View Full Version : Xbox Spree - what do you buy

Scenario: You somehow aquire a working X-box with no games. Trying to stick to a budget you have a maximum of $110 (assume no tax) to spend on games. What do you buy?

I was thinking about this in EB this afternoon. Given these constraints would I simply get 2 $50 titles, Would that be enough to keep me occupied? Would I get all $8-12 titles giving you plenty of variety despite the fact at that price some titles might be on the lower end of the review rating scale? Would you get one super hit, and then a slew of amusing sleepers? Do you make sure you get a title of every genre, or only RPGs that will take you forever to solve? These will be all the titles you will ever be able to get, and the titles must be released as of today. (i.e. no votes for Halo 2 yet).

Have fun discussing this, but remember you can't spend more than $110 using standard pricing (EB, Game Stop, BB, CC). (No fair cheating by saying you got a $50 title for $5 on ebay.)

Get DOA:X ($30), Halo ($30), 2 Platinum Hits ($40 total), and Mojo ($10).

I would buy all the S-Video cables I could! That or Halo 2 preorder boxes! :D

Well, no, actually, I'd buy the original Crimson Sea (if I could find it), Ninja Gaiden, Dynasty Warriors 4, and Serious Sam (whatever the subtitle is) if I had enough money.

Some "spree." :P

I can't calculate the entire $110, but I would hurry up and scoop Rogue Ops for Xbox at EB before the price goes back up. It's the best $7 I've spent on a game in a while. It's just like Splinter Cell, but it moves along at the brisker pace. They might even throw in the free t-shirt if they've got any left at your EB location...

Well, if you don't mind the pre-played games, EB's is also having the more you buy, more you save sale, so you can scoop up a bit more games as well.

While I don't know most prices off hand on the pre-played stuff, I can at least suggest the "must have games" that will show off your Xbox, especially if you can get S Video / Component.

Higher end prices:
- Ninja Gaiden (480p Mode....hoowah!)
- Pandora Tomorrow: Splinter Cell

Middle of the road / lower end:
- Dead or Alive 3 (480p Mode.. O_O )
- DOA: Beach Volleyball
- Max Payne 2
- Crimson Skies
- Project Gotham
- Top Spin (also known as Uber Pong)
- Return to Castle Wolenstien
- Halo
- Burnout 2 (must have for 2 player fun, spectacular crashes)
- Kung Fu Chaos (Underrated Power Stone type game. Rather entertaining)

You don't need Halo, when you can play way better FPSs on your computer.

Get Halo and then get some cheaper titles that you think would appeal to you.

I'd get:

Fatal Frame
Crimson Sea
Dynasty Warriors IV
Jet Set Radio Future
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

If I could afford it, a 2nd controller too.

Well, if you don't mind used games, go to Gamestop and pickup

GunValkyrie $9.99
Mech Assault $17.99
Crimson Skies $29.99
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic $24.99
Halo $24.99

plus if you use your discount card, you'll get 10% off. If you don't have a card and you are going to spend over $100 on used games, still pick up the card, get the games at the same price and a free subscription to Game Informer for 10 months

Also, Best Buy had Goblin Commander for $10. Pick it up before they are gon.

I think the intent of my original post may have been lost. I'm not actually looking to do this, I'm more looking to see how creative you can get. Sure most of us can (and do) spend what we want on games, I'm just trying to see how far we can stretch that money if we needed to.

For instance last night I picked up 3 older used titles for under $25 combined. Although if I was trying to stretch a budget, I think I might have passed and gone with some things that were better reviewed instead of working off the "I heard about this one once" method of selection.

I'd probably try to cover one of each genre: 1 driving, 1 fps, 1 rpg, 1 golf, etc. That way I'd have sufficent coverage for every mood. I'll have to do some reserach and post my own picks later.

Heh....can't get too creative here....Xbox games cost WAY too much, even used up here in Canada. You'd be lucky to find a used title for $30. ANY title.

Assuming I can wait until 5/25

Metal Slug 3 $40
Jet Set Radio Future Used $8
Halo $30
beyond Good & Evil Used $18
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds Used $13

Cheers,
Ben

Halo 29.99
KotR 29.99
Namco Museum 19.99
Midway Treasueres 19.99

The rest would be used to for the local gas station to get a cold 12 pack of Mt Dew, chips of your liking, and to call in sick at work!

Depending on where you look...
I pretty much only buy used now. I have only bought maybe 3 games brand new and the rest, used. Depending on the game I wait and wait until it gets cheaper then pick it up if I'm buying brand new. Ever for a used game, I wont pay over 30, 40 at most.

I've gotten Spiderman, Gaunlet Ledgends, Intellvision Lives! all recently and
all for under $20 each, and I feel thats fair.

Those three retailed pretty close to that amount, though, right?

Well, I think I did JUST that. The most expensive game I got with my XBox two weeks ago was DOA: Xtreme Beach Volleyball and that was $25. Shenmue II and GunValkrie were $15 and Panzer Dragoon Orta was $20 NEW. So yeah, discounts are there if you know where to look. :D
