Ok, just just Jet grind Radio and the game won't get off the initial "Now Loading" screen. I hope my DC or the game isn't screwed up cause I'm not happy about possibly having to try to return another game to Gamestop...

Unless you haven't tried giving it a cleaning, then it's probably the game. A couple years back, I got a brand new Soul Calibur that would freeze every time it got to the versus screen before loading a match. I returned it, got a new new copy, and it was fine.

Have you tried playing another game, to make sure your DC is okay?

Try a few other games in the DC and make sure they work just to rule out a problem with the console itself. If after cleaning the Jet Grind Radio disc it still isn't working, return it for another one. For some reason Dreamcasts can be extremely picky.

Other games work fine, burned and store-bought. Even the ones outside the 2 with scratches ont he cds I've had no problems with before. :(

If your other games work fine, then like everyone else said, give your JGR a good cleaning, and if it still doesn't work, take it back.

I can't exchange SotB to the Gamestop I bought it at, I got the last copy. I gotta try to go to the one on Roxbury this weekend and try there. None the other Gamestop stores at Willowbrook have DC stuff now. :(

Good news; not only is that game awesome, it's really easy to find. I'd rate it with RE:CV and Shenmue as one of the most commond Dreamcast games.
If this is the first time this happened to you congratulations, I have had this happen with at least 6 or 7 discs, including a brand new, store bought THPS 2. I bought one of 9-9-99 Dreamcasts and it's not particularly reliable. Luckily I won another one in a contest.

Yeah I really hope they work after cleaning or else I'll have wasted my cash on coasters. :(
Early edition DC for me that I won.

I have a copy of REZ not working on my DC. I got it sealed, so the game is new, but my DC just has a lot of trouble loading it. I think I played it twice... tried loading it hundreds of times. I also just fixed the reset problem my DC was having. It kept resetting itself in games, in the menu... crazy. But I found this helpfull tutorial fixing the problem yesterday and it seems I got it working again. I love the DC, but it does have a lot of quirks.

Where'd you find this tutorial on the reset problem?

It's pretty easy to do and somehow it works...it saved me from buying a new DC.

Yeah, the Dreamcast can be a pain sometimes, but you gotta love it. I have a copy of tech romancer that refuses to load, I bought another used one and the same problem occurred (even after cleaning) Also, my first copy of skies of arcadia also refused to load.

My jet grind radio doesn't work either (used) or my atari anniversary (used). sucks because both those games look pretty good.
my other 12 or so games work flawlessly...don't know about backups believe me or not.

I heard from National Console Support that placing a Dreamcast on its side ala a PlayStation 2 can allieviate this problem in earlier models of the Dreamcast, particularly with Rez.
Of course, you could always just PM me and sell me your copy. ;)

Tried it to no luck. JGR still doesn't get past the loading screen and SotB still crashes. Money wasted. :(

I dunno, some Dreamcasts seem to be just fucky like that. My boyfriend has one that will not play Soul Calibur, he's tried at least 4 different copies of the game and none of them will play on his machine while every other game we own (plus burns) work fine.
Thank God Soul Calibur 2 came out. ;)

Ahhh...Sigh..the Dreamcast. I am on my 5th Dreamcast. I burned out the control ports on the first two and returned them to Gamestop(I found out that it was a faulty 3rd party controller causing it). Number three is still running but it needs a laser adjustment every once in awhile and it is real picky when it comes to GDROMS. Number 4 has a dead laser but I got it for $12 at Goodwill and Number 5 I just purchased on Ebay for $1 with $12 shipping that has bad ports but a good laser. So I hope to make a working machine out of 4 and 5.
All I can say is invest in a GameDR they have worked for me.
This link will take you to a good "HOW TO Repair DC" website.

One other thing to try is a boot disk. I have a Powerstone 2 that I need to boot off my Gameshark CDX to run (and no it is not a Japanese version it is US).
