Hello, I was just at my local Hastings and I was going through the PS1 stuff. When I found a non GH FF:Chronicles for $10 The problem is it's missing the manuals and the discs have those stupid "Hastings Rental" stickers on them...

Now for the question... Do you think I should buy it? Most of the time I'm really serious about collecting and the condition of my stuff, but I was thinking of maybe making an exception since I've really wanted to play CT ever since I first played it in the SNES days. The only thing I'm afraid of is if my PS1 will read the discs/skip all the time(since it was one of the first models)

So I can't decide what to do, I don't want the GH version or the expensive SNES version, I just want to play the game. Should I go for it(it's only $10 afterall), or wait and buy it some other time in better condition(and of course for more money)?

Thanks for your help everyone. :)

I'd wait. Because of the GH re-releases the non-GH games are slowly going down in price. They'll always be more than the $20 re-releases but I doubt you'll see them go for $60 used anymore.

Trust me, you do NOT want the PS1 version. THere is some really annoying load time between EVERY SINGLE battle.

Yeah, I have to agree. Even though I think CT is the single greatest game ever, and the PS1 version has some awesome anime scenes, the load times between battles and even opening the menu are frickin' crazy. I managed to play thru it once, but from now on, I'll stick with my good ol' snes version.

Geez people, they aren't THAT bad if you use the PS2's faster disc reading option...

If you just wanted to play the game, you might as well get a factory sealed Greatest Hits one for $20 or whatever they go for where you live. If you wanted to play the games right, you'd need the SNES cartridges. I've got a mint non-Greatest Hits PS1 FF Chronicles and I'd much, much rather have loose SNES carts of FFII and Chrono Trigger.

Fortunately, I have a near-complete FFII already.

The load time is not THAT bad, and I always liked FF4 as the better game anyway. :)

On the PS2 main menu (without a CD in it) you can go into the menu and select fast disc load options. Does'nt work very well for most games, but I have'nt tried this with Chronicles....

I have the GH version got it new it was worth every penny IMOA
and the load times on Chono Trigger dont bother me there actually very short but I have a newer PSone and my friend has an old PSX dual shock version it seems to take a LOT longer to load on his but that could just be his old PSX

Thanks for the help everyone, I decided to get it some other time. Not just for the load times, but I was reading some reviews and people say the PSX version lags in some spots and that it's just a sloppy port.

Also as far as the load times being bad on a PS1 Dual Shock model, they would be a nightmare on my Launch PS1(as they seem to have longer load times then the newer PS1 or PSone systems)
