View Full Version : Considering getting a 2nd Gamecube... is it worth it?

I now have 2 TV screens in my room, 1 normal television and a Commodore 1702 (Although the sound won't work :/). I've been considering getting a second cube so I could have some LAN action going on in my room... and also since cubes are so cheap now (I paid $200 at launch for mine and have been a loyal fan since I got mine). Is there any reason not to get another?

Also, if I was playing Zelda: 4 Swords (JP GCN), would I be able to use the Gameboy player on the second cube to be the GBA screen?

I suppose you could get another one, especially if there's a bundle you could get a good price on that comes with a game you don't have.

As for connecting two GBP's together, from another site's review of the GBP (http://www.gamerslogik.com/review.php?RevID=90):

"The GBP can be used just like any other GBA. On the front there is a link port so that you can link your GBP to other Game Boys. You should, in theory, be able to hook up more than one GBP together if you have a couple of Gamecube, TVs, and GBP. However, the instruction manual says that you should not connect two GBP together; only connect it to other regular Game Boys. I'm not quite sure why they don't want you to hook up two GBP's, but hey, it's your money if you screw it up."

has anyone tried to link two GB players together, and if so, did anything bad happen, considering Nintendo says not to?

I think you should get a secnd gamecube for LAN. I plan on getting another gamecube myself, if not 2 more, when they go on sale again. Whenever that might be.
I have also owned my, well actually about 6 months after launch. Didn't have near enough money for launch. I was also heavily into my DC still.

I wouldn't If I was you. And I am a total Gamecube fanboy. There are only 3 LAN games and KirbyAirRide is a waste of time in my book. They are all racing also. I guess it depends on how big of a MarioKart Double Dash fan you are. :P
I am getting a cube to mod so that will be my 3rd. One i s a japanese LE though. I will be able to LAN up with my modded one but I wouldn't recommend paying $100 for 3 games.

Well, I REALLY enjoy Kirby Air Ride.

If you don't mind me asking, why would you mod a cube if you can just use a Freeloader?

I aheva freeloader. I plan on putting in different (and more powerful) leds and painting it a different color. Just so it looks cool I guess, a nice little convo piece. :-P

Lmao

GCs have such a nice form factor, but even though the grey area to put a controller in helps prevent scuffing up your GC when plugging in a new controller (which I haven't really ever done since I bought it), it looks bad.

I remember being psyched about the orange GC + GBP bundle out in Japan/Europe; the Japanese version's box is much t3h spiff.

Better yet, who's this one replying to? :P

I dunno...I think I'm going to stick to my guns about the Japanese GC/GBP bundles looking nice. (Maybe it was the pinch of l337?)

Should have made a Poll.

I wouldn't mind a second. But I can't just spend $100 anytime I want. So I'll wait until they're really cheap then grab up one of each color after the enxt generation comes along. Until then, I can wait.

One really good reason might be outweighed by the visual feedback of many unnecessary No votes...personally, I'd say get a classic console instead. That's just me though :P

If you love the system, I say go for it!

I have a regular black Saturn and a Grey Japanese one, and I still plan to get another one to customize. So I don't think you can ever have enough of your favorite systems! :)

i dont think getting a second gamecube is worth it, actually most times i dont think my 1 GC is worth it. However like someone else said if you are going to use it then yes it would be worth it.

Yeah... my birthday is coming up thogh and I haven't made any "major" purchases in a while (For a 14-year-old, $100 isn't a very little buy).

I think I'm still going to go through with it, though... thanks for the replies. I Know that there's a GCN bundle with 3 games, all used, at Gamestop for $79.99 which I'm looking into getting. I am in the process of making a deal with someone at CheapAssGamer to get a BB adapter. What kind of cable do I use to connect 2 BB adapters?

If anyone else wants to chime in, feel free to.

You'll want a crossover cable NOT regular Cat5 unless you are putting them through a router (which then you will want Cat5). And MMSMK is a lot of fun! :)

I've been considering importing one from Japan myself. For whatever reason, I'd love to have one of the super cool colored Japanese ones and a load of sweet Imports to sit next to my US Cube with it's games.

Plus there are a lot of imports that I'd like to get my hands on, and I'd rather have a import console to go with my import games.

Just think about how much you'll actually use it before buying. I'd personally wait until they were cheaper, but if you think you'll get enough use out of it to justify the cost, go for it.

If your main interest is LAN, you should go for an Xbox instead. It might not have Mario Kart, but it does have inifinitely more LAN-able titles than the GCN will EVER have.
