He didn't steal the gear, it wasn't daylight robbery, the friend was pleased with what he got, I don't see any kind of problem with that?

So, to sum up their conclusion:

Anyone who disagrees is a jealous, bitching idiot.

I'd have to agree with ClubNinja and chadtower here and say that I'm a little torn. I would have very possibly done the same thing, but it's a little iffy as far as my personal morals go. Sounds like an ignorance is bliss kind of thing. There was enough communication for it to be a fair transaction, but not enough to make the guy realize that those were the most valuable items he had and he would have gotten probably more than twice as much money had everything been sold. As for the earn it through labor part, yeah, I'd probably want SOMETHING for all that work, but more than half the potential earnings? Nah, that's too much. eBay is a lot of work, but I've been more than happy to help people close to me and friends with listings. Just recently I managed a whole bunch, and I didn't ask for anything at all in return. Doesn't bother me in the slightest.

Now before anyone accuses me of "bashing", I'd like to point out that I'm doing no such thing. I'm just throwing out my 2 cents.

It just doesn't add up to me that someone would spend that much on things of obvious quality, know the values, and still give that much away like that.

Been there. Done that.

I've given away lots of stuff that I knew had value that I could've sold it for. But I'd rather make a friend happy than go through the hassle of trying to get 'full value' out of something. That's me, that sounds like the friend in question, and there are lots of other people out there like it.

Not everybody takes the dollars and cents of a hobby as seriously as perhaps you do.

This whole situation reminds me of one of the deleted scenes from High Fidelity. Or that commercial witht the 10.00 Hot Rod.

exactly, I dont see how anyone CAN desagree on a deal like that. ;)

That is so startlingly dumb I just thought I'd quote it... So, since it doesn't look like you're willing to direct your friend to this thread, I want to clarify: Does your friend know the dollar value of the items you kept? I realize he knew what you kept beforehand, but no where did you say that he realized you were keeping what basically amounted to all of the items of high collector value. If he did not know their value, you ripped him off, plain and simple.

How many times do I have to say things around here. YES, he knew the value...he DID pay for it all...he mentioned how much PDS sells for. And I didn't say I wasn't willing to direct him here, it's just catching him online for more than 2 mins at a time is hard to do. I said I would if I could, now get off my back dammit...I think everyone else understands the situation except you.

All I did was ask you a question about the trade, and you jump on my back like you have to everyone who has questioned the ethics of this trade. Your rabid defensiveness shows me that you know this was somewhat unethical. Personally, having witnessed your response to our questions, I'll know in the future to avoid, or at least be wary, of any deals with you. You simply can't respond to our questions in a mature manner. As has already been pointed out to you, you asked for community feedback, and then became upset when some honest opinions conflicted with yours. I'm starting to agree with that guy who called you an a-hole...

Why the hell do people always say someones "unethical" or something of the sort because there defensive. Hell yeah I'm defensive, am I unethical? no. I am defensive because I do NOT like being called a crook for something I don't deserve to be called one for.

And yeah, Maybe I'm not responding maturely...but I answered everything you've asked already. And you still ask them. I was mature in the beginning, but around page 4 when people started asking and saying the same thing I already answered it got a little old. Roll your eyes all you want, call me an asshole, DON'T trade with me! I do not really care. In the end, I still have this hell of a haul to make me happy, and my friend is happy with his 1000.00.

Your user name suits you very well, by the way. :o

I'm not jumping in the whole debate thing, but I've only had good deals with cmosfm.

Hell, we traded Sega CD games once, and personally, I think I got the better deal (Marky Mark for his Terminator game)

I will add one comment, or just something to think about.

The phantom 1 convertor is available only from ... whatever that neo geo store is and ebay correct? That's about $200 bucks right there. I personally think that the guy had to have an idea of the value of these games.

I have stated it already, I DID NOT TRY TO SELL THE STUFF I KEPT. He knew exactly what I was keeping BEFORE I even listed the auctions...he said it was fine.

So again, He sent me the stuff, I said "Hey, I want this keep this stuff" I named him everything I wanted to keep. THEN I SOLD THE OTHER STUFF!

I'm aware that you said this all this. What I doubt though is that your friend was aware of the value of the items that you chose not to sell for him. I find it very hard to believe that this guy was so hurting for money that he had to sell off what looked to be a very nice collection, only to [b]GIVE[\b] you about 60% of the collections value.

Actually it looks like someone already made this point and you answered that your friend DID supposingly know the value of the items that you were keeping. I still find this hard to believe for a person in need of money but I guess that I have to take your word for it.

If it were me I'd still feel dirty for screwing over a friend though. but that's just me.

I just hope I have not made any enemies out of this thread, that was not intended, as I do not hold any hard feelings toward anyone here.

Sorry this thread had to turn into a train wreck, Cosmo.. I thought it was a great haul and you did nopt do anything wrong plain and simple. These other losers don't understand the whole story and to them, it was wrong. All they read was the "I got a thousand dollars worth of stuff for ten bucks from my friend!" and ignoring the "My friend said to keep the stuff.." parts. They probably dropped out of school, so you have to excuse them. No offense, but it had to be said. How else do you not understand a simple story?

BTW, what does your username stand for?

$1000

60 hours

$16 bucks an hour more or less. plus Internet acces, computer time.

Seems to me he worked for it.

I've been selling items for my eBay-impaired friends for years and all I ask for are the fees I get charged. Occasionally, someone will buy me a beer.

I think your firends are taking advantage of you. Your account, your feedback, your time. There should be a beer every time at least. LOL

Give it a break, guys. This was supposed to be us congratulating him, but instead some of you are being assholes and you are posting unneccesary posts. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.

Cmos, excellent find. Especially those nintendo powers. For some reason I like reading the letters to the ditors. :? "Dear NP, I can't wait for the Ultra 64! It's gonna be the most amazing system ever made!".

You or your friend was not ripped-off. You were both benefited. He got the cha-ching, and you got a SWEET haul.

I wish I had a job like that. :P

I don't understand why some have said that the feedback is somehow a bad thing. o_O What, the risk of a negative? I know that when I do auctions for people, the feedback is the biggest perk of it (since I don't ask for any money or anything). I'm happy to increase my feedback score, and I'm not worried at all about getting a negative or neutral from a dumbass buyer because the mass of positive feedback will far outweigh one or two suspicious negatives.

Those letters are so obviously fake. Read the letters out of the really old issues, they're even worse.

Not talking about eBay feedback. Talking about the feedback he is getting in here about his acquisition.

Cmosfm, you got an awsome deal and you know it, so don't worry about what people are saying here. Some are just taking the opportunity to get up on their high horse and chastise you; others are just jealous. You had an arrangement with the guy. You benefitted and so did he. If you hadn't done this for him, he would have hundreds of dollars less money and you wouldnt have any cool new shit. You know it and he knows it so it doesnt really matter what these people say.

See, I think that's where we differ. My account? So? My feedback? Awesome! More positives to rack up. I have no reason to worry about getting any negatives when I sell their stuff. The feedback's a perk. My time? If my car breaks down, they'll take the time to come pick me up. If I've just had surgery, they'll run errands for me. We help each other out without expecting tangible payment in return. That's what friends are for.

So no, I don't think I'm being taken advantage of, but thanks for your concern. More beer wouldn't hurt though ;)

Congrats Cmosfm! I admit i am a bit jealous of your find but not enough to get indignant. :D

And i have witnessed my fair share of people who have valuable items that simply sell it for less or give it away. Some people just dont have the time to properly sell what they have and they simply sell it to get it out of thier sight.

Same here. I do things like this for my friends all the time. Why? Because I can call one of them to leave work in the middle of the day and pick up my mother so she can be there when my son is born. Because when I need to move some really heavy stuff they show up to help. Because they don't expect $16/hr to do these things. Because friends do things like that for one another. I don't consider people who expect to be paid $16/hr to help me out with something to be friends, I consider them people who work for me.

Apparently that makes me a jealous, bitter, asshole idiot who dropped out of school. So be it.

Ok, from this point on, we won't be using the word "friend" when associated with the guy I was dealing with. We will use "Internet Aquaintance" because that is MUCH more suitable.

I guess whenever the word "friend" is used people assume there someone you grew up with and hang out with on weekends, Call when you need something (Chadtower), pick up when your car breaks down (Clubninja), etc.

Whereas the person I am talking about, I have talked to maybe...5 hours total throughout a period of a year...all broken up into IM conversations. Never even met the guy.

So, again, now that I have cleared that one up. We will use "internet aquaintance".

Changing? No Clarification? Yes. I'm sorry that I couldn't come in here in the very first place and make everything so 100% perfect that everyone would understand every tiny little detail about the story. I actually already explained this once a few pages back...I just came in here and said friend instead of "a guy I talk to everyone once in a while online".

Am I the only one who is also put off by you acting like an ass?

Dissenting opinion makes me an ass? Isn't that a step back from what I've already been called in this thread? Have I somehow improved?
