I finally got off my duff and purchased a new case to complete my mame pc that will live in a Top Speed cabinet that I am modifying for my kids and me.

Specs are:

abit kg7
amd athlon 1.4 (not xp) FSB 133
256mb crucial and 256mb kingston pc2100 ddr ram, total of 512
voodoo3 3000 - 16 meg w/ TV out (s-video out to a 20" Flat Screen Philips with s-video in)
sound blaster live (still need speakers)
d-link ethernet card
10 gig IBM Deskstar 7200 rpm (my old HD - big enough for a lean mame box)
54X CD Rom Drive

Not a bad kit for everything being my old parts and my buddies’ old parts that he sold me super cheap.

And here’s the case I put it in (seriously, I am into this case)

LOL

The cabinet I picked up for $100 that was in my neighbor’s backyard (my son gets credit for spying this and getting me hooked up). It was a dead cab with some bad wood that I have since replaced and have been making modifications too accommodate the above mentioned hardware and a dual X-Arcade

That could be the greatest computer case ever. LOL LOL

Sounds like a cool setup, I need to get off my dead ass and do this as well...it's been a goal for about 3 years now.

That is a great case. If there was one with Totoro, I'd snap it up in a minute. Of course, my new computer has lots of cool lights and colors (especially on one of the fans), so I'm happy.

I'm also looking forward to finally collecting the entire MAME library, now that I have enough space (120GB).

I almost got the dog case because I liked the brighter color but stuck with my original choice of the cat which I had previously seen in yellow and white but is now impossible to find so I had to go with the silver. :D

Maybe this is a really stupid question, but where does one go to get MAME roms? I downloaded some off of a file sharing program (OK I downloaded a couple thousand actually) but they are all the old ones, which is good, but I would like to start collecting some of the newer ROMS and I have no idea where to get them.

Just keep searching and hopefully you'll find them.

That kitty is awesome. LOL
I'm a bit surprised I haven't seen a similar design Hello Kitty ones yet. Hell, I can buy a Hello Kitty frying pan and toaster but no PC case? That's just wrong. :(

If you feel like throwing in $30, you can get all the MAME you want from http://edgeemu.com. They don't keep super-new roms there for obvious legal issues, but all roms on there are up to date with the MAME rom set. They also have other roms/isos, so your $30 shouldn't go to waste.

While I don't have a lot to say about the actual topic at hand...I wonder how many new Linux boxes are going to be put into that Penguin case up there?

Newsgroups and file sharing programs are the two best places for snagging them for free.

Great setup and even cooler looking case. Where'd you snag it?

After looking around froogle.com and pricewatch.com i ended up buying the case from http://www.amamax.com/csnkoa101silvrkitty.html. Free shipping!

I got it wired into the internet yesterday and made all the neccessary upgrades and patches to the OS, tweaked the emu's to run on the tv and it is running sweet! Plus I have a wireless keyboard/mouse on the way from overstock.com to make using the emu box easier once it's placed inside the arcade cabinet. And I think i'll replace that old voodoo card first chance I get with an ATI card but for now it's running 800x600 thru the tv out very well and games look and play fantastic.

Oh yeah one other thing. I was able to get sound from the sound card to the tv with one of these Y- adapter audio cables from radio shack. http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5F007%5F002%5F003%5F009&product%5Fid=42%2D2551

A simple solution until I find some speakers to build into the arcade cabinet.
