Two buddies of mine and I spend an entire weekend playing Super Mario Brothers 3 and drinking beer. Late in the second day my friend got up to get another beer and tripped over the wires. Sure enough, the NES started blinking and the two of us proceeded to kick his ass.

back when I was at Purdue, we had tile-over-stone floors
Two days after FF7 comes out, I buy a PSX and FF7 as my first game. My friend from down the hall comes in hammered out of his mind.
"HEY you got a Playstation!" and he walks over to it.
He steps on the controller cable, it comes flying off the dresser, hits the ground and just explodes. Case shattered, parts everywhere. Thank god my roomate held me back cuz I woulda killed him.
He came up with a new PSX and a new copy of FF7 tho. I know he was broke tho, and i never quite figured out how he did that... but i didnt really care either =]
"uh, dad... i kinda need like $250 in order to continue living...."

When, after a year or so hiatus, I decided to go back and finish my game of Final Fantasy on the NES. Put in the cart, turned it on, and no save games. X_x
Turns out the battery had died and I lost my save games. Then I decided to go check out my other RPGS on the NES. Dragon Warrior 1 and 2 had lost their games as well.
That was a sad sad day for me.

Some of my worst gaming moments, not in any order...
1.Helping my mom throw away a complete(box/manual/everything) Intellivision system with exactly 50 boxed/complete/mint games during spring cleaning. Our reason "This thing is old, and it just takes up closet space" :(
2.Pretty much giving away my N64(I can't say the price), because I wanted a certain "other" system.
3.Not buying a Dreamcast on launch day!
Those are probably my worst...

Trading in tons of games to Gamestop (Especially Mario RPG) to get a Game Gear.

Well, I have a couple.
First is back in the nintendo 64 days, I guess I would say '96-'99 and a little after, now remember this was before I collected games like I do now. (I don't sell any game I own now, I collect and keep everything)
I used to trade in pretty much all my nes games. I used to sometime bring in like 70 at a time. I know that's crazy! Just so I could get the newest N64 game that was out at the time. Then when I had more money I would go pay like 3 times the price I sold them for just to get some of the nes games back.
So, I don't know what was worse, losing my NES collection. Or trading in games like mega man 1-6 for $15 total and losing all kinds of money :o
I also regret not spending more money on games on ebay about 4 years ago. I remember some games that were only like $30 back then, now those same games sell for $150. :o

1. Losing my FFVII save 3 times. First was at the end of disc 1, second was half way through 2 and the last time was at the start of the 3rd disc.
I've never bought an unlicensed memory card after that :(
2. Trading in tons of games when I was younger, and realizing "I WANT THEM BACK!!!!" years later.

Same thing happened here! I only lost it twice before I wised up but it still sucked.
Anyways...Fighting the giant Chicken in South Park for N64 made me break a controller. Seriously, I stay away from that game now...FAR FAR AWAY!

Yeah, I'll second the 'unlienced memory card' experience. :(
I think I still spent too much to get my PS2 -- should have gone with a used one a few months later.
Probaly the worst mistake I made was not putting enough padding around my PS2 when I flew from Providence to Knoxville. On the way home back to New England it broke. :( Had to send it back to Sony to get the DVD drive repaired.

the day I bought Xenosaga. j/k
Seriously, I dunno what my worst experience would be. Maybe the day I accidentally beat my NES to death. Followed by the day that I accidentally beat my Sega CD to death. Followed by the day I accidentally beat my Game Boy Color to death. Yes, I have anger management issues. :embarrassed:

Chooky, I'm right there with you. In just about every aspect of my life, I'm the nicest, mellowest, most easy going person you'll ever meet. When it comes to video games, however, I have a short fuse. I've gone Pete Townsend on at least one controller for every major system.
There's the perrenial "Sold a bunch of games to buy a new game and have since bought the games I traded in back for more than I traded them in for."
Said this before, but there was the day I sold my friend my copy of Dragonball GT: Final Bout for five bucks and he immediately sold it to Funcoland for like $70.
Played Super Mario 3 to the end, fighting bowser, almost won, my brother does a little dance in celebration and kicks the NES causing it to reset.
Ripped a copy of FF3 out of the SNES while it was still on and threw it against the wall. Game was fine but I lost my save file.
The day I bought State of Emergency (yeesh.)
Lent a friend my Playstation, who then lent it to one of his friends (without telling me), and when I got it back from the second guy after going all over town the controller port only worked half the time. After about a month I got sick of it and cracked it open to find it filled with cheetos. To this day I can't get a straight answer out of the two who was responsible for filling my system with cheetos, and how they managed to get them in there.
And finally, what I consider to be one of the worst days of my life, the day I came home from school to find my mother had taken my original NES and about twenty games (three of which weren't even mine) and just given them away.
The day I cleaned my nes becouse my very little cousins got soda on the cartrage door. I took some soap and water then I realised something was wrong VERY WRONG! The "Nintendo Entertainment System" sticker washed away. Im still pissed to this day about it. I had it since new for 11 years in perfect condition  . DAMN YOU DAWN. TOUGH ON GREASE NOT ON HANDS BS!

Sellin' off my old NES with tons of great games. Even had some cartridge with like 999 games my dad got from hong kong or something (More like 150, cause the games repeat a lot, but...). But mostly, that I sold it to my sister's "friend" who she will never talk to again since the girl of that family is a pretty fucked up and cruel individual. So for all I know they probably still have it but I can never ask to buy it back. =\

I'd been playing some NES turn-based RPG with battery save for the LONGEST time, hours and hours devoted.
One morning, I'd woken up & started playing while Willie was still sleeping. In the middle of the game, all of the sudden the NES starts flashing.
ALL the saved files.. gone.
