Be warned that someone's having a little too much hack-happy fun at the moment...

Just checked my Yahoo e-mail account and found, in my "Bulk" folder, the following two messages from eBay (using the usual "aw-confirm@ebay.com" address):

Dear [email address],

During our regular update and verification of the accounts, we could not verify your current information. Either your information has changed or it is incomplete.

As a result, your access to bid or buy on eBay has been restricted.

According to our site policy you will have to confirm that you are the real owner of the eBay account by log in and verify your identity or else your account will be suspended without the right to register again with eBay.

Click on the link below in order to login and verify your information:

Thank you

I found this funny for two reasons. One, I'd just logged onto eBay no more than two minutes before I checked my mail, and had no problem making a bid on an item or logging into My eBay. Two, whenever, I get an e-mail from eBay, it always uses my actual name and not my e-mail address at the top of the document. (The fact that it arrived in my Bulk folder as well, and not in my normal In-box, was also interesting.)

My scam suspicions were basically confirmed, then, when this e-mail appeared right next to the first one (again, same "aw-confirm" address):

Ha-fucking-ha. No way in hell. :hmm:

Watch out, boys and girls.

Yeah, that's really on the increase. I just read a article on Yahoo last week that 'Phishing', which is what this pratice is called, has increased by over 100 percent in the last year. Best way to make sure it's for real and portect yourself is NOT click on any links in the e-mail, but go to the website or call them to ask about it. Since they are often based in other countries there's not much anyone can do.

yea i got those 2 emails some time ago...i sent them to spoof@ebay.com

Ebay would NEVER EVER ASK you to input user names or passwords IN AN EMAIL REPLY.........If there is a problem with your account....first go on ebay.com and do it from there...not from the email..

Yeah, I keep getting these damn spoof emails from eBay telling me they are going to suspend my account if I don't pay the £35 selling fees I owe them.
