this list of games looks better than the first MAT comp :D

I thought a few of those were on the first one?
Oh, I see. Super Sprint vs. Championship Sprint, Gauntlet vs. Gauntlet II, and Rampage vs. Rampage World Tour.
I hope they change the menu layout and design. I found those heiroglyphics (sp?) kind of maddening.

Man, I forgot Hard Drivin' was going to be on this. I bet it'll play real sweet with a force-feedback driving wheel (if it's compatible with one)
I agree with Flack. I hated the layout of the last MAT release. Get rid of the stupid hieroglyphics and use an arcade marquee instead on the new one....

I too hated the design of MAT1. IMO the perfect frontend for MAT2 would be a virtual arcade. Similar to the Namco Museum titles or Intellivision Lives. Allow you to walk aound a dimly lit arcade in a first person viewpoint with ambient sounds of classic arcades are heard in the background. Of course, being a budget title, we will probably get treated to a simple menu screen with a list of games.

The perfect front end would be one that would let me quickly choose what games I wanted, and be able to tell what is what from the main menu, something the first one completely lacked. Yeah, I can tell Joust from the menu, but half of those things just look like complete jibberish to me.
I had forgotten that Mortal Kombat was going to be on these. MK3 was one of my favorite time killers on the PSX. If I had 5-10 mins to kill I would just throw this game in. That and Tony Hawk 2 never strayed far from my original Playstation. I was disappointed to find that MK3 was one of the PSX games that the PS2 wouldn't play. I'm looking forward to Shang Tsunging some ass again in the near future!

What's Timber supposed to be about? I always liked AA's layout myself.

It's a lumberjack game with ties to that other occupationally themed game Tapper. In it, you run around, chopping down trees with rapid taps of a second joystick. You compete against the computer or a friend, trying to get the most trees cut down while avoiding dangerous woodland creatures.

Heh.
Anyhow, I can't wait to ge my hands on this. Playing Mk again will be a blast.
I also can't wait to play Timber. I love playing Tapper. Dave (Port) makes the game sound great everytime he talks about it. I know he is looking forward to it.
Yeah, those menus suck. I hate the sub menu pop up crap.

Where's Moon Patrol? It's bad enough that it was left out on the first one, but I can't believe Midway made the same mistake twice. Shame, shame.
Other than that, looks like it's worth buying.

Moon Patrol is an IREM game, silly! Williams just had the American distribution rights. They probably reverted back to the original owners, just like Pac-Man did.

Is that the same game that the Tapper creator was talking about in Midway's Arcade Treasures 1? Hopefully it is, because the description he gave sounds mouth watering.

No prob. I must admit, though, that it does strike me as odd that the game was included in one of the older Midway collections. Perhaps Midway negotiated a deal with Irem back when it was released, I don't know.
What happened to Irem, anyway? Someone had claimed that they went bankrupt or out of business. If anyone could supply me with more information about this, it would be greatly appreciated.
Balloon Fight: In all likelihood, yes. I'm pretty sure Timber was intended as a spinoff of Tapper. You could always play the game on MAME if you'd like to whet your appetite. You'll also find screenshots here:

I am going to pick this one up, mostly because of the MK's!
I saw the first game at best buy for like 15 or 20. Is it worth it?

Well, Irem put out R-Type Final earlier this year, so I guess they were still around as of spring.

I got the first MAT for Christmas and I tell ya I couldn't be happier with it. I saw the games list for the 2nd arcade treasures and while its kind of surprising that they're going for a mid-late 90's spin with this title I think that's kind of a nice change... one can only have so many instances of 'Defender' or 'Joust' across their collections... :D

This one looks tons better than the first, hopefully they do indeed fix the menu, instead of making it a guess wtf this game is puzzle menu. Really lookin foward to playing the mk's, xenophobe, wizard of wor, and world tour.

Interesting to see that Midway has moved their treasure collection into the 16 bit era so quickly, the second game should be just as fun as the first one

Midway announced an updated and presumably final list of games in MAT2 earlier today. The complete 20-game list:
A.P.B.™
Arch Rivals™
Championship Sprint™
Cyberball 2072™
Gauntlet® 2
Hard Drivin’®
Kozmik Krooz'r™
Mortal Kombat® 3
Mortal Kombat® II
NARC®
Pit Fighter™
Primal Rage®
Rampage World Tour®
Spy Hunter® 2
Timber™
Total Carnage™
Wacko™
Wizard of Wor™
Xenophobe®
Xybots™
The changes from the preliminary list: Kozmik Krooz'r and Wacko added, the original Mortal Kombat removed (because it's now included in the "limited editions" of MK: Deception), Steel Talons and STUN Runner removed.
No screenshots of the interface, but the packaging looks good (and quite different from the original MAT).

Ouch. That's a nasty cut. At least they didn't touch Xybots or Xenophobe. Those are the two that will sell me on this. I probably won't even touch any of those fighting games (unless I get desperately bored). And why Hard Drivin' but no Race Drivin'? RD was much better, I always thought.

I shall don my fireproof bathrobe at this point and say that I'd much prefer to have Wacko and Kozmik Krooz'r on there than MK any day. And I shall run away as fast as I can.

Go look on KLOV.COM at those cut games.
I never played Steel Talons but just comparing the screen shots to those other games it looks really awful. S.T.U.N. Runner doesn't look like it aged that well either. I wouldn't lose any sleep over either of them. Maybe Midway III will be "bad vector games that didn't age well" and they'll both appear on there.

better idea for midway
put back S.T.U.N. Runner and Steel Talons, keep wacko and Kozmik Krooz'r add Domino Man, omega race, and a hacked verson of gorf (remove Glalaxians and hack the sprites is astro battles(for copyrights sake)) and remove MK II and 3.

Where are games like Blasteroids and Hydra in this? Did they put a bunch of Midway/Williams/Atari arcade games into a hat and picked the first 20 they picked out of it? Sure looks like it

Those Jerks!
Losing STUN Runner was a bad move, and why no Mortal Kombat One???
STUN Runner was a favorite, they just lost a sale...

MK1 is appearing as a premium in the $60 "Limited Edition" of Mortal Kombat: Deception, which also includes 40 exclusive minutes of video content and a "Kollector's Kard."
(This is, incidentally, a very clever way to wean consumers onto the inevitable $60 price point for triple-A games, as it costs Midway virtually nothing to include the "added value" of an emulated game, footage from the cutting-room floor, and a baseball card.)

Despite the interface MAT 1 was a brilliant release, they put enough games
there to make it value packed. And listed lots of famed games plus a few
rarities. Some hadn't aged well of course but there was some forgotten gold
there, Rampart was a great discovery for me.
This new line up looks just a good. The games aren't as famous as the old
stuff but as I haunted arcades in the early 90s this is even more appealing.
NARC & Xenophobe pay the price alone for me :D Dropping MK for those
other dogs is a bit of burn. I wish they'd have put on Marble Madness 2 (if
the ROM still exists) I can't think of any other titles that they own that isn't
on these two. MAT 3 might be a real bottom scraper release.
Hopefully the interface will be like a virtual arcade. If the INTV can have a
proper interface then so should this.
Now if only Sega would do something... Zaxxon, Afterburner, Golden Axe,
Altered Beast...
I wonder why we never see a version of Gorf? At least they finally did a version of Wizard of Wor....

I want S.T.U.N. Runner. I was totally excited about this title as I still do not have a working copy of that game in any format. It was one of my favorites in the arcade at it's time. LAME LAME LAME LAME x's infinity!

True, if a game hasn't aged well, but it still plays good, why not keep it on? I would have kept STUN Runner on and taken Steel Talons and Pit Fighter off. Pit Fighter has seen better days too.

tyranthraxus, go to www.klov.com and check out all the titles that Midway owns the rights to.
Basically any Williams/Midway/Atari arcade game could've been included in this.

Right now, I'm just hoping that the voice is complete in WIzard of Wor. I'll be buying it for that alone. Wako and Kroozer are gravy.
