Attention all MG Subscribers - Have you received #2 yet?

Just wanted to get a feel for what is going on with our mailing for issue #2. I still have not received my mailed copy, and I'm sure many of you are in the same boat.

Just to clarify a little: this is the first issue for which we have used a mailing house to do the mailing for us. The mags were ready to go on the 2nd of May, but due to a story that is too long to get into here, were not sent until the 8th. Now, I'd expect that if they were sent on the 8th that people should be receiving them by now.

If you are in the USA and have received it, please let us know. We need to determine what is going on so that we can speak with the mailing house to make sure this delay does not occur a second time.

Well, they aren't actually mailed from Ohio...but still. This is very aggrevating. I still haven't received mine yet either. I will be calling the mailer on Monday (again...).

Okay, I spoke with the mailing house. Apparantly it takes 7 to 14 days for people to receive the mag, as they were indeed mailed "periodical class." Like I said, this is all new to us also, so I apologize for the bumps and hurdles along the way. Hang tight though. It will be there soon!

I continue to scan the horizon for a glimps of rescue but so far nothing. Things are beginning to look bleak. Stranded as I am with nothing but issue #1 to keep me company. Maybe things will look better tomorrow, maybe salvation will arrive.

Well I'd been watching for the mailman (actually it turns out to be a mailwomen) all day. Through the window I saw her putting a magazine in the box. IT WAS HUGE! I read that issue 2 going to be larger, but the mag in her hand was bigger than I expected. I ran (well just kinda walked fast) to the box, opened it and ........... rats it was just my wife's Rolling Stone. Oh well maybe Monday.

As for the whole shipping issue, this would be my general take on it:

As people who have signed up for the free issue have received it in 3 to 4 days after putting through the form, I am going to assume that Jayson straightened out the shipping house...so issue three *should* go through a lot faster.

As far as I have heard, the shipping house moved out issue two at a media mail rate, which takes 7 to 14 days, or longer, which, from Jayson's own post on it, is *not* what he had signed up for.

So, again, with the people signing up for the free issue getting it so quickly, I am betting it's all been straightened out, and issue 3 will be getting to everyone a lot quicker. :)

Issue #3 is about to come out and I haven't even received #2! I had problems with the first issue as well. I hope this isn't going to to be the norm every month. :(

I just received mine in the mail today... Hopefully you guys are getting them all over now. I'm still a little upset about the whole mailing thing, but that's apparently what ya get when you go "standard rate." I did get an explanation from the mailer. I've included it below for your amusement. :)

The Manci Games mail was delivered to the Quincy Post Office on Saturday,
May 8, 2004. It was processed through the Quincy BMEU on Monday, May 10,
2004, delivered to the SCF Tallahassee FL facility, and as best as can be
ascertained, shipped and delivered to the BMC Jacksonville FL 32099 postal
facility by Tuesday, May 11, 2004. Once it arrived in Jacksonville, the
mail would have been broken down and distributed as per the sort performed
by TPH's mailing software. This sort consisted of 28 mail sacks of which 11
were to California destinations and the balance were Mixed BMC's sacks. The
CA sacks were routed to their destinations and the MXD BMC sacks were
opened, sorted, and routed by packages to their destinations. (The MXD JAX
FL sacks contained mail destined to all the other states.)
Standard Mail does not receive any special treatment as does First Class or
Periodical Mail. The Postal Service gives no time guarantee for the
delivery of this class of mail. They suggest that it will take 7 to 14 days
depending on the distance that the mail is to travel to get to its'
destination.
Mailing Services performed the best sort allowed by postal regulations to
insure the quickest and most effective handling by the Postal Service
through their system. Out of xxxxxxxxxxx pieces, xxxxxxxxxxxx qualified for automation and
possessed a delivery point bar code. This means that once a package arrived
to the designated destination prescribed by the Optional Endorsement Line
printed on the address line, the mail would then be sorted on a postal AFSM
100 Flat sorter, an automated process.
Once the mail is entered into the Quincy BMEU, the mailer does not have any
control over the delivery schedule of the mail. There may have been unknown circumstances such as high volumes of mail to be
processed at the time their mail was entered into the system that delayed
their mail from being processed. We have no
control over these events and the likelihood of the Quincy BMEU postal
personnel knowing of delivery gridlocks located further in the system is
unlikely.

Well, if you started with issue 2, you just got caught up in the shipping company's problems...so it's likely that issue 3 and past may come through quite smoothly. Jayson just posted something about how to get issue 2 if you've still not received it:

Once again, sorry about the delay. Mailing houses are fickle creatures and a certain amount of "lost issues" are to be expected."

Well, according the info I've gathered, the shipping co. was *not* supposed to ship the magazines out media mail...but they did. Now, as you may or may not know, media mail can take 7 to 14...to 21, and more, days to arrive. It wasn't what Jayson had requested.

Well, I think it's all been sorted out as people who have been ordering the free issue have been reporting that it's come in 3 to 4 days after ordering. This would make me think the shipping ordeal has been overcome and fixed. :)
