View Full Version : Beat'em-Ups: Which Character Type Do You Use?

You know, most of the classic beat'em ups have your standard character set, which typically includes:

- The balanced fighter who usually represents as "the boyfriend".
- The big bruiser guy who is pretty slow but does a lot of damage.
- The quick guy who can get more hits in but with less damage.
- The chick, who is often the best character in the game.
- The weird guy/thing/robot that no one else wants.

Which one is you? And why do you take that character?

Always the weird one. I like them because they usually have the most outlandish moves which are great to watch. Their stories are usually entertaining too. For me this also carries over to 1 on 1 fighting, Blanka, Brocken, etc.

I like the speedy guy myself. He may not deal as much damage, but he can get out of tough situations quicker by running away. I think Guy would kick Cody's ass in a (final) fight. :P

I like mixing it up whenever I can.

Always the chick.

E.g. Blaze in Streets of Rage, the chick in Golden Axe.

It depends on if I'm playing multi-player or not.

If I'm playing solo, I usually take the bruiser guy. I find that the faster I put the smack down, the easier the game.

If I'm playing with a teammate, I go with the chick (usually the best overall character)

Almost always the chick.

Except in the orginal "Streets of Rage "....because Adam kicks ass.

When I first start playing I usually use the balanced or the chick. One I learn the game more I experiment with the others.

I generally play as the balanced character type. Depending on the game I'll sometime play as the chick character. I like the other characters as a challenge once I'ved played through the game a few times.

I generally never use the bigger guys unless I'm playing with someone else. Most of the beat em that have those characters the later levels generally make it to hard. Your slow speed make it much easier for you to get hit, not to mention it's harder to get in your powerful throw moves.

I can't stand slow characters, so I use the speediest ones, like Ayame from power stone, sakura from street fighter, Talim from soul calibur 2, and servbot from Marvel vs. capcom 2 LOL Coincidently, most of them are girls.

Often times, I'm the balanced guy. Axel's pretty much the only guy I choose in Streets of Rage. Same goes with Billy in Double Dragon. :P

I normally take a speed character like Chipp Zanuf, but I like to mix and mingle with the strange characters like Faust. Though I don't like my char's too strange... Zappa was just a little too odd for me to understand.

:hmm:

What game are YOU playing?

I've never seen anything like that outside of the peek up Blaze's skirt on Bare Knuckle 2+3

The Dwarf in Golden Axe, Blaze in Streets of Rage, Hagar in Final Fight, Lots in Guardian Heroes, a Battletoad in Battletoad/Double Dragon.

Depends on the game really. I never have a preference outside of that I hardly ever play with the common balanced character.

My first real fighting game was probably Street Fighter II Turbo on the SNES. With that, I always played as Chun Li. Later on, with the "Super" sequel, I would play some as Cammy and even the guys on occasion but that was only to try out different fighters. Somehow, it just seems wrong to be a guy whaling on the women...so I prefer to play as the strong woman and whale on the guys...and other women. The fact they're not bad to look at is a nice little bonus.

Pigtailed girls in short skirts that show panties when they are thrown? None of the beat em up games i've ever played had a character like that and very few have shown any panty shots (save for Blazes panty peek).

If you would have said "boucy breasts" then you could pose the question"Which game doesnt have that?"

didnt ya ever play soul calibur?

No.

I classify that as a "fighting game" (ala Street Fighter 2) not a "beat 'em up" (like Final Fight/Double Dragon/Streets of Rage).

I'm not a very huge fan of fighter games.

I am very rarely the same person. I always try to be someone different every time I play.
