Hi I did a search for this but I didn't find anything. I have 2 versions of the model 1 Genesis one says "High Definition Graphics" on the top model # 1601 and the other one doesent say anything on the top model #1601-22 :hmm: . What are the differences if any other than the text between the two systems. Thanks in advance.

Keep on gaming 8-)

Well the red panel where is has the power light in it is a removable snap-on part on the later Genny 1 if you open it up. Also the circuit board is slightly revised if I remember correctly. Other than that there's not really anything different.

Some of the "High-Definition" models don't display a licensing screen at startup. These models are compatible with all Genesis games.

Oh yeah that's true. I forgot about that.

Sorry to bust in here and ask a question, but does that mean if I find one of the first Genesis systems, I can play Japanese MD games on it as well?! If so would this model be the one that came with Altered Beast as a pack in game?

Thanks.

Yes and no.

Any MD game pre-1992 (for the most part) will work on a Genesis without the use of a MOD or a converter....all you'd need is a Game Genie to give the game clearance over the opening.

Later Genesis games will check for which region the system is and mock you for trying to play the import game on it :)

The only plus to owning the orginal is the ability to play the early unlicensed EA games.
