I'm sure that thsi has been talked about before, but I was just reading some others' "Finds of the Year" and thought that everyone could just throw their great, rare (either a personal rarity -- a game that you have been looking for for ages, or a book-rarity -- one that is generally accepted to be rare) finds in the wild here.

Personally, I have had a shitty year for rare finds, and the only thing that can fit into this categary for me is PSX Terry Pratchett's Discworld (R5) which I have not been able to find anywhere (and I wanted it) and is one of the rarer items in my collection (my collection is filled with commons mainly...)

WHAT ABOUT YOUS?

I have found several unique items here in the Seattle. The most facinating being the 2 Intellvision Computers (Original Master Components) I found along with all the Software (shrinkwrapped) for them. A coupel of protos have been unearthed here as well. This area used to be the area to shop... not anymore :(

Damn I really want a complete zapper gun, actually. I also want a complete NES advantage if anyone wants to sell either of those items...

Anyways, in the last month, I have found a complete copy of Namco Ms. Pac-Man for NES which is an R7, and a copy of Qix for NES (loose) which is also an R7. Several years ago I got a complete copy of Tengen Tetris for NES for about $4 from a mom and pop used game store. Thats an R6. I have pretty good luck with thrift stores around here though due to little or no competition.

Probably the best thing I've found this year is a complete mint copy of Miner 2049er for the Atari 2600 at an estate auction. Not terribly rare, but I guess it's hard to come by in complete form.

Puzznic - NES

Going by the DP rarity guide:

Arcade Smash Hits (SMS) - boxed, free (R5)
Guilty Gear (PSX) - complete, $12.00 AU (R7)
Outrun 2019 (SMD) - boxed, $6.00 AU (R5)
World Champ (NES) - cart. only, $2.00 AU (R5)

I would also consider Guilty Gear X (PS2) a rarity and I'd like to see what rarity ranking DP considers it to be (I picked this up complete for $30 AU) :D

I also have Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (DC) which is an R6, but I paid dearly for that one ($50 AU).

I am STILL kicking myself in the ass when it comes to this game... I had this thing complete (got it at a video store a while back before I was really into gaming) and then tried to play it, hated it witha passion (I dont really like the FMV-ish games) and then threw it up on eBay and sold it for some piddly amount (just got back what little I paid for it) and now that I realize its true value, I repeatedly kick myself in the ass..... :smash:

I've found a couple of R7s and R8s in the wild. These are off the top of my head:

Psychic Detective (PSX - R8 - complete, $5.99 at EB)
Streets of Rage 2 (SMS - R8 - boxed, $10 at PC5)
Flintstones: SADP (NES- R7 - loose, $4.99 at GS)
Namco Ms. Pac-Man (NES - R7 - boxed, $14.99 at GS)
Namco Pac-Man (NES - R7 - complete, $12.99 at GS)

I may have one or two more, but not sure at the moment. I've also found a ton of great R5 and R6 stuff for NES in the wild (Bubble Bobble 2, Bonk's Adventure, Cowboy Kid boxed, all the Dragon Warriors a few complete, Jungle Book complete, Little Samson, Mario's Time Machine, Panic Restuarant, Race America, Snow Brothers, etc.).

I found a loose Zero The Kamikaze Squirrel for SNES (R7) for $5 at a CD/Game Exchange a few months ago. I got a loose Dino City for SNES (R6) at a Gamestop for $2.99 back in February. Last month, I found a loose Joshua: The Battle Of Jericho for Genesis (R7) at a Software Etc. for 63 cents. It was mismarked as "Cal Ripken Jr. Baseball" for 89 cents. Hurray for 30% discounts. :D

Another favorite of mine was finding Mr. Do! loose for SNES for $1. It's only an R4, but according to DP, it's worth $15. :)

Almost all of my games have come from the wild, minus a few eBay ones here and there. Id say that 95%+ were plucked from the wild, and a fair share of them have been new too. Only thing thats kinda sucky is that many of the rares even though they are like an R6 or R7 are still not all that expensive, thye are just impossible to find.

Favorite PSX in the wild rares include:

Adventures of Lomax (R6)
Bust-A-Groove 2 (R6)
Caesars Palace (R6)
Fox Hunt (R8)
Guilty Gear (R7)
Intelligent Qube (R5+)
Micro Machines V3 (R7+)
MotorTune Grand Prix (R7+)
Psychic Force (R7)
RayStorm (R7)
Silent Bomber (R5+) A personal favorite
Speed Racer (R7)
Spot Goes to Hollywood (R7)
Street Fighter Collection 2 (R6)
Tail Of The Sun (R7)
True Pinball (R7)
X-Com UFO defense (R7)

Hrm...

The 1951 United shuffle bowler I bought in the fall at an antique shop. There can't be more than a couple hundred working units of that age left and there may be a lot less.

The Gottleib Rack 'Em Up pinball machine I just bought on saturday at a yard sale. Less than 1700 manufactured and I'd bet only a quarter of them still exist.

Four NIB LaserActive TG16 modules at a Building 19.

I've found quite a few lab hardware protos for the TI99 as well as tons of homebrewed or TI internal games/software. Things like mocked up switchable power supplies that power multiple TI99s from a single outlet. I live right near a TI facility. I also have a big stack of internal memos/catalogs for TI employees like price lists for TI employees, internal TI TI99 newsletters, hell I even have some guy's benefits statement that was in a TI99 box I bought.

Damn I really want a complete zapper gun, actually. I also want a complete NES advantage if anyone wants to sell either of those items....

Recently on eBay there was a complete NES action set with Zapper and everything, pretty mint in box. Everyting was even still in the bags. It went with a BIN or 99.99. What is something like that worth?

captain nintendo
05-19-2004, 12:43 PM
Depends on what NES set your talking about. If you are talking about the Action set with zapper , it normally goes for about 50 - 60 dollars.

If you are talking about individual pricing it goes around this normally.. ;)

Boxed zapper 18 dollars
Boxed Advantage 15 dollars
boxed controllers 12 - 15 dollars
boxed NES sets go for different prices depending on the set.

control deck set...... 40 dollars
Challenge set ....... 45 - 60 dollars
action set ........ 50 - 60 dollars
power set ....... 60 - 80 dollars
deluxe set ...... 70 - 110 dollars
I have not seen that many sport sets on ebay :o

Of course those are all ebay prices I have seen them go up and down alot.
But that is a rough estimate for you. ;)

Well, the rarest thing I actually bought was a Genesis Action 52, which I sold to Mr. Joe DP. Hope you enjoyed that, btw. :P

The rarest thing I did NOT buy was potentially a copy of the Starfox Competition cart. It was in a dark corner of a case at GameStop and I just shrugged it off, but the label definitely was NOT the usual one... Wow, I really hope it wasn't the weekend cart. Damn. :eek 2:

[my first DP post]

I've had a few rare finds recently. I found a box at the local flea market that had Crazy Climber and Dice Puzzle for the Atari 2600 in it that I got for $5.

I got a Colecovision with Word Feud (R7) Sir Lancelot (R6) and Quest For Quintana Roo as well as a bunch of others for $30 at a local garage sale.

Today I got Dragon Force for Sega Saturn at the local thrift store for 3.99.

And a few months ago, my sister got Mario's Cement factory /w box at a garage sale for $2. She sold it for 120 bucks on ebay.

I have one sitting on thelf that came with a bunch of other PSX games..Large Box version..
I don't know if i came in a DC case ..that's why I added that.

What is the rarest item you have found in the wild?

I'd say ...
My Virtual Boy Display Unit..
Two Sealed Nintendo Stack Ups sets.
Bath Bubble Babes.... sealed but I opened it to be sure of it's contents.

Plus maybe a few other thngs I don't know are that rare in the piles of gaming stuff I own..

I have two used copies of that game and both were in complete shit states. It seems i can never find that game with a manual to go with it.

Umm as for games i don't know i got a lot of semi (4-6 games) rare games so i'd say.

Some complete nes games i found

I think my best would only be an R5. Intelligent Qube for the PS1. Found at EBgames in a blister pack with Coolboarders 3and a memory card for $20. Not a super deal but I had been looking for the game for months and was afraid I was going to end up spending $60 or more on eBay to get it.

I was at a flea market once and bought a box with 29 Atari 2600 games, all were still new and shrinkwrapped except 5, which were complete. I paid $100 for it and got the entire Avalon Hill library for the 2600, all of them were still new and sealed except Shuttle Orbiter. Aside from the Avalon Hill's the rest of the games were all commons, multiple pac mans, froggers, etc.

Everyone's been mentioning rare games, but my only really rare find in the wild was a Japanese limited edition RE3 air pistol. It was a promo they did for Biohazard 3 Nemesis--an airgun replica of the "Samurai Edge" Beretta M92 that Jill uses at the beginning of the game. I don't know how much it's worth but, jeez, it's cool to have. It's got the S.T.A.R.S. logo and the Kendo gun shop logo and everything.

SNES-
Pac-In Time is the most rare I own. A number of R5's, but thats as high as it goes.
Genesis-
Warrior of Rome 2. Lots of R5's, but still no better then a single R6.
NES-
Conflict. While its just an R4, my nes colection is still quite small at less then 14 titles.
DC-
Despite loving the system, Tee Off at R5 is the most rare I have. Then again, as there are only one game listed as being higher then R5, I dont feel so bad about it.
PS1-
A few R5s. Somewhat surprised by this as they aint the most expensive things in my colection.
Basicly, I dont own much rare stuff. While I'd like to call myself a game colector, I guess I cant as most of the games I own are games I own because I want them to play. Most of the rare games I just cant bring myself to want as they are games I find to be lacking.
