This game is great! Everyone touts the 7 games that are on this game (Sonic 1,2,3, Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic 3D blast, Sonic Spinball, and Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine), but what you don't hear is that there are 5 unlockable games on this great disc. What are they you ask? I don't know yet, I just got the game, and forgot to bring my memory card, so I probably won't know for awhile.
As for features, there are a lot of great ones. whether more can be unlocked, I don't know, but here's what's available when you first start the game up.
Sonic Comics: These were printed by Archie Comics (yeah, I know). It has an introduction to the comics, and then the first special issue reprinted in its entirety (27 pages). then, it has images of the covers for all of the issues (1-110), and the covers for Knuckles the Echidna (1-32), the Sonic Super special series (1-5), and other series (Sonic Live, Sonic Blast, Tails, Princess Sally, etc.). these pages are high resolution and zoomable.
Illustrations: stock illustrations that we've all seen before of all the characters. there's one character that I've never seen before, a bunny of some sort...
Movies: The intro and ending animated sequences to Sonic CD are on here, as is footage of Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, Sonic Advance, and a visual history of Sonic, which is pretty cool.
Instruction Manuals: The original Genesis Manuals for the 7 open games are also included in the same high resolution zoomable viewing mode as the comics.
Each game is prefaced by an introduction of the game and its place in the lexicon and history of Sonic and the Industry, as well as a shortcut to the Instruction Manual for that game.
As for the emulation, it's spot on in all the available games. If there were such a thing as blast processing, then the gamecube would have it in spades. The best thing is that the very nature of sonic's movement (and the loose feel of the genny d pad) means that controlling old school sonic with the analog joystick is just as enjoyable and natural as controlling him with a d pad.
I highly recommend this game. Er, when it comes out that is, which I think is on the 12th.
