

Me: "Hello, my name is Ben, and I have a gaming problem."
The Group: "Hello, Ben!"

But what I miss isn't a type of game really, because you can always play the old games. Miss 2D? Dust off your SNES! I'd be shocked if you've played all the good games for it!

What I DO miss are my salad days of just being out of college but before I became serious with my gf! Having both money AND time to enjoy as many games as I wanted was pretty sweet! Don't get me wrong, I like side of the fence that I'm on. :P

Another thing I miss is the pre internet days of not knowing what all the released games were for classic systems. It was pretty exciting to learn over time how many more Atari games were out there, etc...

Cheers,
Ben

I miss the VARIETY you used to get in arcades. This included format: Laserdisc/Laserdisc-enhanced, Vector, and Raster. You also never knew what you'd find; Mr. Do!, Q*Bert, Snap Jack, Space Duel...

The arcades also didn't have the grim, dark look or the 1990s.
