I have been wanting to get into emulation for a while. Well I have a Spare Dreamcast and a spare Xbox and I am wondering which is better for eumlation? I tried to burn a Emu for my dreamcast a while back and failed. Now that I have 2 Xboxes I am wondering if I should bypass the DC Emus and just move on to the Xbox? Any suggestions?

I'm afraid I can't provide any info on X-Box emulation, but I've been playing emulators on my Dreamcast for years now. What was it about your attempt that failed? What emulator were you trying to use, what program did you try to burn it with, and so forth?

Anyways, the best advice I can provide is to point you to Sbiffy (http://www.sbiffy.com). Go there and get a program called "Selfboot Inducer", as well as some .sbi files for whatever emulators you want to try out. Using that, you should be able to easily create selfbooting discs for the Dreamcast with multiple emulators on the disc itself. If you're STILL getting coasters, try switching between DAO/TAO mode (I can't remember which is the preferred, but if it's not working in one mode, then try the other) in your CD burning software, as that seems to be a solution for some picky CD burners.

I burned most of the DC emulators with Nero and never had too many problems other than my first try or 2. I don't have an X-Box but it's suppose to have better emulation for a few systems like Mame and Snes. I only just use DC for NES emulation myself.

Right you are Ken.

The Xbox handles some of the newer emulators better, but the Dreamcast isn't bad. The other advantage to the xbox is that is has a hard drive, so roms can be copied to and from the system. The disadvantage is that it has to be modded, where the Dreamcast doesn't.

I still play DC and it's emulators. It's excellent 5200 and NES emulators are the mainstay in my computer room (My xbox is in the Bedroom :P) But which is better? This is a very simple question and I'm going to give you the correct answer: Xbox is far and away the better emulator machine and it's not even close. Once you've seen it and given it a try, it's just a given that everyone here who has previous Dreamcast experience would agree.

And of course naturally this is the case.. because b.s. arguments aside, the Xbox is just simply more powerful. The hard drive doesn't hurt either.

I'm sure as more powerful platforms come out, the emu's will follow in one form or another. But that's the future, and this is now. And for the past 2 years and now in May 2004 when it comes to emulators on a console, the Xbox is far better. But why limit yourself. Do both :P Unlike the Xbox, you don't have to mod your Dreamcast that's for sure ;)

Your problem could be either bad cds or your burner. How is it when you burn data cds?
