Good examples, but I can easily think of a few other games they missed -- Gabriel Knight 1 and 2, Phantasmagoria 1 and 2, Grand Theft Auto 3 and Vice City, MOST of the Leisure Suit Larry games, not just the first one, and Final Fantasy X.
Yeesh, I need more of a life. :D

Yeah, I was kinda surprised they mentioned Golgo 13: Top Secret Mission. I didn't even know about the scene until I actually bought the game and played through it. Very interesting...

What was the one in Phantasmagoria 1? That's the only PC game I've ever played all the way through (Willie and I did together), and I can't recall..

It's not really in the game. Opening cinematic if I remember correctly. The main character wakes up from a bad dream then she and her husband get freaky-deaky. No actual nudity, just two torsos rubbing together. Now #2, whoo! They didn't call it A Puzzle of Flesh for nuthin'!

Lets see you can have sex in both fallout games, Arcanum, and in the Gameboy remakes of Dragon Warrior 1 and 2 they didn't bother to censor the "puff-puff" bunny girls. Although they are kinda lame. :P
I also think there was a sex scene in "I have no Mouth" but I can't remember if Ted actually did the maid or not... I think he does though. I know they show them in bed together at one point. Oh right and there's the rape scene in the elevator.

Anyone remember The 11th Hour, the awful awful sequel to the 7th guest?
Didn't think so.
Anyhoo, there's an implied sex scene between two characters whose names I can't remember so we'll call them Idiot Cop and Nosy Reporter. They hook up at a bar or something and then it shows them sleeping in bed together. Then Nosy Reporter goes to take a shower, and some goon busts in and kills Idiot Cop because he thinks Nosy Reporter is in the bed. Then Stauf makes a bad joke and the house eats the goon.

I happened to like both those games. :P
But yeah, 7th Guest had that scene in it. I forgot about that one.
And Phantasmagoria had a 'rape' scene in it also -- reading that post just recalled that memory for me.
Speaking of 'funny', I still think GTA 3 takes the cake for that. ;)

I absolutely LOVE The 7th Guest, I just hated The 11th Hour.
They bogged the simple gameplay of the former down with way too much storyline, clicking random items in the house to advance storyline, and the whole thing with the molestation of the girl in the wheelchair was just unnecessary, which is I guess another sexual theme in video games though a thouroughly unpleasant one.
On the upside, the 11th hour was the first game I ever figured a cheat code out on my own. I was so damn proud of myself that day I typed in "BEWARE X Zaphod Beeblebrox."

Haha. Agreed! My brother and I were at my parent's house for Christmas the year that came out and he was telling my poor mother about railing a hooker in a car to get your health back. Then I chimed in with "Then you can just shoot her and take your money back!"

As the biggest Golgo 13 fan in North America, I'm stoked it had a prominent spot on that list. To be a kid when that came out, and to see him retire to bed with that girl was just one of those moments. But that friggin' site's pop-ups froze my browser...

I can't believe no one mentioned Star Control 2, where you, as leader of the resistance, get to get it on with the leader of a planet of blue skinned warrior women a la Captain Kirk :D
So awesome.

I'm sure they're not yet done with this subject. This is apparently volume one of the matter, and I hope to see others mentioned... like Custer's Revenge.

I just hope some company out there see's the selling potential of implied hot lesbian action and publishes Fear Effect 3, which is completed and just sitting on a shelf somewhere :( . How often does "Girl on Girl Action" not sell?! LOL

Hey everyone, I'm responsible for the article being discussed on this thread. I appreciate everyone's comments and suggestions. It was very helpful and a lot less hate than what you get on Slashdot.
I would greatly appreciate help from anyone who could write up or describe in full detail some of the games described above (especially Star Control, Phantasmagoria and the Gabriel Knight games). If you'd like to contribute to the next Volume of Game for Sex and get byline credit, please email me or PM via the board system.
Again, thanks for reading.

Non-mainstream underground X-rated (Japanese or otherwise) games aren't eligible because they aren't accessible to the mainstream and consequently their cultural influence is nominal.
I was a little annoyed with that line. Sounds like the typical "If it's Japanese, it doesn't matter" mentality. I can pretty much guarantee you that the most popular Japanese hentai games like True Love have had more cultural influence (both in Japan and America) than the NES Golgo 13 games and are more available too (at this point in time, anyway). :/ Tons of Japanese hentai games have been released in English, and Americans can download them easily or purchase them at normal retail stores.

Well, they had to draw the line SOMEWHERE. I collect and play GOOD hentai games myself, and if you start to include Japanese console and PC games that are at least somewhat hentai that just throws open the floodgates. :) That's why there were guidelines in the article or you could literaly include HUNDREDS of games for consideration. Notice how there's no strip poker games either? ;)

How about Ghosts & Goblins? What do you think he's doing in his underwear with his girlfriend at the beginning? :)

I admit I basically tried to cop out of covering hentai stuff with a line that I'm not too comfortable with. I meant more to say that I think its more culturally interesting to note what is passable in the mainstream or has been passed in the mainstream for sex. That's not to say that Japanese games aren't worthy. But like someone else said, I had to draw the line somewhere and this isn't about pornography. Its more about perception and acceptance.
That being said, hentai games are not pop-culture and are not easily available in the United States. The closest any company ever came to was Megatech who released a couple of Xrated games that got plenty of advertising in top magazines, but those never made it to retail outlets either.

I guess you have'nt checked out www.jastusa.com recently. O_O
Plus they go to anime shows as well!
But yeah, I agree with you -- except for what Jast does, it's pretty hard to find hentai stuff here in the States, and the line had to be drawn somewhere.
I'd be glad to help you with a second volume of your article -- just give me a few days to replay some of the games in question. But I can summerize here:
Phantasmagoria 1 has allready been described.
In the second game, early in the game, the main charcter (you) and his girlfriend hook up in the bedroom on a thunderstorm night. They show bodies, a little action -- probaly the most clear cut sex I've seen in a game. :) There's also some B&M stuff later on.
In Gabriel Knight 1, they don't actually show anything, but make it QUITE clear that Gabriel does it with a woman twice.
In the second one, it's the same way. One shot of him leaving with a blonde in tow, another of him waking up in bed the next morning.
Star Control 2 also has the 'implied' sex as mentioned previously.
Really, the Phantasmagoria games are the best examples I can think off, with ALL games, of them actually showing the sex on the screen. Because they were adult and mature games, and a little (IMHO) ahead of their time.

And Sotenga,

I'm pretty sure that applies to Custer's Revenge, as it was not widely distributed.

D'oh! But I like that game... no... wait, no I don't. I just want it on there for the sheer insanity of it all. I mean, WTF mate? LOL
... I dunno, maybe Miss World 96 would qualify? Or Gals Panic... any NC-17 Qix clone would be right at home.
