Super Mario RPG PAL ULTRA-RARE!?!?

I have just found an "ultra-rare" PAL copy of Mario RPG for the Super Nintendo on eBay.co.uk :eek 2: Am now gonna have to rush and put a bid on it!! It's so rare that this must be the only copy in the world!! @_@

Or maybe the guy's clueless - I don't want to call him a rip-off merchant just in case!

umm actually this game is pretty rare here in the states. I don't know about PAL, but in US there not easy to find.

The game was only ever released in the States and Japan. What format do the Japanese use?? The cart would look the same...The blurb he gives is a bit dodgy too:

Just remembered - the Japanese use NTSC as well. So it can't even be a Super Famicom thang!

I'd say you're right.

The seller is mostly correct the game is VERY hard to get to work on a PAL SNES. (There was a recent thread on it, I believe they said it would work with a couple of late model import devices) So it looks like the person took the guts of the game and put it into a PAL cart and modifed it so that it would work just fine on a PAL machine. No hassle and fuss -- and I would assume he compensated for the frame rate difference as well. At least I hope so.

How much is it worth? Well, the game is quite popular in the States and still goes for a good price despite it being a common game. Then figure a conversion charge so that you can play it on a PAL SNES. I would guess it's worth about $50-70 US.

Perhaps the recent PAL conversions of Secret of Mana 2 and Bahamut Lagoon (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=34208) have opened the floodgates for the SNES cart-hackers...

edit: just seen that the same seller sold a PAL Chrono Triger conversion aswell ;)

"Mario Kart R" is the original name of Mario Kart 64.

The instructions on how to make your own SNES cart are so detailed that pretty much anyone who is willing to invest the time and has slight knowledge of EPROMs and soldering can now make their own.

And as long as the price on these carts stays above $100, there will be a growing number of people willing to try.

If you saw the recent thread where d4s was describing the process, he said that parts & time costs came to around $75 per cart.

Yeah, I guess that's okay. $25 seems kind of high for the time and parts of doing the job, but I guess some people consider it worth.
