View Full Version : What games are you still trying to find?

I'm talking about games that you hear everyone say is great, but can't find one anywhere. Aside from eBay excluded.

I am looking for a few that seem to elude me, and I just know that as soon as I buy one on eBay for too much, they will show up everywhere cheaper. It will happen, you know it does. ;)

First is Cubivore for the Cube. Everyone says it's so unique. So cool. So must have. And some have spotted dozens at stores once in a while. But never near me. I know I can get one on eBay for $30 BIN, but I have a nagging feeling as soon as I do, it will show up at GameStop, EB, Kmart, Target by the drumfulls. (It happened with Animal Crossing. I watched it before my eyes.)

Second, IQ for PSX. I've played the Demo, and love it. The only copy I've seen in the while is at GameStop.. Disc ONLY.. for $40! Even the manager was surprised at the price. Guess I know where I should stop looking. ;)

DOOM for 3DO and GBA as well as DOOM II for GBA. The only three I need to finish my Doom console collection, and two of the games that would make my GBA SP worth the $80 I spent on it. I've seen DOOM II in EB for $35 cart only. *pshhtt* Yeah, right.

Vib Ribbon for PSX. If it was released in the US, I must find it. I have wanted to try this. But damn it if it'll never show up in my collection. Without spending a pretty penny on eBay.

These are games I will seek out 'til my dying days. Not to collect, but to play. Games I have a craving to play, but never get a taste of.

What games have you wanted for so long, but have yet to come across? Or have come across, but really bad condition or way too high priced for what it is.

No U.S. release, it's just one of the most popular imports. shop.himeya.com might still have it for $30.

I just found Catrap for the Game Boy after looking for about 5 years. Now I can't find Shanghai anywhere. Been looking for Picross 2 on Ebay as well.

I can't find Power Stone at any local stores, which is weird.

That's easy - Hyperspeed! It's a PC game, the sequel to Lightspeed, a Microprose space sim that I quite enjoyed. Lightspeed is good but way too short. Hyperspeed is supposed to be basically the same but bigger, so I'd love to try it.

Also, Subterranea for the 2600. I've wanted to check that one out since reading a glowing review of it in Retrogaming Times years ago, but no luck finding it. No surprise though, it's pretty rare.

And Zanac for the NES. I used to find carts all the time, but they were always loose and in bad condition, and I was hoping for a complete version. I bought a box and manual for it cheaply a little while ago, so I'd be happy to find a loose cart now, but of course I can't. I could get one off of eBay, but I'm kind of itching to "find" this one...

Well I cant find my copy of Bart vs. the Space Mutants for NES, so I'm looking for that. Also I want Ice Climber. I'm not really at a point yet with my collection where there are so few games left that I'm havcing trouble finding stuff.

I've been trying to find a good deal on Dracula X (SNES), but no such luck so far. I'm glad that I at least finally got Castlevania Chronicles at a reasonable price, so that's one step closer to having a complete US CV collection.

Namco Museum 5. I want it for Valkyrie no Densetsu, which was the inspiration for the Glimmer Spire in Tales of Eternia/Destiny 2. One time Gamestop had a box for it out, but it turns out that the game they had was Namco Museum 3

I've been searching for Pitfall II and HERO for the 2600 for years! I better find them in the wild someday, dammit!

Oh, that reminds me, I hate how the best Namco Museum games are the most expensive. >( I want the ones with Dragon Spirit and Dragon Saber (the latter being on the Japan-only Encore, which isn't TOO terrible in price). I forget the number of the Dragon Spirit one, but it's one of the pricey ones. :(

Heh, I just saw a pitfall ii at goodwill the other day.

But me I've been looking for the following complete NES games:

Wrecking Crew
Balloon Fight
Kid Icarus

and an atari 7800. Might just ebay it cause a store way out in the city has about 10 boxed mint complete 7800 games.

I'll second Subterranea. I'm still trying to track down a copy of that. Hero is quite hard to find, surprising considering it's such a great game. I bought that one off ebay, still trying to find a CIB copy thou, one of about four Activision boxes I still need. :o

G Darius, Devil Dice, & Poy Poy for PSX, I've found DD once on the shelf in a game shop for $7.99 but they couldn't find the disc, and G Darius I've seen in a pawn shop, but it was missing the back insert so I passed.

Mars Matrix & Bangai-O both for the DC, I've seen these overpriced before, still looking for them in the $5 range.

And a Vectrex! One of the few systems I've never seen in the wild, :( One day, maybe, I can dream! :)

Ive been lookin for a complete Devil Dice FOREVER. Add to that list Brigadine, and Eggs Of Steel. I passed on a PoyPoy a long time ago, to watch it there for months, only to finally go back to get it, and gone. An ebay seller messed up an auction i bought, and this is the fallback should he not be able to come through. Works for me ;)

Mars Matrix & Bangai-O both for the DC, I've seen these overpriced before, still looking for them in the $5 range. Good luck finding them for 5. Bangai-O had a real short print run, and the only copy of both of these ive seen in recent times, are now in my collection.

I've been trying hard to find this Japanese PSX/Saturn game called "Nekketsu Oyako". Its a Final Fight/Streets Of Rage clone for the 32-bit systems.

I am pretty lost as to where to look for it...its not even on Ebay :(

05-22-2004, 12:19 AM
Pawn shops! :D That's where I like to shop for them at, $5 is the going rate for most PSX & DC games. That's about all I want to fork out, have too many unplayed games as it is. No sense in paying top dollar only to find them a week later next to nothing after a splurge on ebay.

I'm looking for a complete Gunstar Heroes without having to spend an entire paycheck. I've been looking for a Dr. Mario too, and I can't find one in the wild anymore. They used to be everywhere. (poachers...)

I used to want Tactics Ogre pretty bad, and I ended up driving to a gamestop halfway across the state to pick it up in poor condition (but complete) for $30. Then the next day I saw the pawn shop up the street had a minty one for $25. So I have 2 now.

mine is an uberrare ;) DarXide (32X), man, everyone's telling me how good it is and that it pushes the 32X, i'm going for a complete 32X collection but DAMN is this one hard to find.... (there was a lose one a few month ago on ebay though, went for about 300)

It's Intelligent Qube not IQ... or well I guess it is IQ if you abbreviate it... did you intend to?

Anyway yeah that's one of the games I definately want to, I loved the demo, too bad it's suppose to be rare now. :/

As for non rares that ellude me? I had trouble finding Fatal Frame for XboX for awhile, but I finally managed to find a "new" display copy at EB. Ugh... I hate display copies. :P

I'm still looking for Guardian's Crusade (although in negotiations for it from a member here) and King's Field. Found it at Gamestop but when I took it up to the counter the game was gone, but the gave me the box and manual for free. (non-longbox)

Stack Up, NES. Supposedly a somewhat common game... I've looked for NES games in various cities, heck... various states, and I have never seen a copy of this game. There are a handful of rares I've never seen, but the fact that I have never seen Stack Up frustrates me to no end.

Also, I constantly hear that the Tengen Tetris isn't as rare as people make it out to be... I have never seen a copy of it in the wild, not for any price. I'd give my eternal soul for that cart.

PAL X-COM: Enemy Unknown for PlayStation. I've been searching this one for years but no luck. Why on earth did I sell this one?

Also PAL Light Crusader seems to evade me.

From the recent I must say Zelda and Viewtiful are hiding from me.

Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow and Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance. I could get them both on Ebay, but I really don't wanna get a pirated copy.

Anyway, I'll eventually find them at Microplay (or EB or wherever), hopefully at a half-decent price.

I'm also looking for Xenogears, even if it's in its GH format (apparently, no one in Montreal has carried the GH version). I'll probably end up getting it on ebay.

At the top of my list: Spanky's Quest for SNES (R5). I have never seen it in the wild. It's a great game, so I would really like to. Screw the competition carts, this is the SNES cart I want the most! LOL

(Although I wouldn't pass up a comp cart if I ever found one.)

As for somewhat common stuff, I've never seen Rock 'N Roll Racing for SNES in the wild, and I haven't seen a copy of Virtual Bart, also for SNES, in years. Hopefully it won't take too long to find a copy of Championship Pro-AM for the Genesis.

I always seem to find Tetris Attack and Kirby Super Star for SNES priced at a little more than I'd like to pay for them (haven't seen either game under $14.99).

Too lazy to think non-SNES stuff right now... although I did mention a Genesis game. Ok, a cheap Harvest Moon 64 cart would be nice.

There are multiple Rock and Roll racing carts at the EB in McMurray PA as of a week ago. I forget the price. If you are looking for it, PM me and I'll look into. Last week there were like 6 or more of them. We're saturated for some reason.

There used to be a copy at the store i worked at...went for $18-19 cart only.

Also, I constantly hear that the Tengen Tetris isn't as rare as people make it out to be... I have never seen a copy of it in the wild, not for any price. I'd give my eternal soul for that cart.

Seen a copy once. It was a tad higher than i would buy/could afford at the time. I was much happier when the Neo Geo came in...such a shame i never got to play the thing. I know i'll never see one of those again in my life. :(

Seeing this thread made me think of some games I've tried to get off and on. I never did get Devil Dice but I found some on sale at Amazon.com via their Marketplace sellers. The cheapest there is just under $16 so I figured what the heck and ordered one of those described as being in excellent condition. I had to laugh, though, as one new copy is priced at $87.56...the reason I laughed? The seller's ID is "cheap-4-u" LOL

At Ebay, I have a $5 bid on Bangai-O but doubt I'll win that. Then again, maybe Bangai-O hunters are sleeping? -_-

There's one other game I've wanted for awhile that is ending within an hour for now and I have (so far) the only bid on that. I'd mention what it is but it's been mentioned in this thread and I'd rather not alert anyone to it's availability until it's mine (or until the auction is over anyway) :D

A few hours later...

Well, I wound up winning that game...it was Poy Poy for the Playstation. Counting shipping I'm paying just under $20 for it...complete and in excellent condition. Two other guys tried to outbid me towards the end (and did outbid me temporarily) but these were the kind of guys who try to just bid a dollar at a time...

Mmmm....as of last week I'm starting to re-amass the Dreamcast collection that I stupidly got rid of. I just got my beloved Shenmue this afternoon, so that's a load off of my mind. It's the one game that I'd own the system for.

PS2, looking for a new copy of Klonoa Lunatea's Veil.

N64, looking for a complete copy of Indiana Jones in the wild, as well as anything else that I don't have.

Genny, the usual stuff. Same with NES.

I'm not really obsessed with finding anything, I take pleasure in actively searching. That's half of the fun.

Recca Summer Carnival 1992 Tournament, Over Horizon and Battle Formula for the NES. I'm starting to wonder if these are even real.
For the Genesis Bio-Ship Paladin.
For the PS1 Stahlfeder.
I enjoy searching for games. I've heard that wanting is usually more pleasurable than having. I think it's true, dumb as that sounds.

Current most wanted: Home Alone (SMS) - the other 6 games Euro SMS I still need appear on eBay semi-regularly and it's just a case of waiting for a decently-priced one, but Home Alone is proving extremely elusive. I've only seen 2 or 3 in about the last 6 months - one was part of a huge German-only bundle, and another sold for about £40 but the seller never followed through with it.
The HK-only Mah-Jong (SMS) would be pretty sweet aswell.

I've been wanting an original copy of Flicky (MD) for ages aswell, but don't want to pay too much since I've already got it on the Classic Collection comp.

edit: heh - quick update on this one: I've now got both SMS Home Alone & MD Flicky :D

Would you believe, however, that despite having over 300 SMS/Mark III games, I still haven't got Phantasy Star!! I've just missed out on a couple of cheap ones (one at £5.50 on eBay and one from a games store for £5.99) and am reluctant to pay the usual eBay prices. I'm going to have to break down and get it soon though, since there's only 2 other SMS games I haven't got yet (and one of those is in the post to me!).

I still want a reasonably priced Dracula X for SNES. :( It's pretty much the only Castlevania game I still want.

Other than that, there are still a few expensive PSX RPGs that I'd like to get without having to pay eBay prices (Rhapsody, Persona 2, etc.), and I keep dreaming that someday I'll be able to add Dragon Warrior 2-4 to my collection without selling a kidney.

But the search never ends, so....

For the SNES, it would be Ninja Gaiden Trilogy, which I have yet to find in the wild to this day. Final Fantasy II would be nice too.

As for Genesis games, I haven't seen a copy of TMNT Hyperstone Heist in months for some reason. I've passed it up once or twice before, but now that I actually want a copy I can't find it anywhere. I haven't been able to find the Toe Jam & Earl games anywhere in the wild either.

Finally, I'd like to get Cubivore one of these days too. I did come across a copy recently, but it was priced at $40 and didn't look that great.
