This is the Euro PAL rom, for those of us used to the NTSC format the following Game Genie code plays the music at normal speed:

SZXVAPVT

FCE Ultra supports the use of the Game Genie.

Known as Hebereke in Japan with slightly different characters, the green fish is my favorite, he vomits egg bombs. EGG BOMBS.

Maybe it's because I played it way later after the NES was dead but this game doesn't live up to the hype that surrounded it, simply because it was never released in the US. Don't get me wrong, it's a fun game and the graphics & music are just fine. I've beaten it before but I will make another run through it as it's been a while.

Well I dont want to sound like a jerk but if this is the kind of crap that got released in Europe then I see why SMS was such a big hit over there. I hated this game.

Wow! This is a really fun game! It took me a while to figure out how to actually play, so for any other beginners, here's how it works: You can jump with A, and you can duck and crawl by holding down. If you hold down while you're in the air, you can bash enemies which either turns them into little round things that replenish your health, or into strange head things that you can pick up and throw by hitting B (You'll need this ability to beat the first "boss").

The whole point of the game is that you're trying to find your lost friends. As you find them (As usual, you have to beat them in a fight to get them to remember you.... sounds like a Japanese game to me), they will join you. You can press Select to go to the sub screen to change characters at any time. Each character has different abilities, so they're useful in different places. Also along the way, you'll find treasure chests that will contain items like a map, or new abilities for your characters.

If you see a flashing arrow on the screen, that's a hint that you should move in that direction... if you don't, you're probably heading into a dead-end that you aren't supposed to go to until you get a new character or ability or something. Luckily, there's also a password system, and unlimited continues to help you out.

My only complaint about the game so far is that trying to jump off of a rope is rather hit or miss... otherwise it's a very fun game!

This is an excellent game - too bad it wasn't released in the U.S. Sunsoft usually makes exceptional games, and this one is no different. Some of the characters and graphics are a little "out there" (like that thing that drools strong enough for your character to climb up), but I think that just adds to the general weirdness and charm of the game. I'd love to do a complete write-up about the game, but I haven't beaten it yet and I haven't had any time this week to play it. I am lucky in the fact that I do own a complete copy of the game and it works fine on an NTSC NES - I got it in a trade with a few other excellent PAL titles (New Ghostbusters 2 boxed, Championship Rally, and Super Mario/Tetris/World Cup) from a guy in England in exchange for a loose Sega Genesis 3 console. I think I made out pretty good, since Ufouria occasionally goes for insane prices on eBay (especially complete). It reminds me kind of a cross between Kirby's Adventure and Little Samson (which happen to be two of the elite sidescrolling action games on the NES). Maybe I can put in some good playing time tomorrow and write further about it. I just wanted to say something before it's replaced with the next game.

I thought the game sucked! I didnt like the controls, and how slow paced it was. I couldn't tolerate it for more then 5 minutes. I didn't get very far cause it annoyed me. How do you kill the enemys?

I wonder how many people just gave this game a try, and very quickly gave up because they couldn't figure this out. I almost did, but then decided I'd better figure out how to actually play the game before I dismiss it.

I almost did the same thing. I'm still not much of a fan of the game, but being able to kill the enemies was a definite improvement. :)
