On Wednesday I stopped at Fye to look for some CDs because I forgot how incredibly overpriced they are. Luckily, I happened to look in their video game section because they had a number of budget Playstation games, some for only $4.99! I picked up Qix Neo and Sorcerer's Maze and I'm glad I did. Qix Neo is awesome (see the thread about it a few months ago) and Sorcerer's Maze is a cute Arkanoid clone, not great but well worth $5. There were others I wanted like Puzznic but they were still $9.99. Hopefully they'll be $4.99 soon.

Not long ago I got Tall: Infinity which is another a great puzzle game, and I think it was only $7 (these prices are all new BTW).

I also passed on one $4.99 game called Wild 9 or something like that, is it any good?

I should also mention that Sorcerer's Maze has some laughable Harry Potter style artwork that has nothing at all to do with the game (a la Mobile Light Force).

Wild 9 was a game released by Shiny during the twilight of their popularity. It didn't catch on the way their defining game, Earthworm Jim, had, although it had some interesting ideas. You could catch enemies with a coil of electricity, then drop them into a variety of painful deathtraps. In some cases, you NEEDED to do this to proceed... there was a pit of spikes in one round, and you had to drop the bad guys into it and use their remains as platforms.

I want to know more about Neo Qix. What's the deal with this game? Is it really just a Playstation version of the Genesis game Ultimate Qix? Have it been in any way enhanced?

Keir! Buddy! Pal! Wanna go shopping for me? LOL

I've gotta try to hit the stores soon and see if these kinds of deals are lurking in my neck of the woods.

@Jess: Ultimate Qix and Qix Neo are both ports of the arcade game Volfied. I couldn't tell you if there are any enhancements in the PS version.

@PDF: If you send me a list of what you want I'd be happy to check around here for you.

You can love some of these budget releases, but until you live through junk like ATV Mania, Miracle Space Race, and others, you really don't know the horror.

I got two from FYE: The Baldies (or is it Baddies?) and Qix Neo. I also got Puzznic for $9.99.

Budget PS1 games rock! I love... god help me... Sea Monkeys: The Game.

The last time I checked my local FYE, they had a ton of budget PSX games, but nothing under $9.99. And imo most of their stuff didn't look like it was worth the asking price. A lot of it would have been worth $4.99, though. I'll have to check soon to see if any of it has dropped in price.

If your FYE has used CD's, they have some pretty decent prices on used stuff. Although some of their used games tend to be a little overpriced.
I remember finding a used Go! Go! Hypergrind for GC for $45 a few weeks ago (I believe that retails around $20).

Having both Ultimate Qix and Qix Neo I can say that if you've got one, then you've pretty much got the other. Qix Neo is much easier to find now, since it's available in retail stores new and all. It's got some pretty menus and such, but the gameplay is unchanged.

As a collector, pick up Rascal Racers if you come across it, it's hard to find.

As a gamer, never EVER EVER EVER play this game.....EVER. it's the definition of "bland". I've never seen a game try so hard to be so plain ever in my life. Also, I wonder how you can circle around in a "Lap" when your driving in a straight squiggly line?

Good, because they're out of them at my FYE. But they still had them at FYE.com if anyone wants one.

I know, isn't it great? I've found some pretty decent PS1 games for $9.99 and $4.99 I think it is. Nothing awesome, but still some fun games.

LONG LIVE THE PS1, AND ALL IT'S CHEAP GAME GLORY! :)

I'd buy more, but I'm currently obsessed(sp?) with my Saturn.

EB Games recently POX'ed all of the new PS1 budget releases. The other day, I bought Puzznic, Air Hockey, and Cleopatra's Maze and with the 30% off if you buy 5 or more games, they each came out for under $7 each. I also got Culdcept for PS2 for $11.99, but that's another story for another day...

Also, Qix Neo qix @$$! I just wanted to add that because I felt it was appropriate...

I liked Gekioh Shooting King, and the Three Stooges was a pretty fun port. I recently picked up Shooter: Space Shot, but I haven't had the chance to test it out.
