the Activision Sponge?????

A friend from work gave me an Atari 2600 and about 70 games. As I was cleaning them up I came across a couple Activision carts that had sponges in them. I've never seen that before and I have a ton of Activision carts. I asked my friend about it and he wasn't the one who put them in. They won't slip out so they appear to be bonded to the cart somehow.

Any idea what the story is on these?

After spending an hour on the piste, or even fishing, you needed to wash yourself, hence Activision provided a sponge (and sometimes soap, if you were lucky) to do just this. They were very popular after an event of Decathlon.

btw, just kidding about the above.....they were for protecting the exposed circuits, but later left out due to costs.
