I'm begining to doubt my recent purchase of an xbox. I've only owned it for about 2 weeks, but the few times I've sat down and played more than an hour I walk away feeling sick. (I tend to get car sick rather easily too.) I know this this topic has been covered before in the past but what hasn't been covered are what games are good for those that get queasy.

I've resolved myself to the fact I can't play fps like Halo, but a few other titles I've picked up in recent days like Circus Maximus, BMX XXX, and 007 give me the same feeling. The fast motion and moving camera angles drive me crazy.

So if you do tend to get sick, what titles do you have no problems with?

I have the same problem. 3-D games drive me nuts. Have you tried any racing games, like the Need for Speed series? The Tony Hawk games aren't bad either. For the most part I stick to games that have a ground element to them so I can find my bearings when I need them. I guess you could always take a non-drowsy Dramamine too. ;)

i just picked up The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind used from Gamestop for $9 and i think this game is awesome.. a month or so ago i picked up Oddworld, Blinx, and Bloodwake... and i got tired of those games after about 1-2 days.. i havent even opened Blinx yet, but Morrowind seems like a really cool game.

cdc1: Morrowwind will probably cause the same effect he's looking to get rid of though...

I recommend the soon-to-be-vast array of 2D fighters on XBOX, plus online capabilities make it even better!

Also, Metal Slug :)

I don't know what to say. I've never had this problem before. Do you have any of the other systems or is it specific to this one for some reason?

I guess you could try something overhead like Baldur's Gate, or maybe a fighting game like Soul Calibur 2 or Dead or Alive 3. The camera angles in the fighting games change when showing the replays, but that doesn't make up much of the games.

Sports games might be good too. While they'd 3D, they're not "in your face" (unless you play first-person mode in ESPN Football). Also, they usually have a variety of different camera angles to choose from, so maybe you can find one that doesn't make you sick.

The Sims might work, since it's from an overhead perspective. There are times when you need to zoom and rotate the camera to see things, but you're in control of that.

Dramamine is your friend...

Most people I know who have problems have them w/ FPS games.

Halo might be a bit tough on you...

The only Xbox game that makes me queasy if I play it for more than 30 minutes at a time would be Jedi Outcast. I don't know what it is, but it makes me feel ill. I've never had that problem before, weird.

As for a suggestion, try two of my favorites... Blood Wake and Crimson Skies (there IS a lot of twisting and turning in Crimson Skies, but your focus is such that you don't get that sick feeling).

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll probably pick up one of the need for speeds next. I played another driving game on a demo disk with no adverse effects so I'll have to see.

I am open to other suggestions too.

Dramamine is your friend...

The the day I need to take medicine to play a "game" is the day I sell everything. This is not an option in my world.

The first games to give me "motion sickness" were Descent and Duke Nukem 3D.

NorkUSA and I were talking recently about how FPS make him sick too.

Isn't there some bracelet or something you can get for motion sickness?

this is one of those days i'm glad that genetics gave me the problems it gave me and not things that hinder gaming....

Another suggestion so you dont get sick-
Every 10-15 minutes get up and walk around the room, maybe go get a drink. This is suppose to help. My mom gets really natious from 3D games.

I have a strong stomach but sometimes when I'm playing a projected game with a lot of 3D movement I get a little queasy. One time I had some family over and I was showing them Rogue Leader and most of them had to leave the room.

Sooo, my suggestion would be to find the smallest screen possible. Or you could just give me your X-box next time you come over. 8-)

I have read a lot about this subject, as I too am prone to video-game induced sickness. One important thing to know is that unless you are playing a game in a car , boat or plane what you are experiencing is NOT motion sickness. It is very much like motion sickness, but it is not. Therefore, taking Dramamine will not help.

This sick feeling occurs because your mind thinks you should be moving, but your body is not. In order to avoid this feeling, here are some tips:

1. Play in a well lit room
2. Play in short spurts (10-15 minutes between breaks)
3. Stay as far back away from your TV as possible
4. Occassionally glance to the side of the TV (to a stationary reference point) so that your mind knows that you are not moving.
5. Don't play if you're tired.

The games these days are too realistic - You can't let your mind be tricked into thinking that you're moving when you really aren't.

Deffinately check out Blinx: The Time Sweeper. It's 3d, but it's a slow-moving platformer, you shouldnt have any problems playing it......Plus, it's fun as hell! One of my favorite games.

Actually, a friend of mine sold his copy of Crimson Skies because he got sick of it. So who knows what impact it might have at the topic poster :)
