Yeah, if that's a legit Famicom, then my name's Captain Toot McToottoot.

Whats with those atari-style 9 pin controller ports? Is that what the Japanese Famicom had?

I may call you that from now on anyway. LOL

I'd be honored ;)

As for the 9-pin controllers, that's another giveaway of illegit goods here. As far as I recall, the real Famicoms had hardwired controls, though I'd be the first to admit that I don't know *that* much on the subject.

Yep, 100% pirate with a mario sticker on it...which was placed on it by someone...not by the makers of this thing. 3rd pic down, see how the stickers overlap the words "power" and "reset".

Pirate!

The original Famicom had a 15-pin port on the front for accessories. Almost all pirates use a "pirate-standard" DB9 plug. The Gameaxe even uses it and you can buy controllers with the DB9 connector at Lik-sang.com

What is Mario doing in that picture anyway? Looks like he's touching Peach's... LOL

Well, I think he's entitled! It's not like he hasn't done enough for her in the past! :)

Not too shabby looking as far as Famicom pirates go. At least the color scheme is similar. Without that sticker, I bet a lot of people would confuse it for the real deal.

The oldest home video game system I've seen from Nintendo was a stand a lone Japanese Breakout unit.. like a Pong only with breakout.. it was Yellow.

There was a standalone Duck Hunt game in the 70's, if I am not mistaken.

for all of you who love the NES and anything nintendo, I HIGHLY suggest reading the Book "Game Over. Press Start to Continue: The Maturing of Mario" by Daved Sheff.

Whatever you wanted to know history wise concerning nintendo... it's in that book. I am pretty sure they talk about the duck hunt thing and also the shooting ranges they set up in japan for them (or something like that). They also talk about nintendo playing cards (from way back in the day) and... just about everything. A good read

I've also read that they had some sort of clay pigeon shooting game in the 1970s...hmm. Wouldn't likely be a microchip game though...

Well, prior to making videogames, Nintendo had light sensor games (including an early version of Wild Gunman). Then, they licensed Magnavox's Odyssee for the Japanese market.

Then, they released the Color TV Game 4, basically a home Pong unit:

Now you know where that orange spice color for the GameCube came from!!!

For a summary of Nintendo's early history up to 1980 or so, see http://www.planetnintendo.com/nindb/1889.shtml

About the Duck Hunt game that Jorpho was referring to, here's the paragraph on this subject from Planetnintendo's page (see my previous post for the url):

Nintendo's toy department flourished, and Gunpei Yokoi became highly skilled at making electronic games. He suggested to Hiroshi that the light sensor technology could be used in new and exciting ways. He had in mind the abandoned Japanese bowling alleys when he created the Laser Clay Shooting System, where you would shoot the clay pigeons with the beam guns, causing them to crumble. A bad turn was narrowly averted at the opening ceremony of the first Laser Clay Shooting System, when lights from the press's cameras interfered with the light sensors. A new Nintendo employee named Genyo Takeda set off the targets manually as they were fired at. Thanks to him, the ranges got good press and went on to become a massive craze.

I've read it cover to cover about four times now LOL

Easily the best piece of literature I've ever read.

Now - if only there was a history of Sega that was as comprehensive as Game Over. :-P
