Well here is the question first. Do you remove a price tag on a box?
Personally while I don't own one I think it would be cool too own a 3DO with the $700 price tag on it. I think it shows its place in history. I bought my Genesis for $150 I don't have the box anymore but I wish I did and I wish I had the price tag on it. What got me thinking about this is how much I hate price tags on my new systems and games. I wondering now if maybe I shouldn't take them off as much as I hate them now I might like them later on.

The only price tag I've left on anything is a $99 Best Electronics tag on my US SNES Sunset Riders. I can't honestly believe anyone ever paid that, though (I got it for £3, I think ;) )

There's a topic or 2 somethere in Restoration on removing price stickers. Goo Gone works best.
Depends. If it's a new game and it has a small, discreet price tag I usually keep it. It's fun to see how much the game cost a few years down the line (and maybee remember the store as well). Several of my C64 games for example has price tags from stores that now has gone bankrupt, been renamed or bought by another chain and doesn't exists today.
However huge, generic price stickers are removed. I hate it when stores that has a few old games for sale plaster these thick stickers all over old nes (or other cardboard) boxes, it's hard to remove them without damaging the box.

I don't buy many new games any more. If I do, I buy them to play, which means I have to take off the shrinkwrap anyway.
If I find a retro game/accessory with a tag on it, I leave it on for two reasons.
1) The "memorabilia" aspect.
2) Removing a tag that old could do significant damage to the box.

I do, and I don't.
If I scan a box for my site, I digitally remove the price tag.
Meanwhile, outside of the computer world, where I'm not wearing glowy blue tights and throwing frisbees o' doom, the price tags stay on. LOL

I cant recall any occasions when ive bought a game or console and its had the original price sticker on it. Except my n64, but that was last week and i only keep them there coz it was a pretty good deal ($3 AUD from Target).
Pawn shop and game store stickers always go. A Mega Drive Virtua Racing with the original super expensive price sticker would be pretty cool though :P

It depends for me. If I got the game used, the sticker is removed. However, I used to buy a lot of games new like my SNES games. These games I only cut just enough of the shrinkwrap to open one flap of the box to remove the game, so I keep the tags on those boxes with the shrinkwrap still on them. It was pretty shocking to find that I paid $80 for FF3 way back in the day. :eek 2:

I have one game that's sealed w/ shrinkwrap that I kept the tag on because it was neat to see what Fantasy Zone on the TG-16 went for back in the day. Also funny because the tag says "Montgomery Ward". I don't even think we have that store around here anymore.

I don't usually keep price tags on games unless it's something interesting in that "moment in time" way. Like an Atari 2600 game with a $40 original price tag on it from when it was brand new, or some game from Goodwill that still has the $0.73 clearance price tag on it (which is usually on top of about four others, going back to $30 or more!)
One thing I have done since the NES days, though, is tape my original sales reciept in the back of the manual. It's always fun to look back and see something like this, from my actual SNES Street Fighter II Turbo manual:
KAY-BEE TOY STORES
Northgate Mall
Cincinnati, OH
08/13/93
8:11 PM
STREETFIGHTER TR
Sutotal: $74.99
5.5% tax: $4.13
Total: $79.12
Yep, I dropped 79 bucks that evening. And that's in 1993 dollars. I was young and probably saved for months to buy that game!

Straying off topic a little bit but oh well...
When I bought Super Mario World (Jap) for my boyfriend it came with what I think might be a Japanese rental sticker on the side of the cartridge. Very discreet looking, the sticker it's self is clear with writing, but since it's in Japanese it looks cool and can stay. :P

I leave the original price tags on them, my PS2 for 1100 guilders (€ 500,-) looks cool 8-)
Price tags on classic games that gameshops sell now i remove, i remove price tags on DVD case games also, but that is beceause they use ugly stickers around here.

I usually take em off unless i know it will damage the box. I like having my boxes nice and clean as much as possible....so I try to clean em best. THough I have ruined a few boxes this way. :o

I leave original tags on, but I remove the tag if I bought the game used. I always put the receipt in the game if it's a game that get's opened. It's fun to look back every so often.

Damn...99 POUNDS for Sunset Riders? Even if that was a while ago when exchange rates were different...
I always leave price stickers on stuff. I often even leave Goodwill stickers on stuff so I have a good idea how much I made or lost on it :P
I've got a sticker on the Mac I bought at Goodwill a while ago; I'm not really sure why I don't take it off but it's still there. $8.99 for the base unit but as the rest of the stuff (Keyboard, even!) was seperate I ended up paying over $21. Oh well. Good machine, just need to spend another $20 to get a good motherboard for it.
Overall, though...price stickers are cool, so are store stickers on shrinkwrap. I like to keep that stuff; too bad it's messy.

I think that kind of stuff is fun to find. Man videogames really don't hold
their value very well do they.

Ah! the good old days of $80+ SNES games. Didn't Secret of Mana reach $99 at the time ? It could be another game too.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as Cmosfm. I hate having stickers on my boxes, but I hate having huge tears on the side of them even more.

While I always remove stickers from cases and carts, I usually leave them on boxes. I'm just too paranoid that I'll ruin the box (and I've already ruined enough carts that had stickers over the back paper labels >_< ).

I usually leave the stickers on, even if they are used. I even keep most of my receipts. It's kind of neat knowing how I bought Space Channel 5 used at Software Etc. for $4. Yes, that's one of them. I'm such a nerd. :)

I only keep price tags on if they are the original retail tags (ie: not Value Village or a discount store) and if they are unusual in some way. Two examples are the $199 price tag on my 42 in 1 NES pirate, and the $99 on my Super Mario 3 box; yes that's right, my Mom was forced to fork out over $100 (with tax) to satisfy her Nintendo-brainwashed son in 1990! But of course, the fact that it's one of the greatest games of all time does soften the blow...

They stay if it's on vintage items (http://members.cox.net/j_riezinger/images/games/pricetags.jpg), they come off if it's on newer CD/DVD cased games. Typically I leave them on hardware. That's where I see most anyway. Most software came shrinkwrapped so once it's opened alot of times the price tags are lost. Newer games that have tags on the case are typically used games from Gamestop, EB, Game Crazy or whereever, so it's trashy looking I take off. The old games I find with them usually stay on.
Also an odd thing I've seen from time to time, people saving the seal on PSX games, that's wrapped over the top edge of jewel cases, I've found at least a half dozen or so titles where previous owners carefully removed top seal without tearing, and then reapplied to the back of the case!

was that really the retail price? I now know why I had a videogame collection
of 3 games growing up.

MG Ward went out of business at the end of 2000, closing 250 stores. It's been a while. I remember our old MG Ward TV pretty well. If the old TVs didn't suck so bad I'd like to get one someday from a wierd brand for use with a classic console, that'd have a neat look to it.

Personally while I don't own one I think it would be cool too own a 3DO with the $700 price tag on it.
I have one that started at $700 marked down to $36, with about 6 tags covering the original price :D
Other than that, every game I have has the pirce tag removed. I just don't like them on my games...
On PSX games, I TRY to keep the top-seal thing with the game's name on it (I'll pull it off and stick it on the back), but I always seem to rip it...
I allways keep my recipts with the game soI know how much I ought it for and were I bought it from. Oh and for stickerse on the box if they are not original I remove it with a product called un-du beststuff on earth for that. Only have one inciden were a game was damaged from it. There was a sticker on Michael Jacksons moonwalker so I used the un du but now michael has what looks like a pimple on his face. :(

I always leave the top seal as it is on the case. It's easy to get disc and manual out with those PSX cases but with the new DVD cases it gets a bit more difficult.
Heck, if there's a way to get the contents out without breaking a seal, I'll do it, even if it would takes hours.
I once opened Silpheed on PS2 by first undoing the wrapping from the top and taking the case out and then pry out the game from the case. Then I played it and "re-sealed" it. Just to see if it could be done... LOL :embarrassed: LOL

Yes, $99 dollars was the initial price of SMB3 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada in early 1990. Of course, I just HAD to have it as soon as it was released.

Yeah that's even cooler. It would also be cool to find a 32X that went form $150- $19.99
