View Full Version : Do you cut the tabs off of the tops of your SMS/genny cases?

i noticed that a lot of the sms and genesis games that i get in trades don't have the tabs on them. i decided to cut the tabs off of the rest of mine so that they all match, plus i can stack them up on the shelf nicer this way. just curious how many others do this.

I have some without tabs that I've gotten used, but when I get one with the tab I always leave it on.

No, that's just wrong.

Well, I have taken one or two off, but they were sega card boxes that had broken tabs. Slicing off the remainder of the broken bits just made it look nicer.

I've considered it, but I couldn't bring myself to cut it up :(

I thnk if I got one where the tab was hanging half off or something then i would finish the job, but any time I get one where it is still fully connected I leave it alone. It's all about keeping the box in original shape.

I leave 'em however I get them. I have some with and some without. Sadly, most of my Genesis games are loose, though. :/

I leave them if they have them. And if they don't have them I plan to replace them with nicer sport's game boxes in the future. Also I'm going to take a few of the games with nicer looking art work and hang them on my wall via the tabs, so they're actually pretty useful as well as "pretty".

I'll trade you a copy of a game without tabs for one with...assuming the rest is in good shape...and I won't charge you!

Sounds like a good deal...to...me... :o

I never cut the tabs off. I like keeping the box as close to origional condition as I can.

Nope, I leave them on. I dont think I have ever bought a PO Genny game, so all the games I have are games I originally owned from new, so all my games still have the tabs on them, and thats the way I'm keeping them. At this point, I'd stay away from a game that was missing the tab if i could help it and only get games that still have the tabs.

no way sir!!!

Maybe its just me, but i think the games look newer with the tab on LOL

Not that I find many Genny games in boxes anymore, but when I got them, I leave them on if they're there. I don't touch them. I too can't bring myself to do it.

Same. I prefer them with the tag, but if it doesn't have one I don't really care.

Yeah I'm not saying I would pass up a game if the hangy tag wasnt there, I'm just saying that I wouldnt remove it myself.

Ahahahaha, suckers! I scour every Genny clamshell I can find at the fleas and yard sales, every box that passes through my hands be it loaned or traded and slice those babies off. It's theraputic! Feels good! Like picking at scabs or scratching mosquito bites.

Nah.

A few of my Genesis clamshells still have the tabs on them, and a few don't. If they still have the tabs, I keep them on, unless they're close to falling off.

Heh heh.

I don't touch cases, ever, except to clean them up.

Funny thing is on my "boxed" copy of Sonic 2 (got in a lot) somebody's circled the part of the description where it says "capture the blah blah rings circles etc." and written "Been there done that" in bold marker :P

I cut mine off, but then sometimes I go hmmmm, I wonder what life would be like with my tabs still there......

After all the fun of fitting some cases with tabs into boxes, I've seriously thought about it. Don't think I'll ever go that far, really.

I bet you didn't have the late Mega Drive extra-special-cool boxes with a clip on the top like we did in Europe?

The clip will keep the tab folded so you stack all kinds of crap on top of your collection and it would still look nice and perfectly aligned. 8-) :P

I trim every one with a razor knife...most I find without tabs look like they've been chewed off. Besides, it's a tight fit in my custom-made Genesis shelves, and this keeps me from having to press down the tabs when I slide a game back into its slot.

THat's funny that you should bring this topic up, I have been thinking about that too.
I don't take my taps off, but have thought about doing it before. But decided to leave them ALL ON!

I keep them on, if I have case that are cut off, I replace them with one's that have them.

why cut them off? I dont, some have them some dont but all you gotta do is fold the tab into the top little concave, they are made to do that, no reason to vut them off.
