I wasnt paying attention and I purchased a Turbo Vision for my Turbo Express from Denmark (which it dont say, but denmark is a PAL Format country) And Im wondering if they even made these things in PAL Format? I can not find any information anywhere about it. Just wondering if im buying something I have to go resell. It they did, will a PAL Format TV Tuner work with a NTSC USA Turbo Express System? Thanks!

I'm making an (un)educated guess here and thinking that since the Turbo Express is a self-contained unit with an LCD display it won't matter what feed the Turbo Vision gives it.

Although it should make for some interesting results if it depends on a PAL signal being broadcast or something. Kinda doubt that though.

Hmm, I would guess that in this case, there is a difference. With European TG16 games being programmed to expect PAL timing, they'd likely have to release a PAL Turbo Express, correct? And isn't there some degree of region incompatibility anyway? As for tuner compatibility, that all depends on whether or not they would have made the PAL unit compatible with NTSC too.

'PAL' TG-16 games are the same as the NTSC ones, it's the console itself that outputs the PAL signal.

I know this because I have a Blazing Lazers that was marketed as the PAL version. :D

Very interesting. Is there any difference in the play speed? Or is the video hardware smart enough to just drop every couple of frames and adapt to the lower scan rate?

TG-16 doesn't really have a true PAL encoding in it's game, so there should be no issue with this.

There was a PAL version of the TurboGrafx released. It looked the same as the US version, but it was grey instead of black, and received basically no support. The few games that were released (And it's actually unclear if there was ever more than the pack-in released) are the same as the US games - Card, code and packaging. Since the Hudson chipset didn't support PAL video the PAL-TG16 had another video encoder to convert RGB to PAL, and the system outputs AV instead of RF. It uses a connector very different from the AV port found on the CoreGrafx series.

I don't believe the Turbo Express was released in PAL contries. Only a limited number of Turbografx got released over there from what I heard.

The Turbo Express was never released in Europe.
Very limited quantities of CoreGrafx and TurboGrafx were 'released' (usually 3rd Party grey imports, but there were a handful of NEC-sanctioned units, sold mainly in France). I was reading a very detailed thread about the PAL T-16 on the NTSC-UK forums recently that gives the full convoluted history.

Welp I got an answer from the seller about the Turbo Vision I won. She said she purchased it from someone in the US and it is NTSC WOOHOO. Not a bad deal for 31$

definitely a good deal.

About the Turbo Vision, and directly addressing your question, there was no PAL Turbo Vision released, but the ability for it to work is based more on the ability to receive the broadcast range of the stations near you. For instance, my PC Engine LT with built in tuner doesn't get really anything around me and I assume this is due mostly to the fact that it's designed to receive japanese television broadcast signals.

Absolutely true. We had this conversation here about a year ago, and I've got a picture of the box around here somewhere.
