I felt the same way as your friend...couldn't get into it at all. I waas all excited when it came out, as it was hailed as one of the first PS2 "RPGs", but relaly you just run in and out of randomly generated dungeons and then rebuild your town that was destroyed. I found it tedious and uninspired myself. Some people liked it but I wasn't one of them. The only games I've played for PS2 that I liked less were Summoner and Ephemeral Phantasia (2nd worst game EVER!).

The graphics and music are great and all, but the game is tedius between your weapon constantly breaking, the enemies being too tough, and the randomly generating dungeons become more of a hassle.

I wouldn't say it's the worst game I've ever played, but it's definitely not a hidden masterpiece or anything either.

The random dungeon thing gets annoying quickly. It comes across like they did it that way just so you wouldn't blow through the game. I'd rather blow through the game. Putting the towns back together isn't bad. Breaks up the dungeon stuff anyway.

I've only played it half-way through and I really don't care if I ever finish it at this point (although I'm sure there will be a day where I buckle down and do so).

I loved it. My first PS2 game, and a great time. Actraiser + Zelda. Great combo. I can't wait for the sequel.
