View Full Version : Weekend Finds 5/15 – 5/16

I'm running our neighborhood rummage sale this weekend (a great scam by the way...not much work, I get to pick the weekend that works best for me, the ads don't cost me a dime, and an ad featuring 40 houses brings in a helluva lot more customers than a single-house sale!), and a little pre-rummage, insider information shopping netted me my first rummage finds of the year...
Gameboy Color Mario Golf $2.00
N64 set-up with 4 Nintendo brand controllers, the expansion RAM pack and 12 cart-only games including Mario Party 1 & 2, Pokemon Stadium 1 & 2, Super Smash Bros. Donkey Kong 64, Super Mario 64, Paper Mario, Toy Story 2 and Clayfighter Sculptor's Cut!....all for $25.00
A like-new 13" cable-ready color TV with remote for $15.00. It will be perfect for use with the 2600 demo console I'm displaying at next weekend's Midwest Gaming Classic in WI.
And the frosting (or Foster's ;) ) on the cake is a big 4-color Foster's Lager neon (about 3-1/2 feet wide) in the shape of a boomerang...$50.00.
Not a bad start to the Wisconsin rummage season!

Adventure Island-NES-loose $1.00

A slow day at the yard sales.

Well, yesterday was the big Ham Radio fest' in Dayton, Ohio... I'm not a fan of ham radios, but my dad, his friend, and I Have been going for the last 3 years now as it's like a giant electronics flea market. Last year, I had some incredible finds (For me, anyways: 12 TG16 games, 4 TGCD games, a TG16 with multitap and 2 controllers, and a TGCD system for $40). THis year wasn't as good, but still great in my mind:
Open return platinum GCN controller: $5 (Works perfectly with only 1 small scuff on the back that I can easily get out)
Open return GCN-to-GBA cable: $3
Nintendo 64 Superpad (Sealed): $3
Zombies Ate My Neighbors (SNES, cart-only): $3
ActRaiser (SNES, cart-only): $3 (FOR TRADE)
N64 controller extension: $0.99
N64 "UltraRacer" controller (Sealed): $3.99
Odyssey I system, with 2 controllers, "1" cart, and TV hookup: $10
And what I thought was the best find...
Commodore moniter, model 1702: $25
EDIT: Forgot about Herzog Zwei, cart-only with a worn label for $4.

Wheel Of Fortune Jr. Edition
Classic Concentration
Dr. Mario

They tried to give me a TV too, it was an older TV, looked like it worked...but I have enough junk at home and didn't feel like lugging it with me. Seemed liek she just wanted to give her crap away, I coulda prolly got the NES for 5.00 if I wanted but I was too lazy to haggle

I did much better at garage sales today than in awhile. It took awhile, and I was almost ready to give up for the day, but then I found two garage sales right across from each other where I got:
Nes system with 2 contollers and with these games:
Tetris
Baseball Stars
John Elway Quarterback
Mike Tyson's Punch Out
Galaga
Kung Fu
Final Fantasy
All boxed and complete(except for Kung Fu which is missing the instructions) for a total of $13 :D
This is the 4th NES I own, I'm gonna sell it on ebay with some doubles.
I also got:
Shadow LCD game from Mcdonalds- .50
Donkey Kong Jr. game & watch- Free! 8-)
The lady told me it runs out of batteries so fast that I'd spend alot more on batteries than the game! So she just said take it!
A very nice GBA carrying Case- $3 It's very big and looks like you can fit a lot of games in it.
All in all, a great day!

No good garage sale finds, but found a garbage pile at my friends neighbors house. I got mad at my skateboard so I ran to the persons garbage and smashed something she had in the bag. I noticed a book sticking out after I ripped the hole, I had the book, How to Win at Nintendo games 2. SO I opend the bag and found "How to win at nintendo sports games", "ultimate guide to nintendo volume 3" or something. Then I thought maybe Ill find a nintendo, so I opened up the rest of the bags, got no nintendo, but got a bunch of TMNT toys, tons of warhammer stuff (to sell to my friend), a boxed dungeons and dragon game thing, and a videogames magazine. Im going to ask the person on monday if they have any old video game stuff or more TMNT stuff.

All in All I would say it was a great day. I went to about 50-60 sales and spent about $200 total. Got a ton of Ebaying stuff and got quite a bit of gaming goodness. I hope next week is as good. I don't know if I can afford it if it is. :D :D

I don't know where you go to garage sales, but I thought I did pretty well. Classic games are all but dried up around here because more and more people are looking for them. I Mostlyfind only NES and newer. I have gone to some neigborhood sales and only walked away with a few loose games. Most normal weeks I don't find anything.

Actually not many good garage sales around here either, I would just expect that you would have got a lot more going to taht many garage sales. A lot of kids see a nes at a garage sale and go sweet, i remember that, and buy it leaving me sad...

The mission was to go to the flea market and be back in time for my parents to go to church. WE passed about 8 garage sales but we had no time to go to them. Anyways story first. At the flea market a "black" guy was selling nes games for 5 bucks, none were worth more then 3. He had a lot of ps1 games too but I saw none that I knew were worth money, they may have had rare ones. Then I found a game genie, only game related item at the table, marked .50, got it for .25. Then the guy with the games, he was selling a box of nes, and a box of genesis, wanted $30 each box. I offered 45 total but he said 55. I didnt have that much. I offered 25 for the nes stuff but he said he couldnt go lower then $30. So I stood there going eh.... then stared into the box looking at the games, looked over at the genesis box saw nothing good so I was sticking to the nes box. I offered 28 bucks. He said he didnt have any singles, SO I said, how bout throw this resident evil game in to? He said deal. Heres what I got:
Game Genie
Nes system, 2 controllers, orange zapper, adapters and 21 games all sleeved:
Paperboy w/ instructions
Excitebike w/ instructions
Goal w/ instructions
Winter Games w/ instructions
Techmo BAseball w/ instructions
Baseball w/ instructions
Skate or Die

today i found a security guard ....
in my town a gamestop just opened next to the super walmart..
there are like 10 stores all connected together that connect to the super walmart..
i figured i'd drive around back and see if i could see the Gamestop dumpster...figured it could possibly be open... maybe have something in it..
so i drove around behind all the stores and i turned a corner and saw where alot of trash has been bundled up and so i figured the road was blocked so i started turning around to leave, and a security guard drove up about 15 yards away. So then i looked guilty of trying to do something back there, which i guess in a way i was..
I was just glad the security guard didnt drive over there say something.

It's about a 40 mile drive to the Mesa store for me. One time me and my friend Nez took about a 100 something mile trip down to Tucson to check out three of the other stores and I've seen them carry HORDES, I mean 100+ megadrives games, Neo Geo Aes and MVS games, Vectrex boxed games, Turbografx stuff. Pretty much the best place to check out if you're looking for slightly harder to find games for certain systems. They are kind of expensive though.

rain put a stop to my sunday flea market run so i just had the usual saturday flea. i've been going to this place for so long and so faithfuly that once in a while it pays off, sorta. the couple who run the flea market are these sorta sanford and son characters, making matters worse the woman "runs" a video game booth inside the building, which she never opens. she's too lazy to open her booth and too clueless to ebay so she just hoards up all the games and systems she can grab. drives me nuts to see her storage area just towering with untouched games but what can i do, its her flea. so i'm out on the trying to find some games when her husband, this crazy ol half blind fat daddy type motions me over to a table. "hey, hey this guys got some a your thing here". it was a huge vaccum cleaner box full of games and systems, snes, genesis, sms, nes, game gear, sega cd and probably more. it was packed so tight with cased games i couldnt even get to the bottom of it. then they give me the hustle "i want $125 for the whole lot" and then "if you dont buy it off him i will". doesnt matter to me, i never bring more than $40 with me anyways. so the lot owner starts peeling off twenties to the guy, i just grabbed the three best things i could see near the top and threw a twenty of my own in. "you can have those two things but i'm keeping this, its for an xbox"
so i walked off with a model 1 lynx (cali games inside) and SNES chrono trigger.."xbox" item - a neo geo memorey card :o
all weekend i've been bothered by what else was in that box that i could have had, i know i saw lots of rpg stuff and there had to me neo stuff in there, ah well off it went to his wifes storage space, like the warehouse at the end of raiders of the lost ark.
