View Full Version : Silly Dreamcast Problem

I feel silly even asking this, but I'm not 100% sure. When I turn off my Dreamcast it makes a long beeping noise and then my VMU turns on while it's still in the controller and goes to the screen to set the date. I'm thinking it means my VMU battery is almost dead, but all my saves are still on the VMU. So is it the VMU? Or is it the Dreamcast itself?

Yep, dead VMU battery.

Also, the Vmu battery has nothing at all to do with save data. It is merely used for playing VMU games. So, as long as you can stand the beeping, there is no real need to change the battery.

Thanks for the help. Kind of a raw deal since I bought the VMU new less than a month ago, but I guess if it was made in 1999 or 2000 it's not all that surprising.

VMU batteries seem to die so fast that it's kind of ridiculous. I had a brand new one with that little battery contact insert thing still in the back of the VMU and the batteries died in a little over a couple months.
A Dreamcast without the VMU Beep at Startup would be like... Not a Dreamcast.

The batteries on Sega systems don't seem to last so long.
I got so annoyed to the constant beeping that I removed the wires from the speaker. Now I don't have wake up everybody when I want to play at night. :)

I've heard that if you leave a VMU in the controller, even while the system is off, it gradually drains the battery... so you might want to try to make sure to take the VMU out when you stop playing. Those batteries get expensive after a while.
