Poll:Hentai and Porn ads make no sense to be on rom sites?

I tell everyone here that they are some of the most annoying things ever concieved online I have no idea why this is such a common combo , anime porn or hentai while your looking for roms. I cant tell you how annoying im plainly looking for a columns rom only to see sailor saturns chest the 3679th time in 7 different popups at a time its irritating. Do they think that every single nerd is gonna click on some anime porn , or is a perverted anime otaku? or people who want roms usually visit abundance of porn sites time to time?

Well if you don't want to be bothered by all of those annoying porn ads and popups then why not try a new browser that blocks them for you? I use Firefox (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/) and haven't been bothered by annoying ads or popups in ages.

I believe they think the hentai and porn popups would get more attention from the average rom downloader than say help with mortgage popups. Makes sense to me.

I agree. They must figure that folks who go hunting for ROMs are also interested in porn and hentai.

I think porn ads are just easy to get. I can tell you from running a moderately popular rom site though, that having them ad free just isn't an option. (Unless like me, you slept with a guy with his own T3 line) And the only thing that attracts more vistors then free games is porn. So they do have their similarities.

It's been that way for the longest time. Chances are that if you're visiting a ROM site with a lot of pornographic pop-ups, or forced voting, you're probably not going to get what you wanted anyway. You'll be strung along, forced to click this, and that, and the other thing, until you reach the ROM page, which has a whopping fifteen games or even nothing at all. Screw that! You ought to visit the more honest sites instead, like Planet Emu (http://www.planetemu.net). Use FileMirrors, too, if you know the name of the file you need but just can't find a place to download it.

Well, what other industries are going to sponsor illegal warez? Heh. And roughly 9 out of 9 ROM sites are links to other "hot ROM sites". Which are also just a page of links. It's really, really dumb. Just stick to IRC. ;-)

There are a few reasons for this, in my opinion:

1. Rom sites aren't selling anything, so they have to put ads on their sites if they want to make money.
2. Porn ads pay sites a lot. Especially for popups, I think... I'm not sure. I wouldn't know how to check, but with so many of them, I'm pretty sure about this.
3. There is a close relation between gamers, okatus, and people that don't get laid much who would like porn.

If you really want to get ROMs without being bombarded by porn ads, go to CoolROM (http://www.coolrom.com/). Forced voting on the download page, though. The selection is a bit limited, too, but a good site overall.

I would think seeing how roms are a grey area, or illegal to the minds of some, pairing it up with something just as grey, so to speak, would make sense. Or maybe that's just me.

Why are you guys using sites, anyway? Something like newsgroups or the edonkey network is much, much simpler and you don't get any ads, voting, or bullshit.

Anyone who isn't using a browser than blocks pop ups should seriously consider upgrading. Even IE has the capability.

Your first problem is you're looking for roms on the Web. There are far better sources that don't force you to download them one at a time for example.. try usenet or even torrents.

You also have to remember, that those ads are what pays for the website, and makes it FREE for us

I post at a ROM board and the site's webmaster says the ads help a lot with keeping the site up.
