Why five scores? Read on!

Earlier this evening I won an ebay auction on an arcade cabinet I've been wanting for a long time. A really mint looking Karate Champ! I don't know that I would call it a holy grail, but it's probably in my top 10 or so games I'd like to own.

Anyway, in the edge of one of the photos there's also a Super Mario Brothers machine. I e-mailed the seller and asked him if he had any other machines for sale. Since the seller is local to me and I'm going to have to go over with a trailer anyway, it would be just as easy to pick up two games instead of one, you know?

Basically, this is the reply I got. The guy bought the games a year ago and now his wife wants them gone (not an uncommon story in the arcade cabinet collecting world, haha). So, he had planned on putting all of these games on eBay but he decided that if I wanted them he would just sell them to me and save himself the hassle. If I was willing to take the entire lot, this is his deal:

Karate Champ - $100
Super Mario Brothers - $100
vs. Excitebike - $100
Robocop - $100
Rampart - $100

(thus, five scores!)

I've jumped the gun on deals like this before, so I'm going to try and remain calm until I actually have the games in my posession tomorrow. If that happens, you can bet there will be some pictures! :)

Being Sunday and all I think it might be appropriate to read from The Book Of Holy Crap That's Friggin' Awesome.

And on the seventh day Flack did not rest, because he was too busy hauling hisself a bitchin' payload. He got a grat big convoy. Ain't she a beautiful sight? Convoy.

I would absolutely kill for arcade cabinets, those are my favortie things in the world, but living on a small 3rd floor studio doesn't really offer me the oppurtunity. Do you have any more of those bad boys in your posession?

Thats really cool. Pays to have a good eye on other things that might slightly appear in the corner of a picture, and to ask. It never hurts to ask.
I was almost given a Centipede Cabinet tonight, friend called and asked if I wanted it for free. Had to think for what 2 seconds, said yeah, pending space being made in the house, only to get call back 5 minuted later to be told that, though I would have gotten it for free, it was sold just for 400.

That shot doesn't include the Rampage World Tour, the 4 player X-Men, or my Marvel vs. Street Fighter.

It also doesn't include the pile of doo doo I'll be standing in when my wife discovers I'm bringing home five more machines today.

ah! Thats awesome. $100 each? I wonder how much they would have gone for on ebay, at least 5 times that right? A super mario bros arcade....mmmm...

Damn that is just amazing. I love your cabinet room! I couldn't even imagine how how much fun it would be to have that many cabs at my house. Hope to see pictures of the others soon.

*Has a seizure*

Oh man I wish I had the scratch to start collecting those things. My personal holy grail is the Simpsons beat 'em up arcade cabinet. My father has two pinball machines, an Incredible Hulk one from the 70's and a Buck Rogers from god knows when. It'd be like a little mini family tradition.

Nice find and nice prices Flack! I've been kicking around the idea of getting myself a Karate Champ. Not the best game in the world, but it's a nice cornerstone to a fighting game collection.

I'm not going to let the cat out of the bag yet, but keep an eye out for a post from me after next weekend. I found one of my grail games and am going to be picking it up (12 hours in the truck @_@ ). It'll be well worth it though!!

You gonna make Mesquite on the 15th? We really gotta hook up one of these times!

I actually might make Mesquite this month ... there's some sort of food festival down in Dallas my friend wants me to come to, same weekend, so that might be convenient.

Damn, I'm sore right now.

Looks like the Super Mario Brothers one needs a couple of new Nintendo monitors. Anyone have any lying around? The others all look pretty good, Rampart needs a bezel and Robocop needs a marquee. Karate Champ's pretty rough on the sides, plenty of kid's initials carved into the wood. Ah well, summer projects. I'm still pretty stoked.

I'm just curious as to what your wife said. :D

Basically she said, get them the hell out of the garage and into the game room and she doesn't care. She's not real thrilled about the Mario/Excitebike combo because I don't think it's going to fit through the door of the arcade building, but we'll see.

While all the games work, they all need some cabinet work. It'll give me something to do for a while, I think I'll work on these before I buy any more that need any work.

Thats so sweet that you have that arcade room, I want one of them. Yours is a little light, Id want mine like dark and stuff to have the arcade feeling, maybe at night its better? That would suck if somebody started that arcade place on fire.

Um, yes. That would suck.

There's a string of rope lighting around the walls, usually when I'm out there I just turn the bright lights off and leave the rope lights on.

Fire me an IM or something if you are going to make it. I'm taking at least one game to sell this time, so I'll be there for sure. Probably won't be doing any buying, but I'll hang out for a while.

You do know what that Rampart cab is, don't you? I'm not 100% certain, but if I'm right, it's a lot better than Rampart... That Rampart marquee is screwed in, right? If it is, pull the screws and I'd bet that you find a Gauntlet marquee behind it. I know for sure it's an Atari cab from that era (look at the monitor bezel, it should be embossed on it). Either Pigskin or one of the Gauntlets, but most likely Gauntlet. If it is, ditch Rampart and restore that bad boy!

Hot damn, Flack, that's some good stuff. Well, not quite sure about Robocop (I think I've played RC 2 in MAME? eh...random platforming/variety sequences?) but the rest look really good. Good price, too! :)

I've got a dead one if you want it :)

If you find a source for new ones, please tell me.

The more I look at it, the uglier that Robocop cabinet looks. The back has a NAMCO plate on it ... I'm wondering if it wasn't a Galaga cabinet. If so, a travesty has taken place. White and blue paint with orange T molding. Yech.

When I got the Robocop game I was thinking, "hey, I can always turn it into another game" but then when I get them home I never want to do that! I'm always like, "but, this is ROBOCOP!" like it's a great game when last week I couldn't have cared less about it. I guess I'll have to play it a few times and decide if it's worth keeping or not. I've still got a Bloxeed PCB (Tetris sequal) and a few others I could always toss in there. I still want to own a Double Dragon machine -- maybe I could turn it into that ...

The Nintendo monitors aren't as bad as the guy made them out to be. The blue is washed out of the Super Mario Brothers one, and there's a darker vertical stripe running down the middle of the Excitebike one. I don't know if these are things a cap kit fixes or not.
