I got a great response from the last one (Samurai Shodown) that I went ahead with another. This time it's the classic Geo shooter Viewpoint. Though not quite as in depth (it only came out on 3 consoles), I tried covering anything.

Also, the review page has been updated alot lately and if you haven't been there in a while, now is a great time to look! Almost every system section has something new. Dire 51 has been cranking oou some import reviews and Jorpho wrote a super review of Eggerland Mystery on the NES. ( http://www.digitpress.com/reviews/eggerland.htm )
Check 'em out!

Note: kudos to Joe for getting this up so quick!

Almost forgot: If you would like to contribute to a cross system comparison, I'm looking for a copy of Raiden for the Atari Lynx. I'm not looking to buy it, just borrow it for the sake of a comparison. I'll of course pay all shipping costs. PM if your willing.

In the meantime, be on the lookout for a Final Fight comparison within the next month or so.

Of course, all 4 versions feature the same isometric view of the original.
There we go, fixed. (Being picky. Nope, didn't add any of the ones you mentioned, either. Guess what the other system is? - :D it's my favorite.)

Mostly a very nice review; could've lived without the "astounds with asinine detail" comment though!

Another minor detail:

The "definitive" version on the Neo has some minor hiccups, mostly when the screen is crowded with enemy ships. The small bullets have no effect on the powerful hardware which means misery for players.
I had to read that one through a couple times to get the meaning of the second sentence. Really a minor issue though.

Actually...at the end:

The frame rate issues just add too much to the difficulty and the slowdown may actually make the experience a bit easier
Whenever you mention frame rate my reading speed slows down to a crawl LOL I would suppose the game without the aforementioned hiccups would be hardest, so the parts I've italicized don't really make sense together. Still, a minor issue all things considered!

Thanks for the great comparison. I'll have to check out this port you speak of.

???? Do tell!

Sorry, asinine is one of my favorite words for some reason. :P Really doesn't work there though now that I read it.... :o

Agreed. Should be some extra words like "which means no slowdown making the game the most legitametly (sp?) challenging of the bunch."

All input will be put forth into future "cross-system comparisions." THANKS!

Just a thought - would it be possible to edit current reviews? Seems to me that we should have the best, most complete information up (not that this was a bad review)! They should be editable, somehow or other.

@ Azael: I looked around a bit and didn't find any such version. It's funny though - I checked GameTZ on a whim (thinking "there's no such version") and didn't see it. Oops, GameTZ doesn't search collections automatically...but Google did for me! (http://gametz.com/usertab/Mattman/tab/AllAtOnce.html)

What's more, here's the box, courtesy of The (mysterious) Tea Monger:

So I should be corrected in turn - make that five versions. Of course that's picky because this and the x68000 release (which I was thinking of) are both Japanese and therefore obscure over here.

Hmm, maybe I would like to get a FM Towns computer (not really a Marty, rather a fullblown computer) sometime. Looks like there are a fair number of good games on it - at least four Neo Geo ports, including Viewpoint, not bad.

I normally won't do imports or the really obscure stuff. Mostly just the more mainstream consoles.

If anyone is willing to write about the above stated versions, feel free to drop me a line. I'll also re-edit the review not only to include the new info that is written, but make the recommended changes as well.
