Probably the same old crap with enough there to make all the usual game journalists praise it as game of the year and drop 10's all over the place. I won't be picking it up, at least not until it hits the bargain bin...

That guy on the bike really needs to pull his pants up, what if they fall while he's riding, he might get hurt!

For me, I dont think that Vice City can be topped. It had the music and the humor and everything that catered to my tastes. The three San Andreas screenshots say nothing more than gang war. And while I'm sure that GTA needs to start to up the ante a little bit in order to compete with games like True Crime, I just cant imagine them bringing anything that incredibly fresh to the table with this one. I'm interested, and I have loved each of the GTAs from the past, but really, Vice City was a masterpiece, how can you surpass it without having motorcycles with sidecars?

Pardon my ignorance ... was Rockstar accused of being racist or something? It seems curious that all the screenshots are of black characters. Is this game being marketed differently, or did someone complain that you could only play white characters up until now?

Those screenshots look awesome, but I agree that I don't know how Vice City can be topped. This is bound to be the same GTA style gameplay with different characters and missions set in a different city. Big deal, you know?

I'm honestly starting to get tired of all these newer games being released that have so many sequels made or the same game is re-released with a new name and facelift. Now don't get me wrong, I LOVE GTA III and Vice City, they're truly great games. But c'mon Rockstar, you're starting to wear out your welcome!

VC was a masterpiece but I can think of plenty of ways they could've improved on it too. "Better looking cutscenes" wasn't reallly one of them though, so I guess I'll have to reserve judgment for now...

Well GTA III was basically set in New York with the Itallian Mafia, Vice City in Miami with the cubans. I guess California has black gangs? *shrugs*

Rockstar's suffering from Capcom syndrome now- making add-ons for an exsisting title ala SF2. Least Rockstar learned to count to 3 before they started asking what number comes next.

Hope the gameplay is good. Those screens look ver similar to Vice City. But, as always, we will have to wait and see untill the finished product comes out.

I can't wait for the "Why does it have to be an African American?" crap.

(Don't take it the wrong way, remember the hatians.)

Better make him Pink Rockstar.

The Graphics look smoothed out a bit but damn the PS2 is really starting to show its age here I mean look at this one of Sony's cash cows and compare to the NEW ZELDA FOR GAMECUBE or even though its not really a fair comparison Halo2 or any of the current Xbox games
as far as gameplay goes if this is just going to be full of a bunch of gang-war crap x_x I will definitely pass on this edition of GTA
I dont care to go around killing ppl in a game cuase they are wearing the wrong color do-rag or racist stuff like that but thats just me I guess
also IMOA the GTA:double pak i have for Xbox looks better than this :o
I guess well see

I'll be happy unless it's all GANGSTA instead of GANGSTER. If the lead character is some punk wannabe "thug playa" instead of the complicated, endearing, yet dangerous "mob badass", I'll really be upset.

Ha ha. It's true, but if Rockstar releases an update a year for the GTA series I for one will be a very, very happy man.

From Gamespot:

"Five years ago Carl Johnson escaped from the pressures of life in Los Santos, San Andreas...a city tearing itself apart with gang trouble, drugs and corruption. Where filmstars and millionaires do their best to avoid the dealers and gangbangers. Now, it's the early 90s. Carl's got to go home. His mother has been murdered, his family has fallen apart and his childhood friends are all heading towards disaster. On his return to the neighborhood, a couple of corrupt cops frame him for homicide. CJ is forced on a journey that takes him across the entire state of San Andreas, to save his family and to take control of the streets."

Set in the 90s gang environment? Most likely will sport the Snoop/Dr Dre g-funk that took over the airwaves. I'm not the biggest GTA fan, but I think it would be kinda fun if they had lowriders with hydrolics.

As for the racial issues, it was only the Haitians that complained, so its not like Rockstar was being boycotted by a wide margin in the Black community.

It doesn't look like it'll top Vice City, but as long as Rockstar doesn't screw something up gameplay-wise, it's not bad.

GTA3 already had Lowriders, and so did Vice City :)

The Bicycles are a nice addition though I'm beginning to get the feeling Rockstar is intentionally leaving out stuff in their games to use it in the Sequels - like the Bikes & Shootable Tires in Vice City etc ;)

I realy hope they have a solid story, cause thats the main thing, the rest is just pretty ..adding BMX's and skater punks wont make the game good,
what they say is that this will be the last game that uses this game-engine.

They basicly took the original PS1 Gran Theft Auto and cut it in 3.
In the Original - there were 3 parts in 3 cities. And guess what were their names....You started off in Liberty City..next level took you to Vice City and the last story was in San Andreas......

The story will make it or break it...

So this one won't be set in the 70's itself like we thought, nice.

Personally, I've always wanted to play a game that was basically "Bloods vs. Crips" in 3-D.

I just think it would be pretty cool and funny. I recently rented True Crime, and I thought that that particular game was pretty cool.

It seems that this game takes it more into the "hood" of the 90's. Basically a "Boyz in tha Hood" in 3D.

I definitely check this baby out when it gets the XBOX treatment.

Anyone wanna take a guess as to what the soundtrack will be like? I'm thinking something like Warren G, Fat Joe, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, etc.

I just got Game Informer in the mail, and they have a 10 page write up of the game with many more screenshots. Nothing specific about soundtracks or voiceover talent yet, but one of the creators said that they're going to push everything further than ever before. I was a bit disappointed by the initial screenshots as well, but reading the article makes me much more excited for it. This is going to be way more ambitious than Vice City or GTA 3. I actually liked GTA 3 better than Vice City, even though Vice City's soundtrack was a million times better and also had a better vehicle selection; the problem was that Vice City seemed much smaller and less interesting to explore than GTA 3. GTA 3 was also a lot more fun to cause mayhem and destruction in. Hopefully, with San Andreas, this will be rectified because it is mentioned in the article that there are 3 entire cities contained in the game. Hopefully, they're all a good size and fun to explore and destroy, just like GTA 3.

Oh, and the only thing I'm worried about for San Andreas right now IS the soundtrack; all the mainstream music from the early 90's was terrible (a trend that continues strongly to this very day).

Rockstar spill the beans. San Andreas details galore inside: plot, locations and new gameplay revealed

So. Now we know. San Andreas is NOT Los Angeles, it's a whole state. Los Santos, on the other hand is, to all intents and purposes, LA. The game's two other cities, San Fierro and Las Venturra are based on San Francisco and Las Vegas respectively. There'll be countryside between the three main areas, each of which is roughly the same size as the whole of Vice City. Big, in other words. Overall, the game will be an incredible four to six times the size of its predecessor.

Main character Carl Johnson is going to have his work cut out. Returning to his old haunts after five years in the Liberty City slammer, and blamed by his older brother Sweet for younger bro' Brian's accidental death, he'll be making his way through an early 90's streetscape besieged by rival gangs.

The most significant gameplay changes are a new stamina meter, meaning you need to eat, and massively improved building interiors. You'll be able to commit burglary now, or run a casino in Las Venturra. If you're feeling less ambitious you can just gamble away your ill-gotten gains on the tables in LV.

Brilliantly, improved AI means you can recruit a gang, the Orange Grove Families, and drag members along on missions. Up to four people can complete a drive-by mission, for instance.
