Friday, May 28, the official merger of G4 and Tech TV takes place. I'm curious to see how it all works out. One thing I find interesting is that all the G4 shows are weekly (in that they get new episodes once a week) while many TechTV shows (XPlay, Screen Savers, etc.) seem to have new episodes every day...or am I mistaken since I really have never watched Tech TV much? It'll be nice if those shows can continue having new episodes that often, especially XPlay. XPlay may not even have new episodes that often...maybe they just have a large backlog? I still have not seen what the schedule will look like...I rarely remember when any G4 show is on anyway. And Friday seems an odd time to have the merger but maybe not...all the fanboys can revel in the one electronics "superchannel" over the weekend... :D

I am VERY HAPPY.
I love my TechTV and have only been able to enjoy G4 via usenet binary downloads and the occasional videotape sent in by our supercool members here.
The mix of the two will be a welcome one in my home!

If only we knew whether or not Starcade was surviving the merge...but hell, as long as they keep the other shows I like, I'm set.
I find it ironic how g4tv.com is a better news show then Pulse tends to be.

Even if it's just a sampling of what was on G4 originally, I'm going to be happy as hell. I only had techTV before. So woohoo!

If you check out the merger FAQ page here...
http://www.g4techtv.com/faq.html
...you'll see Starcade isn't listed but that may not mean it will be gone completely as they may be just mentioning the originals that will survive the merger. We'll have to wait a bit until we see the official schedule...whenever that comes up. Perhaps someone will someday do an updated version of Starcade. Is Geoff Edwards (I think that's the host's name) available? :P
Guys, Starcade is toast on G4. The last episode was aired on there a few weeks back and it was confirmed by Top Starcader (the orig show's producer as he goes by on the G4 Forums), that G4 decided not to take up the option on airing Starcade for a 3rd year. Not sure if it's going to be going anywhere though there was talk there about Starcade making a tour on GSN (formerly Game Show Network)

Portal, Blister, & Starcade are the three G4 shows that were axed ostensibly to provide 'room' for the merger

Ah well. I can't say I'll miss Portal much, though.
I still think they should pick up some of those old video game cartoons. It'd make saturday morning worth getting up for again :P

Speaking of cartoons, that's an awesome avatar you've got there, Uber.

Be intresting what comes out of this. How was the newer Starcade to the orginial (which I barely remember myself)? Anyone got those on tape or know where to dl them?

I don't think there were any newer Starcade episodes... they just ran all the shows from the early 80's.

I don't know how often Xplay has new episodes, but it can't be five times a week. It seems like every time I see it it's a rerun, even when it's on at night (which I think is its "usual" time).
I'll miss Call For Help, but really only because of its host Leo Laporte, who is one of the most likeable people on TV.

On Friday will there be a big thing about it on the channel then?
Rogmeister
05-24-2004, 08:57 PM
Well, Friday is the official day that the two channels become one. I'm not sure exactly what will happen on that channel that day, programming wise, as I've not been able to find a schedule yet for that day.

If you love Starcade you could always go to www.starcade.tv and buy them.
Also if anyone of you out there are curious about the new schedule it seems the only way you are going to find out what is on and when just head on over to www.zap2it.com and go to tv then on to schedule then on to channel I wish I could post a link but the schedule is posted by area. Let us just say after printing it up it shocked even me.

www.g4tv.com has all the shows they plan on airing on their website, under programs. Unscrewed, Invent This, X-Play, Screen Savers, Anime Unleashed, among a few others, are all going to start airing immediately...no word if any other shows will br brought up later on, though. I'll miss call for help, but if they have no staff or anything for new eps until July, then there's really no point to the show (since it's major draw is that you can call up). Maybe it'll be brought back this summer, I hope it does, but ah well. Hi-Score sounds interesting, like a modern day Starcade...have to see how that one works out.

Is Hi-Score going to continue to air? That's one of the British imports G4 has been airing and I kind of figured those would have been squeezed out by all the Tech TV imports. I don't remember much game-playing there...it's more of a quiz show. I do remember they play a game at the end by the final 2 contestants that's "inspired" by Worms...

I've been watching a buttload of TechTV just to get my fill of the old logo and all the shows and people I like (unfortunately, most of the shows they're keeping are my least liked shows :/ ). I've also been checking out the G4 shows. So far I've come to the conclusion that the network is almost nothing but meathead guidos. o_O Some of the shows are pretty entertaining, even watching Tommy Tallarico is not so bad, despite the little cocky prick that he is. Arena seems totally retarded (nothing but fucking Socom 2 and Call to Duty every episode, and then somebody usually trashes the first game because "it's for 10 year old kids"; I guess they're too "h4rdc0rez" for anything but FPS games). I don't even understand the concept of Sweat (granted, I could never stomach watching more than the first few minutes of each episode), and Players is pretty dumb (oh boy! Let's watch a bunch of ditzy female TV stars attempt to play a game!). When I was watching Cheat!, they were doing an episode about Ratchet and Clank 2, and the developers SCARED THE SHIT OUT OF ME. I can't comprehend how human beings can be so ugly, and they had the stupidity to include their own faces in the game as the "ultra-bonus", haha. Only in America. That's why I like my games made by little, old, cute-in-a-funny-looking-kind-of-way men. I can't have respect for the work of some freakin' looking, dumb, American kid. o_O

Well, I see what happened to Game Sauce and Gamer TV now... they're both on G4. There goes my only reason to watch Game Show Network...

I've got G4Tech on now, popped on in the middle of one the host of Judgement Day bashing the new Harvest Moon for GC. Intresting so far.

After seeing him in action, I can honestly say that Tommy Tallarico is the king of all douchebags. Did anyone see the special E3 edition of Judgment Day? I just LOOOOVED how Tommy complained that all Nintendo had to offer was the "same old, same old", shortly after gushing at all the recycled first-person shooters and Tom Clancy-endorsed garbage at the XBox booth. Oh, and the comment about "Toilet Paper Mario" very nearly left me frothing at the mouth and jumping on the television screen like some kind of crazed attack dog.
Tallarico really is the embodiment of the Sony fanboy... an immature simp who turns his nose up at anything without boobs, violence, and (clumsy, awkward, confusing) 3D gameplay. He's almost as painful to watch as his twangy Genesis soundtracks were to listen to ten years ago.

An almost humorous postscript to this is the fact that Tommy helped with the sound effects of...yep...a GameCube title and one of the big ones, Metroid Prime.

Yeah, but what they DON'T tell you is that Tommy was dismissed from that project. More than likely he was fired for being, well, Tommy.

Wow, is this true? I'd never heard that. And Vic (the other guy) went on with the compliments about the sound when they reviewed that game, too.
I've often thought Tommy was kind of funny but his obvious hatred of Nintendo (or any games with any amount of cuteness whatsoever) is indeed getting old...

Doesn't surprise me. I saw that edition and felt sick at all the Nintendo bashing of GC and the DS. First thing I turned on when I found Judgement Day on G4Tech yesterday was Tommy bashing how boring harvest Moon was, how crappy the MIDI music was and the fact it took him a hour to figure out how to exit your house in the game! I've been finding myself watching G4Tech alot the past few days too.

I was quite excited when I first started getting G4 but I soon found out that I was only watching 3 or 4 shows regularly. Despite Tommy's views, I still enjoy Judgment Day and also like G4tv.com a lot and sometimes find Filter amusing. I hope to start watching XPlay more often now, too. I find some of the programming lame...others I haven't been able to get into for one reason or another.

I like X-Play, G4tv.com, Icons, and now and then I'll check out Screen Savers and Arena.
