Those of you who like the Streets of Rage series of games should check out Beats of Rage! It's a recently released fan-made sequal to the Streets of Rage series of games. What's better, it's completely free! I know this has been discussed before, but since it's beat-em-up week, it seems like a good time to mention that a Windows ported beta has been released!
There are currently Windows, DOS, Dreamcast and PS2 ports of the game, all available for free download. I believe there is also a Palm 5 port. If you were a fan of the old series, you should check this version out.

It's a great game, if not a little repetitive.
I initially got the Windows version but keyboards just don't cut it. So I got the Dreamcast version which makes the game a lot more fun to play. Especially thanks to the bigger TV screen.

Last time we mentioned this topic, I tried to download this game for the DC, but every time I tried, my computer shut down and I had to reboot. I want this so bad!

This game is good stuff. I'd gladly put it next to my SOR games (if that were possible)

I have the DC edition. Sure it's repititive like the old beat-em-ups but the edition of SNK characters makes it different and fun.

I have the DC edition as well, and even though it gets a little repetitive I think it's one of the best homebrews I've ever played. The soundtrack is great too....lots of techno-y type songs.

The music is definitely the best part of Beats of Rage :-P

Hi!
Is there anyone here who would be willing to download me a copy onto disc for Dreamcast? I just got a dreamcast a month or so ago and I can't even begin to fathom doing it myself. I'm terrible with computers.. I'd reimburse for the shipping of the disc and chip in 5 or 10 extra bucks for the effort? PM if you have the dreamcast version.
thanks!

Is the DC version not self-booting? I'm having trouble getting it to run...

If your having problems burning it you should probably post something at Dreamcast Emulation as they can porbably help you out more. Most of the emulator and rom disk are preetty easy to burn once you've done a few of them. I still need to try the DC version out myself.

What'd you use to burn BoR?
Azazel

I don't know as I haven't burnt it yet. All DC Rom disk have to be burnt with Nero and for the emulators it's generally either Disk Juggler or Nero. I'm sure it has instructions on the site and what burning program you need to use.

I suggest Alcohol 120%. Easist to use.

Unless alcohol 120% can burn Nero and Diskjuggler files it won't work, or if you can convert the files to another format. I've never tried it but it could maybe done. Don't you have to pay for Alcohol 120% or did they have any kind of free trial version you can download?

Free trial period.

I'll second that, that's what I use for just about all my burning. And I used it with Beats of Rage as well.
So what character does everyone use? I use pretty much anyone.
Also, anyone find that hidden 1 up on the boat? ;)

Anyone notice the "Watch out for thugs" sign on the wall in Stage 4's factory?
I usually use Kula myself as a starting fighter.

BUMP! Finally got around to playing this. It's an awesome tribute to both Sega and SNK, and the music's kickass too. I definitely heard the stage 3 music in the Mortal Kombat movie. Specifically, the battle with Reptile. Heh... what can I say? The Senile team loves their old-school games, as the simplistic action is addicting enough to get into. Sure, it's not quite Streets of Rage 2, but it passes as a more than competent beat-em-up on its own. Hey, to me, it's better than SoR3 (at least, the American version). They even go back all the way to King of Fighters 95 for sprites, which is nice. Props to including K' and Yamazaki, two of my absolute favorite characters from the KoF series.
Just one problem, though: The colors are a bit fubared for me, and around latter stages, black shows up as white, which can most prominently be seen in the white shadows below my character. Anyone else had this prob?

Word. Haven't used it since Propeller Arena & thanks to brother Flack, PA won't be my only DC freeware game anymore. Now to find/make some cover/back art. :band:

There are a few more mods coming up this year, including a Sailormoon one with an original story and falls pretty much along the lines of the Super Famicom side scrolling beat-em-up Sailormoon games - MUCH smoother and more fluid however. I'm a consultant on the mod and it's shaping up to be pretty nice.

Beats of rage was also ported to beatsofrage X. Anyone with a modded xbox (cauterize springs to mind) might wanna try that. get it off www.xbins.org (read their FAQ, the "room" is on EFNET irc, irc.efnet.net)
Yeah, I tried Beats of Rage when it was first released on Dreamcast. I thought it was a really fun, well-done little homebrew. BoR is a true tribute to our beloved SNK. Best of all, it's modifiable so there are a digital ton of mod files for it.
Interestingly enough, my beat-em-up friend found it subpar. Whatever, man, you don't know what you're missing. But then again, I don't think he knows of the beauty of SNK/NeoGeo. x_x

B'OH! Aw well... least I used the search function. LOL
So no one else has had the problem of "white shadows" for the PC Windows version? 'Cause that's the one I'm running.
And did anyone play the bonus level? That's some funky stuff right there. Glad to see Senile's got some Metal Slug fans.

Haven't played it yet myself, but I'd like to.
For those of you that are interested, there is a Splatterhouse mod being worked on right now, by a guy named Xeif. It's entitled Splatterhouse: The Mask Covenant, and here's some pics:

No one's interested in this? There have to be a few Splatterhouse fans here that'd like to play a new SH game, even if it's not by Namco.
