I'm doing some rearranging on my web site's game list and was gonna separate Controllers into their own category. But I am just curious... would little old R.O.B. count as a controller? Or just an accessory?

I know he can USE the controller, but that would make hime more of a player. Since he watches the screen and reacts accordingly by pressing buttons. No more a controller than a human is.

So I'm leaning more towards "No". R.O.B. is not a controller. But wanted to get some input.

In the computer world, we call controllers and other input and/or output devices "peripherals". That way, we don't have to categorize them separately.

As Yakov Smirfnov would put it, "In Soviet Russia, ROB controls YOU!"

I generally wouldn't classify ROB as a controller, since it actually controls the action in the game independantly of the player. Fortunately, you can just as easily plug in a second controller and play Gyromite without ROB's interference... just press directions on the second joypad to remove the obstructions in your way.

I wish I had one of those things, by the way... they're kind of cute, in a Johnny 5 sort of way.

Robots rule. I was at a convention today with a walking talking robot. We made plans to hang out tomorrow.

ROB, sadly, sits at home on the shelf. I VOTE, no he is NOT a controller. It's a close call, but I say no sucka!
