I just got a famicom disk system awhile ago, but it's not working. I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me troubleshoot it, or if anyone knew of a site that would help. If you need mroe details about the problem, just email me at skate_krazee@hotmail.com, or reply to this thread.
thanks.

It might help if you explained why you think your FDS isn't working right. Does it show an error message on the screen? Does it make a banshee-like noise? Does it just sit there with no picture on TV?

IIRC error code of 51 and 52 indicates wrong motor speed. Other than that, a broken belt is almost always the cause of FDS problem, and replacement belt must be of the exact same size.

Ok, I'll explain in a bit more detail.
-I hook up the FDS with the TV, and change the TV to channel 2, as well as the switch on the back of the FDS.
-I turn the TV on and then the Famicom. The static on the TV changes shape noticably, but a picture isn't readable.
-I change the channel on the TV to 4, 5, or 6 and i see a bit of shape coming to the picture, but it is still very staticy. I can make up some shaped, but it's still hard to read. At this point, the sound works fine and is recognizable.

What I need to know is, am I doing something wrong maybe, or do you need a Japanese TV to be able to play FDC?

What I think is weird is that the signal from the FDC is stronger on channels 4-6 than on the set channel (2). This is what brought me to think that I might need a Japanese TV.

Crazy Impmon is right...belts almostalways die onthese things...anyone knoe where to buyreplacements?

As for the TV trouble, Are you using a Famicom system or a modifed NES? Many times, you have to cycle through every channel onthe TV to find the right one. Japan uses NTSC, but it's slightly wackier than N America NTSC.

That's right, even though Japan also uses NTSC, the channel frequency aren't the same. If your Famicom doesn't have AV output, you'll have to play around with the UHF dial (UHF is 14 to 69 on current model, up to 83 on older TVs)

If you still can't get a clear picture and your TV only goes to 69, you may have to consider finding a Famicom clone with AV output (AV uses same frequency and are compatible with USA TV) or modding your Famicom system for AV output. Sorry I can't help you there as I have never looked around on this subject, it's usually easier to find a clone with AV support.
