This is more for a friend, but I thought i'd post it here.

He just got his TGCD in the mail that the seller said had some problems, and he's right. It doesn't even load, the CD doesn't even spin :(

Is there any way to fix this? Would someone have to open it up and replace a part?

Any help would be great. Thanks :)

Does it power on?

Yep. I actually just got this in a trade, I was getting the TG-16 so might as well throw in the CD player ;)

I pop the 2.0 card in, power on and the main screen comes up. I hit the run button and it just sits at "Please Wait". Disc just sits there :(

Thanks for any help :)

It just stays on that main screen, never goes to the audio player screen? The same thing happens if you put the system card in a Turbo Express (hey, I was curious).

Check and make sure that you don't have any bent or dirty-looking pins on the giant TG16 backplane connector, as well as the CD player. Maybe it's just a bad connection.

Yeah, the connectors could be a problem. Plugging it in and out a few times could help.

If that didn't help I'd try the following (I'm not familiar with TGCD's but I'll throw in some guesses).

Take a look if you can find a detector for the lid open/closed mechanism. Don't know if TGCD's actually have these but on some consoles like Saturn these can brake/get out of alignment.
The second thing I'd check would be the spindle motor. See if it receives a voltage specified for the motor and if it does, you might want to try and change the motor with a similar type.

I was looking for that, I couldn't find the exact part to hold down, but the system did notice when I opened the door, it went from "Please wait" to "Close Lid". Although when I closed it afterwards it didn't go back to "Please wait"

I'll try the suggestions in just a bit and get back to you :)

Well, I made sure everything looked clean and unbent... no dice.

Altho when I turned it on once I think it worked for a second, I heard it working a little and when I took a CD out I noticed that the lazer had moved a little.

Oh, and I wouldn't really know how to go out about messing with the motor :(

I was just checking just pics of TGCD when I came across this:

Yeah, I know I should've checked it in the first place, Achika. :)
Anyways, it had some stuff I wasn't aware of.
