View Full Version : What do I do about getting sold a bootleg?

I was sold a bootleg DVD on Ebay. It didn't mention that it was a bootleg on the auction listing. I know this is illegal, but navigating Ebay's policies is like the search for weapons of mass distruction... virtually impossible!

So, what do I do? The seller is refusing to talk except to threaten me with negative feedback if I report him. I don't give a shit about that, so what can I do?

How did you pay? If you paid with paypal, can't you complain to them as well?

What kind of bootleg was it by the way? DVD-R of a popular movie or Hong Kong bootleg?

DVD R of a popular movie. Highly illegal.

It's not like you'll ever find any weapons of mass destructions assuming there ever were any to begin with.

Seriously though maybe you could file something with the post office or something.

If you have been to the theater lately. They have a preview on the making of movies and blah blah blah....but it is about the people to download and pirate movies. I believe there is a number, you could get this dude into some pretty big shit. Because downloading and watching them is one thing. But selling pirated stuff.....the dudes pretty brave. Anyway...there is my 2 bits.

It seems to me like you could really get this guy busted. Obvously you could get him in trouble with eBay, but selling bootlegs is obviously illegal and I'll bet that mailing them across state lines is another crime. If I were you I would make him aware of this and see if he doesnt change his tune about giving you a refund.

Well appearntly this happens pretty often on Ebay. But the guy did change his tune and I was refunded in full. Thankfully, having gone and seen Troy (*shudder* what the hell was I thinking?), I saw the website where you can report movie piracy during the sneak previews. Regardless of a refund or not, he's in deep shit.

Ahahah! Oh man that's great. Asshole deserves it. I swear. Anyone who openly sells you something illegal and then threatens to give you negative feedback deserves to get busted. Dumbass.
