View Full Version : What would you name your arcade?

Some of you may remember the "Running an arcade...." topic I posted about a month or two ago, and it spawned a lot of great conversation. Anyway, after all that, I'm still deciding, but I'm pretty sure it's something I want to try and do at some point in the future.. hopefully the near future. With that said, I've been mulling over names and identities myself, and the only one that's stuck with me is:
Insert Coin: ___________ <- subtitle perhaps.. maybe not.
I think that's good in some ways and not quite so great in others (although the quick mock-up logos I made for that name turned out pretty well). So my question is: what would you name your arcade if you were to open one?

I'd probably name it Game Rave, like my web-site. :)
Though, truth be told, I did a business class project where I had to actually scout out an available building and do all the background info to start up a a business.
It was a two floor building with a cool enough layout to support an arcade. My business name? Level 2 Arcade. :)

Lemme see...an arcade loaded with vintage 70s and 80s goodness and maybe a small smattering of the 90s? Hmmmm. Something related to video games and to relics...or maybe archaeology. Wait! I've got it! I could call it "Pho ++++CARRIER LOST
Alternately, I could reach back in time and borrow the name of the best of the local non-chain arcades ever in this city, Fantasy Station. I'd also like to reach back in time to borrow their Gyruss machine. Thank you.

To me "Insert Coin" is a bit broad. Insert Coin into what? If that's the reaction you are going for though then maybe it's a good thing. I just think it needs more definition.
Maybe something like The Retro Arcade.

Yeah... that's basically what I was thinking, although I didn't know how to put it down in words. Why I left the blank for the subtitle. I don't know though... I'm sure something will eventually stick.. I've just drawn a blank on this one thus far. Guess I'm getting burnt out on that whole being creative thing.
How about "Insert Coin Here?" LOL

First off, I think insert coin is a great name all by itself, I mean really, whats the first thing you think of when you hear or see the words insert coin???
As for me, a buddy and I were going to open an arcade in the late 80's,
and we were going to call it "Fair Game". @_@

I always thought that would be a great name for a videogame store or arcade.
The "Pennies From Heaven" Video Game Arcade

I'd call mine "Over the Rainbow". When I was a kid watching the Wizard of Oz, that song by Dorothy always got me thinking about some mythical arcade out there somewhere that had games so incredible that they were beyond my wildest imaginations.

That's an awesome name! The Aladdin's Castle people would probably have a problem with it., though.
I'd like an arcade (or a game store) filled with nothing but old stuff and call it "16-Bit Revolution" Named after an old print ad I found amusing.

I would call it "1-up" because It would be 1 up above the rest of the arcades.
I would have all the classics along with the hot new stuff like every bemani game and all the huge cabs and simulators.

DHeh. I love that. It's a play on that Alan Parson's Project song (http://www.absolutelyric.com/a/view/Alan_Parsons_Project/Games_People_Play/), but I think the author of this book (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0671580019/104-3430171-8528736?v=glance) would have something to say. Not to mention the people in the movie (http://movies.yahoo.com/shop?d=hv&cf=info&id=1808544964)... Also the creator of the TV show (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080222/). LOL

If it were me I'd use the name "Zappers." It's the name of the arcade I used to go to back in the 80s/90s.
So for you I suggest doing something similar. Find some names of some 80s arcades and either use one directly or just tweak it a bit. But a good nostalgic sounding name should go well with your nostalgic arcade (IMO anyway).

I'm still kicking around some stuff, but that's the quick mock-up logo I did for Insert Coin. I like it, it's simple, and it would work well for everything (from signs and billboards to business cards) but I think it could be tweaked a bit more. Not a bad start for a 20 minute slop together job though.

Retrobait
Implying that within these walls are old-school games that will hook you.
This has no connection to the possible implication that you will meet attractive underaged females who also like playing old school games. (ie., jailbait)

Sorry for posting twice. A local arcade was actually called The Hole. It's long since gone now. In fact the last arcade withing an hour from me burned down last year. Not too many left.

[Warning: Cheap jokes ahead!]
Microsoft (People will come whether they like it or not. Only because to them, it's the only arcade.)
Sony PlayStation (All their friends go there. They say it's good. Of course, you'll have to rebrand all the machines to be Sony's. Sony Computer Entertainment Presents Mario Bros.)
