I am new to the boards here and just started collecting games again. I found a brand spankin new Sega 32X today. The box is in mint condition and the system is still sealed in the plastic. The seller is asking $40.00 firm. Tell me what you think. Is it a good buy? Thanks.

I just passed one up for $40 (cad) with a box but not perfect condition.
If its worth $40 to you, or you feel like you'll be pissed off later, then grab it.

my 2 pennies.

If it's got the necessary cables (especially the very hard to find cable that goes from the genny video to the 32X) I'd get it.

Without that cable a 32X is useless, and many 32X's are missing that cable.

Unless you have some insane desire to buy older systems new, I'd say no.

Seems like used 32X's go for very cheap.

They go for between $25 and $35 New on Ebay + shipping.

So $40 is a fair price but not a great deal.

If you're looking for one to actually use it, then you can find complete ones for under $20 shipped.

Personally, If I found a sealed 32X for $40, I'd be all over that like a hobo on a ham sandwich! LOL But maybe that's because I would kill to be able to play knuckles chaotix.

Thanks for the quick replys. I am seriously considering picking it up. The guy selling it also has several 32X games loose for $3.00 a piece.
Also, are there any websites that list the values of the different consoles. That might help me out as well. Thanks.

Do yourself a favor and play the game on Gens instead. You don't need a top-of-the-line computer to run 32X games on this emulator... a 1.0G system is good enough. Best of all, you won't have to struggle with the finicky 32X unit or its aggravating electro pop-a-matic plates to get the games to run. You just set up the emulator, choose the game from a menu, and you're ready to go.

I don't think this hobby is in any danger of dying, Jon. If he wants to buy a 32X, that's his decision to make, but I personally feel that he'd be better off emulating the system. The 32X is much tougher to set up than it needs to be... the unit I tried was a nightmare of convoluted wires, off-colored screens (green oceans and skies in Virtua Fighter? What the...?), and system crashes. I honestly feel that emulation is the best way to play the system's games.

I was just being over-dramatic.

I've never had a problem with either of the two 32x's that I own. I have one hooked into a Genesis 1 and one hooked into a Genesis 2 with an attached Sega CD. I never bothered using those metal plate things either - just plug the thing in and play, no problems.

$40 does seem a bit high. Does it have to be new? Like others have said, you can get complete ones cheaper than that.

$40 seems a bit high, especially when I know someone that is selling one with box and instructions for $22 + shipping. Who would offer shuch a great deal, you ask. Well the answer is: ME! Check out my buying/selling thread here (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=33791). :D

Sorry for the shamless plug... :embarrassed: ,

I've had 2 in my lifetime so far... 1 brand new for $10 from a pawn shop, and one used without the connector cable (I didn't know about it then) from eBay for like $25. I say pass.

thanks for all the replys. I guess I will pass on it for now and look for a used one sometime.
