Ever since I got around to looking into which games work in linux through emulation or native versions..

I've been on a huge PC Gaming kick..

I've been playing alot of Warcraft 3, Unreal Tournament 2004, Enemy Territory, Max Payne and Gunbound (gunbound wont run in linux just yet.. *eye balls WineX guys*)

I know that's not a *omg-lookit-teh-huge-list* deal but heh.. I play them ALOT.

And especially since they're online games it DOES get very addicting!

So I was wondering what PC games YOU guys have been into..

I was never much for a PC gamer but these days I'm really into them.. new and old.

For the last 3 months ive mainly been playing Enemy Territory, and I've been getting in some Priston Tale (http://eng.pristontale.com)(online rpg, currenly free) too. Just the other day i started playing Counter-Strike for the first time aswell...

ET is still better than CS though, especially on a 40 player server with low pings and good, anti spawn art admins :-P

I mainly just play the classic DOS stuff.

My favorite PC game right now is definitely Enemy Territory. I like that it's fast paced since I tend to suck at games that require any kind of stealth tactics. :) Plus, if you're lucky enough to get on a server with mature players who work as a team it's SO easy to lose track of time because it's so addictively fun.

I did also play the UT2004 demo and really enjoyed it. I'll probably buy it soon.

Lately I've been playing Dungeon Siege. Before that I finished Metal Gear Solid for the PC. I also played System Shock for DOS. I also pick away at Dungeon Keeper from time to time.

Thief: The Dark Project (and the Gold version, which is better IMO) and Thief 2 are both readily available, inexpensive, and r0><0r.

I recently decided that the time had come to finish the original GTA (which as you may know has beenr released as freeware). Dang, but those chapters are long.

Once I get my new graphics card working, I'll finish Anachronox and move on to Final Fantasy 8 (unless the graphical improvement is sufficient to persuade me to replay Anachronox).

I need to start playing more Battlefield Vietnam as well.

Now that I have a 2nd hard drive in my system for all my music...I'm going to reinstall my favorite games back onto my PC...can't wait to play these again:

Roller Coaster Tycoon 2
Sid Meier's Sim Golf
Command & Conquer
Sheep
Serious Sam

Without broadband, most of the online games just won't work well...

And I don't really like the MMORPG type game, so those hold no interest to me...

I guess I should ask: looking at my list above...are there any PC games you guys could recommend for me? I have a 1.6 P4 w/ Win XP 512 MB of RAM, and a fairly generic 64MB video card...so I figure some of the new games may chug on my system...what's been good in the past year or two, and is good in offline 1 player mode??

The past year or two? Hmm...that's a tough call, because of late most games seem to have pretty high system requirements. You might want to try:

-The Sims
-almost any Blizzard game except possibly Warcraft III
-Sacred or Divine Divinity / Beyond Divinity if you're into RPGs
-Heroes of Might & Magic IV
-Freedom Force
-maybe Command & Conquer Generals? I don't know.
-I'm not sure about Age of Mythology - you should check the sys reqs
-Moonbase Commander is sort of a fun and different strategy-esque game

In the past 2 years that's about all I can think of...there are plenty of good games that are 3-5 years old that are still really good if you haven't played them and aren't interested in 2D RPG / strategy. Like:

-the original Unreal
-Thief 1 & 2
-System Shock 2
-Deus Ex
-Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri (very heavy on strategy, not a fast game)
-Age of Empires II
-Anachronox
-C&C: Renegade

I'm not sure what else. PC games have sucked hard of late. Without any indications of what genres you like, it's sort of a scattershot thing.

PS - Hype: The Time Quest is another game that's decent and that would definitely run on your system, but it's hard to find. It has a sort of Ocarina-of-Time feel to it, and while it's simply not as good as OoT I think it's definitely a worthy and entertaining game in its own right.

I've been playing alot of Starcraft the past few days. Though I only installed it to test the patch and I wasn't going to play much PC games till I redid my system, oh well.

I gotta find the old Unreal Tournament (first edition) patches/updates again and play more Red Alert 2, if I can download the Deezire mod.

I want Brood War and Yuri's Revenge now. lol

One simple word: Civilization!

I've only recently acquired III (and a PC capable of playing it), so I can't say much about it. Except it looks like it's getting too complicated...

Civ II, though, is one of my top 3 favourite games of all time (not PC games, video games). I'd recommend it in a heart beat.

I also picked up Tiger Woods 2004 recently but, again, haven't had much time to play it. But I really enjoy computer golf - as an occasional golfer myself it's nice *actually* being able to hit the ball where I want it to go :)

you should get Alpha Centauri, also by Sid Meier, superior to Civ and in a sci-fi setting, also get Colonization, also better than Civ, also by him, also a cooler setting (Colonization of America!!)

I'd also recommend Outcast, which is probably my favorite PC game. It's so sad they stopped development of Outcast 2 D:

For me I haven't really gotten into PC gaming all that much lately. I've tried games like Neverwinter Nights but it just doesn't "do it" for me. I'm spoiled by the action-slashers like Baldur's Gate or D&D: Heroes on Xbox. I also don't play emulators all that much lately either. What I do try (or have slated to) play are:

UT2004 Demo
Tie Fighter (for Win 9X-works great on WinXP in Compatibility Mode)
Freedom Force (well, I wanna get back into it as I haven't reinstalled it since I got the new computer)
Star Wars: Jedi Academy Demo (seems to play better on PC than on Xbox for me)
A variety of games from Retro Gamer Issue 2 disc (has a lot of remakes of classic games)

Grim Fandango. I picked it up at a nearby Goodwill. It's easily the best two dollars I've ever spent on a computer game. Why wasn't this released on the Playstation, anyway? It would have been perfect for that system.
